As a boy I was always small for my age. I was also five years younger than one of my brothers and seven years younger than the other. As a result, I often felt left out when their friends came over to play. I was either too small or too young for whatever they were doing and they didn't want me to listen to their conversations either. More often I found myself outside playing alone and feeling forgotten.

I remember one spring afternoon feeling especially lonely as I sat in the yard behind our house. I heard my brothers laughing from inside the house and felt tears coming down my cheeks. At that moment I saw a large, brown dog walking over to me. His face was panting happily and his tail was wagging as well. Even though he didn't know me, he licked my feet and sat beside me on the spring grass.

It must have been for at least an hour that I petted and talked to this four-legged angel. He let me pour out all my troubles and shared my deepest thoughts before he kissed my cheek goodbye. I went back, knowing that no matter what life may hold I was loved. Now over 40 years later I still remember that furry angel with a smile. I believe that God sent him in that moment of sadness to remind me just how much he loved me.

In truth, nothing brings us greater joy than knowing we are loved. Knowing we are loved gives us the strength to love others as well. Knowing we are loved helps us to be the people God meant for us to be. Knowing we are loved aids us in making Earth more like Heaven. Embrace that love, take joy in it, and then go out and share your own love with the world.

Nowadays, with online stores and e-books becoming more popular, many find it hard to remember the last time they sat down in a bookstore and enjoyed a peaceful moment.

However, this does not mean that bookstores are losing their appeal. For example, to bring in more readers, Xinhua Bookstore opened a beautiful Fresh Air Bookstore in Baoding, Hebei province earlier this year to help people escape from city life and find somewhere to settle down for a while.

This is just one of the new ways in which people are trying to bring back the world of books in the digital(数码的) age. According to Qian Xiaohua, the experience of reading real books may be a good way to bring readers back.

"There is no alternative(替代物) to replace the touch of different kinds of paper and the smell of print," Qian said. "For readers, visiting a bookstore is an experience of letting themselves slow down and think. Most readers in a bookstore come not only for the books, but also for the atmosphere and social setting. That's why many bookstore are creatively designed or decorated; they want people to communicate with and enrich their inner world."

When readers shop online, they're often looking for one specific(特定的) thing. But in a bookstore, they may find a novel that never would have showed up in their search, and that they never would have otherwise(否则) read.

"Looking around a store allows us to step out of our comfort zone, sometimes without us even knowing, because so many more choices are given to us in a short walk around the store than on an online search page," the Elite Daily website reported.

So why not go out and find a story that speaks to you? Pick it up, look through its pages and understand that when you walk out with a book, you're starting a new adventure.

Here's something to think about the next time you ask your teacher for help: trying hard to do schoolwork on your own can help you learn. According to a recent study, the more you try while you are learning new information, the better you can remember it later.

This theory might surprise you. When teachers are presenting(呈现) new information, they often give students lots of help. But a new study shows this may not be the best way to support learning. "Don't be too quick to get help when learning something new," education expert Manu Kapur said. "Try to work on it yourself even if it means trying different ways."

Kapur came up with the idea that trying hard can lead to better learning. Then he tested it out on students in Singapore. He divided students into two groups, students were asked to solve the same problems by helping one another, instead of getting help from the teacher.

With the teacher's help, students in the first group were able to find the correct answers. Students in the second group did not solve the problems correctly. But they did come up with a lot of good idea.

The students were then tested on what they had learned. The group without any help from a teacher scored much higher than the group who had help. Kapur said working to find the answers helped students understand the process(过程), not just the solution.

Kapur's advice for kids is to put a lot of effort into learning something new rather than going to your teacher for help. "Simply doing a little work or nothing at all won't work," says Kapur. "Try to solve a problem in as many ways as possible."

You listen to that one song, and you just can't stop dancing to the beat. You can't help but feel happy right away. Neuroscientist(神经系统科学家) Jacob Jolij, from the Netherlands, found the musical formula(配方) that will put any listener in a good mood.

A survey conducted in the UK has found out what British people's favorite feel-good songs are. Jolij used those songs and went on a search to find out what it is about a feel-good song that makes us feel so good.

"A 'feel-good song' formula is difficult to describe," said Jolij. "Music appreciation is very personal and depends on the listener's choice."

Jolij found that people's favorite feel-good songs are faster,with average tempo(平均拍子) of 140 to 150 beats per minute. Usually, a pop song has only about 118 beats per minute.

Most feel-good songs are in the major key instead of the minor key.

Finally, the lyrics of the song are usually positive.

The magical formula is simple. If a song has these three qualities, it's certain to put a smile on your face right away.
