China has made big progress in running competitions! The young1Su Bingtian made history on Sunday by becoming the2Asian athlete to appear in the men's 100m final at the world athletics championships.

    As the3man in China, Su was born in a4family in Guangdong in 1989. His parents were both farmers and had a lot of work to do on the farm every day. So Su often helped them with housework at home. Though his study was not very good, he was5at running than many other boys in his class. He6this kind of sport very much, so he practised running as often as possible. In 2004, Su started to take part in different competitions and has won many prizes since then. And this year, he managed to finish 100 metres in 9.99 7. That was the best result in Asia. His dream8! When he heard the news, he could not believe9ears.

    Though Su is famous now, he never behaves arrogantly. Instead, he still works hard10he wants to have a better chance of winning! I believe there is a lesson there.

What sport do you often do in your free time? I do lots of sports such as basketball, running, swimming and so on. I (尤其) love playing basketball. I am on the school team. This year we are going to play (和…比赛) a team from another school. We dare(敢) to say we will (打败) them because we are (训练) more carefully and much (努力地). Last year we (输) to them in the final match. Our (教练) who has a round face is friendly and always encourages us never give up. He also repeats(重复) some difficult skills so that we can do better next time. We spend (大量) of time practising this year.

  I often watch basketball matches on TV to learn how to play better. Last night, there was a basketball match between the German team and the Chinese team. At last, the Chinese team won the match. All the Chinese fans shouted (大声地) with pleasure. We were proud to see the Chinese national flag rising in the (体育场).

That idea came from the Italians living in America in 1800. Pizza is not as bad as some fast food, but most pizzas have too much salt. Falafel sandwiches（沙拉三明治）are probably the oldest type of fast food. Egyptians invented them about 2,500 years ago. They are made of beans and they have always been popular in Arab countries.

    Langston Hughes was a famous black poet (诗人). And he also wrote novels, plays and short

    Hughes was born in Joplin, Missouri, the US. He  with his grandmother in Lawrence, Kansas. She told him stories about their family. These stories made Hughes feel proud (自豪的) to be black. He  to write when he was living with her. During his life time, he wrote a lot about black people. his poems, novels and stories, Hughes helped other black people to see themselves as part of a much bigger group of people.

    After his grandmother died in 1915, he moved to Cleveland, Ohio, to live with mother and her new husband. Hughes went to high school there. His first short stories came out (出版) when he was still in high school.

    After finishing high school in 1920, he  to Mexico City to live with his father. Hughes had a very  relationship (关系) with his father. His father didn't want him to be a writer. He said that Hughes could go to only if he studied engineering (工程学). Hughes agreed. He went to Columbia University in New York City in 1921 but left the university in 1922 because of his colour.
