This year, Model United Nations (MUN) has become a hot topic in Futian middle schools because every school has founded an MUN club. The young members discussed some global issues like children's education and water problems. The 2018 Futian MUN Youth Conference (会议) took place in Futian Shixia School on December 18th. About 60 student delegates (代表) from thirteen junior high schools came together to listen, present, debate, and offer solutions to our planet's most serious problem. The theme was carbon emissions (碳排量) and global climate.
In the Futian MUN, a team of four named Beyond, from Futian Foreign Language School, attended this conference as one of the 14 teams from Futian schools. This team entered two rounds of MUN competitions before reaching the final. During the meeting, they played the role of British delegates. They made speeches and debated how to reduce Carbon emission. They exchanged ideas with student delegates from other teams. They worked hard to find solutions to the global climate problems.
MUN offers a fantastic program to the youth worldwide. It provides the students a platform to improve their English, critical (批判的) thinking and communicative skills. In MUN, student delegates step into the shoes of ambassador (大使) from UN member countries to debate the latest problems. Any student can take part in MUN, as long as they have the dream to learn something new and to work with people to try and make a difference in the world.

“I write about my activities every day, funny things, or questions in my life,” says Mary, a student at a middle school.Tom, a student at a high school, says, “I like posting pictures on my blog. Posting pictures is a way to make my blog more beautiful and many people like them. It’s a window into my life in a fun way.” He has been writing the blog for eight months.
Students like writing blogs because they’re easy and they’re free. They can write what they like, think, feel or post pictures. They don’t need to spend any money. “ Before I write a blog, I never really have a place to write down my ideas or show my pictures to people,” says Kate, a student at a college. For many students, the blog becomes a place to look for help with their problems. They look for support for advice from anyone. “It lets me writ
e down any problems. And sometimes, things are easier if you write them out first,” Beda says.

There are 5 channels on British television and each channel has several news programmes all day long. Some programmes are only for 3 minutes but some are one hour long. The people who read the news are called news presenters and because they appear on television every day, they are very famous.
Trevor McDonald is a popular news presenter in England in the news studio. He presents a programme called News at Ten every Monday to Friday evenings. Another popular news presenter is Kirsty Young. She has a modern style of reading news and, as you can see, she sits on the desk not on a chair!
Television news presenters need to have worked as journalists because they have to write most of the news that they read. Sometimes an important new event happens after the programme has started, so the presenter has to be able to read something without looking at it first. They must always keep calm even when there are many changes during the programme. At the end of News at Ten, Trevor McDonald says, “And finally…” Then he reads an unusual or interesting item. It’s a famous saying in England now.
