Obviously, strengthening strategic partnership is consistent with the ______ interests of the two countries and their peoples.

      A. traditional       B. potential                                       C. fundamental           D. secure

_______ I went to the South Lake in Hanzhong, I was deeply impressed with its beautiful scenery.

    A. For the first time   B. The first time       C. At first             D. It was the first time

Sleeping in is one of the best parts of the weekend. After a long, exhausting work week, sometimes all you want to do is sleep. On Friday night, you slide under the covers, smiling in anticipation. Now you can finally catch up on your sleep.

Except you can’t. When you open your eyes Saturday morning, it’s still early. If this were a weekday, you’d be up before your alarm. So what’s the deal?

We hate to break it to you, but you’ve pretty much done this to yourself. Your body is very good at recognizing patterns and adjusting accordingly. If you’ve got a 9-to-5 job, you’re getting up early five days a week. This effectively sets your body clock to wake you at a certain time each day. You can shut off your alarm clock, but your body clock will just keep ticking.

There’s another reason that you probably don’t want to think about: You’re just not as young as you used to be. We need less sleep as we get older. Babies need between 16 and 20 hours. Teenagers should (but often don’t) get nine hours a night. Younger and middle-aged adults need eight. In general, the older you get, the harder it is to snooze the day away.

Even if you do manage to sleep in, you may never fully catch up on your sleep. If your body needs eight hours every night and you only get six or seven from Monday to Friday, you’d have to sleep an extra five to ten hours on Saturday to make it up. And experts say even that may not be enough.

The bottom line: Sleep when you can, and enjoy those extra weekend morning hours. Who doesn’t want a longer weekend?

29. What does the underlined sentence mean in Paragraph 1?

   A. You know that you will oversleep on Saturday morning.

   B. You needn’t get up early on Saturday morning, so you will have a better sleep.

   C. Since you don’t work on Saturday, you needn’t go to sleep as usual.

   D. You know that even though you needn’t get up early on Saturday morning, you will wake

as usual.

30. What can we learn from Paragraph 3?

   A. If you have a 9-to-5 job, you are likely to develop a flexible body clock.

   B. Once you have set your body clock, it is not easy to change it.

   C. The author will not break the pattern, but you will do it yourself.

   D. If you adjust your body clock accordingly, you are healthy.

31. Which of the following is the reason why you can’t sleep in on weekends?

   A. You are not willing to admit that you are old.

   B. You need to relax on the weekend.

   C. Your body clock still works on weekends.

   D. You can never get enough sleep.

32. Which is the best title of the passage?

   A. Why can't I sleep in on weekends anymore?

   B. Why can’t I catch up on my sleep?

   C. How to turn off my body clock on Saturdays?

   D. How to get more sleep on Saturday mornings?

Little Tom was frozen with fear when the accident happened, so he just gave some ________answers when asked about what he witnessed.

A great many parents send their children to pre-schools --- educational programs for children under the age of five. It has been said that this is the time period when the brain does over fifty percent of its growing. This could mean that the learning process should be introduced during these years.

However, the views that different societies hold regarding the purpose of early childhood education are not same. Whereas Chinese parents tend to see preschools primarily as a way of giving children a good start academically, parents in the United States regard the primary purpose of preschools as making children more independent and self-reliant.

Preschools can operate under a guiding philosophy of play-based or academic learning. Play-based programs are guided by the central belief that children learn best through play. Play is thought to build children’s interest and love of learning. Academic programs emphasize reading, math and science, and use structured, teacher-directed activities to promote foundational skills in these areas. In the United States, the best-known program designed to promote future academic success is Head Start. The program, which stresses parental involvement, was designed to serve the “whole child”, including children’s physical health, self-confidence, social responsibility, and social and emotional development.

A recent evaluation suggests that preschoolers who participate in Head Start are less likely to repeat grades, and more likely to complete school in future. Furthermore, graduates of Head Start programs show higher academic performance at the end of high school, although the gains are modest. In addition, results from other types of preschool readiness programs indicate that for every dollar spent on the program, taxpayers saved seven dollars by the time the graduates reached the age of 27.

Not everyone agrees that programs that seek to enhance academic skills during the preschool years are a good thing. In fact, according to developmental psychologist David Elkind, United States society tends to push children so rapidly that they begin to feel stress and pressure at a young age. Elkind argues that academic success is largely dependent upon factors such as inherited abilities and a child’s rate of maturation, which parents can do nothing about. Consequently, children of a particular age cannot be expected to master educational material without taking into account their current level of cognitive(认知的) development. In short, children require development appropriate educational practice, which is education that is based on both typical development and the unique characteristics of a given child.

Tattoos(纹身) have been used both to indicate high rank and to brand society’s outcasts(补抛弃者). But perhaps most of all, the permanent designs created by tattoos have been used simply to decorate the human body.

Tattoos are designs made on the body by cutting or picking the skin and inserting(嵌入)  pigment, or coloring, into the scratch(划痕). Because the color is under the skin, a tattoo is usually permanent. Devices used to prick the skin have included sharpened bones, thorns, knives, and needles. Some Eskimo and Siberian peoples used a needle to draw a color-coated thread under the skin. A technique similar to tattooing is cicatrisation, in which the skin is cut to create permanent scars. Modern electric needles have refined the tattooing process.

Tattoos have been found on Egyptian mummies dating back to about 2000 BC. They were worn by ancient Greeks, and Britons, by the Japanese, and by tribal peoples in America, New Zealand, and many pacific islands. Their purposes varied. Many people thought tattooed designs were magical protection against misfortune, as do some present-day Arabs who tattoo themselves to ward off evil. Sometimes tattooing was a mark of courage or gave the illusion of courage. The Maoris of New Zealand tattooed elaborate designs on their faces to disguise(掩饰) expressions of fear. Early Japanese wore tattoos to show their rank in society. Tattoos were used in the 19th century to brand criminals and in the 20th century to label inmates of Nazi concentration camps.

Tattooing has always been remarkable in a decorative, cosmetic capacity. Centuries ago Japanese men who bared their chests in their work, such as carpenters, decorated themselves with tattoos. Tattoos were popular among American and European sailors. Though the use of tattoos has declined, it gained publicity in the 1980s as a permanent eyeliner for women. Physicians warned, however, that this could have unwanted side effects. Tattooing has been liked with cancer, and contaminated tattooing equipment can spread diseases, including AIDS.

1From the passage we learn that              .

Aall tattoos were not worn for the same purpose

Btattoos are designed patterns made on the surface of the skin

Cancient Egyptians and Greeks wore tattoos as a decoration

Dthere has been a growing tattooing tendency among women since 1980

2How many different purposes of tattoos are mentioned in the third paragraph?

       AFive.                   BSix.                     CSeven.                DEight.

3According to passage, one side effect of tattooing lies in the fact that        .

Atattooing creates permanent scars on the body

Btattooing can spread diseases like AIDS

       Ctattooing could contribute to cancer

Dtattooing make people suffer a great deal

4In the passage it is suggested that        .

Athe Eskimos and Siberians shared the same purpose wearing tattoos

Bit was discovered that the Egyptians were the first to tattoo themselves

Csome Arab people hold the belief that tattoos can drive off evil

Dwomen paid no attention to tattoos until the late 19th century

A.   Bollywood pays great attention to traditional values.

B.   Bollywood is lees famous than Hollywood, and yet it produces the most films in the world.

C.   Bollywood films are full of ideal things and free of daily worries.

D.   Bollywood is a decent refreshing replacement for those over-stimulating Hollywood films.

61. ____    Have you heard of Bollywood? All singing, all dancing and unrealistic, it is the perfect alternative to normal Hollywood movies. Bollywood is the Indian film industry, based in Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay. Most Chinese school kids have probably never seen an Indian film. Yet Bollywood is the largest producer of films in the world. This year the Indian Filmgare Awards, Bollywood's Oscrs, turn 50 years old.

62.___     The typical Bollywood movie usually has the following ingredients: a cup of romance, a tea-spoon of comedy, a dash of international sight-seeing, served with a huge slice of singing and dancing. There will also be one brave hero, one beautiful heroine and one baddie. The result is a fun-filled musical.

63.____     There is never any mention of politics, poverty or war. The actors change clothes and locations within a single song. But the audience don't mind. The films tell them the impossible is possible and that true love conquers all.

64.___    But, behind the beautiful scenes, Bollywood still emphasizes traditional family values. In most films, if two lovers want to break an arranged marriage, they can't just run away. They must win over their parents.

65.___    So if you're tired of all that Hollywood actions, check out the following Bollywood films. They will take you to a brighter, cheerier and more colourful world, where it's still cool to dance around a tree and sing a love song.

There were two things in the world that Ghagra Geeta Bali hated. The first was the way, Rani, The domestic help , combed her hair. The second was, you guessed it, her name. She hated her name so much that she prayed to god every night: Dear god, let me be born again. So I can have a name like Rita or Preeti. A short , smart one-word name.

On Tuesday , Ghagra Geeta Bali and her mother went for their usual shopping. There was a Long queue of children just outside the record store. They went closer to look. It was yet another scheme to sell a few audio cassettes. Everyone who bought a cassette qualified for the scheme. In this case , the artist whose songs were featured on the cassette was a young sensation called Malik Faridabadi , a great favorite with teenagers. Ghagra Geeta Bali was no exception.

A friendly young man was writing down the names of the people who wanted to participate in the scheme. Out of this long list Malik would pick one name , and the chosen one would get to meet him , plus of course , win many freebies(赠品).

But when her mother asked her to participate, Ghagra Geeta Bali said no. she didn’t want to speak out her name in front of so many people and make herself the bull(笑料)of amusement. But mothers being mothers , she just went up to the man and told him in firm tones:“Please enter my daughter’s name. It is Ghagra Geeta Bali.

It is what?the man asked , naturally a little taken aback.

G-h-a-g-r-a G-e-e-t-a B-a-l-i. There she is, she replied while pointing to her daughter. The crowd standing around also turned to stare. All Ghagra Geeta Bali wanted then was for the earth to open up and swallow her.

That did not happen . But the following week she received a call. It was from the recording company that had announced the scheme. And they told her that she was the chosen one.

“It is all because of your name,” said the public relations man who had called, “Mr. Faridabadi took one look at it in the list and said that he couldn’t wait to meet the brave girl bearing it.”

1Ghagra Geeta Bali didn’t like her name because             .

Ait would bring her a lot of trouble

Bit was too long and not beautiful

       Cit would make her angry

Dit was too ugly and dull

2When the girl saw the crowd turn to stare at her , she felt           .

The regular use of text messages and e-mails can lower the IQ more than twice as much as smoking marijuana(大麻).That is the statement of researchers who have found that _____41_____ away on a mobile phone or computer keypad or checking for electronic messages temporarily knocks up to 10 points off the user's IQ. This rate of decline in intelligence compares _____42_____ with the four-point drop in IQ associated with smoking marijuana, according to British researchers, who have described the phenomenon of _____43_____ stupidity as "infomania (咨询强迫症)”. The research conducted by Hewlett. Packard, the technology company, has concluded that it is mainly a problem for adult workers, especially men.

It is concluded that too much use of modern technology can damage a person's mind. It can cause a _____44_____ distraction of "always on" technology when employees should be concentrating on what they are paid to do. Infomania means that they lose concentration as their minds remain fixed in an almost permanent state of _____45_____ to react to technology instead of focusing on the task in hand. The report also added that, in a long term, the brain will be _____46_____ shaped by what we do to it and by the experience of daily life. At a microcellular level, the _____47_____ networks of nerve cells that make up parts of the brain actually change in response to certain experiences.

Too much use of modern technology can be damaging not only to a person's mind, but to their social relationship. 1100 adults were interviewed during the research. More than 62 per cent of them admitted that they were _____48_____ to checking their e-mails and text messages so often that they examined work-related ones carefully even when at home or on holiday. Half said that they always responded immediately to an email and will even interrupt a meeting to do so. It is concluded that infomania is increasing stress and _____49_____ and affecting one's characteristics. Nine out of ten thought that colleagues who answered e-mails or messages during a face-to-face meeting were extremely rude.

The effects on IQ were studied by Dr Glenn Wilson, a psychologist at University of London. "This is a very real and widespread phenomenon," he said. "We have found that infomania will damage a worker's performance by reducing their mental _____50_____ and changing their social life. Companies should encourage a more balanced and appropriate way of working."

An Israeli law banning too skinny models went into effect with the start of 2013.The law, approved last March in Israel, requires models to prove they have maintained a Body Mass Index (BMI) of at least 18.5 for three months before a fashion show. That means a woman who is 68 inches tall can weigh no less than 119 pounds.

“This law is another step in the war against eating disorders,” said physician Adatto.“Underweight models,” he explained,“can no longer serve as role models for innocent young people who copy their false image of being skinny.”

But some critics in this country say it is misguided, focusing on weight instead of health. They also say the Israeli ban is bound to fail because of the strong power of the fashion industry.“I think it’s an approach that isn’t going to work.” said eating disorder expert Susan Ice,who worked with an organization which creates a healthy working environment for models.

But Adatto told the reporter that he began to concern the issue after meeting an ambitious model who looked like she needed to be hospitalized. He said.“I realized that only legislation (立法) can change the situation. There was no time to waste; so many girls were dieting to death.”

However, the efforts to regulate models, weight in Spain and Italy have not resulted in significant changes in part because of difficulties in determining reliable methods of measuring weight and health.

Still, folks including Ice say theres no denying that images from Hollywood and the fashion industry can be difficult for young women to deal with.“Certainly I don’t believe the modeling industry has caused the rise in eating disorders, but it makes it harder,” she says.“It’s a difficult recovery environment, worshiping thinness as the beauty ideal.”

25.One benefit the new Israeli law may bring is       .

A.to change the working conditions of models

B.to prevent models from suffering from eating disorders

C.to provide guidance for women worshiping thinness

D.to lower the chance of skinny models’ death

26.In the opinion of the critics, the law won’t succeed because        .

A.it misleads young women to form a bad eating habit.

B.the fashion industry is much too influential.

C.it doesn’t create a healthy working environment for models.

D.it doesn’t provide a proper approach that can work well.

27.What caused Adatto to think that a law was needed to change the situation?

A.Being interviewed by a reporter.                               B.Establishing his fashion model agent.

C.Meeting an ambitious but too skinny model.             D.Seeing a model die from eating disorders.

28.According to the passage, the new Israeli law banning skinny models is          .

What should you think about in trying to find your career? You are probably better at some school subjects than others. These may show strengths that you can use in your work. A boy who is good at mathematics can use that in an engineering career. A girl who spells well and likes English may be good at office work. So it is important to do well at school. On the other hand, you may not have any specially strong or weak subjects but your records show a general satisfactory standard. Although not all subjects can be used directly in a job, they may have indirect value. Knowledge of history is not required for most jobs but if history is one of your good subjects you will have learned to remember facts and details. This is an ability that can be useful in many jobs.

Your school may have taught you skills, such as typing or technical drawing, which you can use in your work. You may be good at metal work or cookery (烹饪术) and look for a job where you can improve these skills.

If you have had a part-time job on Saturdays or in the summer, think what you gained from it. If nothing else, you may have learned how to get to work on time, to follow instructions and to get on with older workers. You may have learned to give correct change in a shop, for example. Just as important, you may become interested in a particular industry or career you see from the inside in a part-time job.

Facing your weak points is also part of knowing yourself. You may be all thumbs when you handle (运用) tools; perhaps you are a poor speller or cannot add up a column of figures. It is better to face any weaknesses than to pretend they do not exist. Your school record, for instance, may not be too good, yet it is an important part of your background. You should not be apologetic about it but instead recognize that you will have a chance of a fresh start at work.

71. Which of the following best sums up the first paragraph?

A. The importance of doing well at school.

B. Using school performance to help to choose a career.

C. The importance of being good at all subjects.

A. will be a complete failure in his future work     B. will not be able to find a suitable job

C. will regret not having worked harder at school   D. may do well in his future work

74. Which subject is supposed to have no direct value for job hunting?

A. choosing a career according to what one is skilled in

B. acquiring knowledge by working hard at school

Fun doesn’t have to be expensive

Everyone likes to have fun, but not everyone has much money to spend. Here are some free or cheap ways to enjoy yourself.

Go outside

Going outside in good weather can be a lot of fun if you don’t want to stay at home.    36

If you live in a city, you can go window-shopping. Or you can explore an old part of town and admire the buildings.

Try a hobby

While you’re out, take pictures of things you find. Planning and taking pictures can make you aware of the beauty all around you. Photographic equipment can be expensive, but it doesn’t have to be. You probably already own a camera or a cell phone that can take pictures. Other creative hobbies can also be done with basic materials.    37

Find an event

Libraries often hold free public events.    38    And while you’re there, borrow a book or movie for free. Museums and universities also hold free events.

If you can’t find a free event, you can volunteer at an event that requires tickets. People who organize concerts and plays need help.    39   Sometimes they reward volunteers with free tickets.

Meet a friend

Relationships are often the best things in life.   40   For example, invite a friend for a walk, an event or a time working on your hobby. Hosting doesn’t have to be difficult. If your friend comes in the afternoon, you don’t have to serve a meal. You can sit and talk, play board games or card games or watch a movie together.

A. A friend in need is a friend indeed.

B. Stop by one to find out what’s going on.

C. Hike or bicycle with a friend on a nearby path or in a park.

D. Whatever you do, find a friend to share it with.

E. It’s a good idea to stay at home to watch a movie.

F. You can set up or take down chairs or greet visitors.

G. Drawing and writing require nothing more than a pencil and paper.

Evidence has been piled up ______ drinking water before breakfast is good for our health.

A. what             B. which               C. if            D. that
