Kids worry about things like grades, tests, their changing bodies, getting along with friends, the goal they missed at the soccer game, or whether theyll make the team. They may worry about social troubles like cliques (朋党), peer pressure, or whether theyll be bullied (威吓), teased, or left out.

There are some tips to help your kids handle whats worrying them as follows.

Find out whats on their minds. Be available and take an interest in whats happening at school, on the team, and with your kids friends. Take casual opportunities to ask how its going. As you listen to stories of a days events, be sure to ask about what your kids think and feel about what happened. If your children seem to be worried about something, ask them about it.

Show your care and understanding. Being interested in your childrens concerns shows theyre important to you. It helps your kids feel supported and understood. Reassuring comments can help but usually only after youve heard your children out. Say that you understand their feelings and the problems.

Guide kids to solutions. When your children tell you about a problem, offer to help them. For example, if your son is worried about an upcoming math test, offering to help him study will reduce his concern about it. In most situations, dont simply jump in and fix the problem for your children. Instead, think it through and come up with possible solutions together. Solve problems with your kids, rather than for them. By taking an active role, kids learn how to handle a problem independently.

Be a good role model. Your response to your own worries can go a long way toward teaching your kids how to deal with everyday challenges. If youre at a loss or angry when dealing with a to-do list thats too long, your kids will learn that as the proper response to stress.

Exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. It reduces your risk of heart attack and is a good way to control body weight. It is also something you can do with other people, which can be great fun. So, it is important to find time to exercise and be healthier. Domestic online shopping platforms have turned Nov 11 into a shopping carnival in China. In 2015 alone, the sales volume on Alibaba,a domestic online shopping platform, reached 91.2 billion yuan ($13.5 billion) within 24 hours on Nov 11.

But there is a drawback to the shopping carnival. Most,if not all,of the products sold on the day have to be packaged well and sent through couriers. And the proper disposal(处置)of the materials used to package them has become a problem.

According to the State Post Bureau, the number of express deliveries(快递)reached almost 100 million on Nov 11 last year, which means about 100 million boxes were needed to pack the parcels.

How many of those boxes were recycled? There is no national data on that, but several media reports last year said the percentage was quite low.In one interview after another interviews, most respondents said they felt sorry for throwing the boxes away and they would not have done that had they been told how to deal with them properly.Beijing News even quoted a woman as saying that she had more than 20 boxes at home last November and didn’t know what to do with them, yet she did not throw them away because she didn’t want to do “waste” them.

Considering the lack of a garbage sorting system in China, throwing away packaging materials more often than not means disposing of them with kitchen waste. That is not only a waste of recyclable materials but also harmful to the environment.

In this aspect, courier companies could do something.Such companies always need packaging materials, and by offering rewards to consumers who return them, they will reduce not only waste but also their packaging costs.

This model has a successful example:when a consumer places an order for fresh milk in cities like Beijing,he or she pays a certain amount of money above the price of the milk to the supplier, who pays it back after the consumer returns the glass bottle. The recycling or reuse of glass bottles has become standard practice, which courier companies can learn from.

With Nov 11 just a few days away, this recycling or reuse model could help reduce waste in the country.Since China faces an environmental challenge,we cannot afford to waste hundreds of millions of paper boxes any more.

29.The underlined word “drawback” probably means “

A.benefit       B.shortcoming       C.decline       D.shrink

30.The feeling for most interviewees after they threw boxes can be described as

A.indifferent   B.considerate       C.regretful D.disappointed

31.The successful example is mentioned in order to

A.call on consumers to return glass bottles.

B.show the reuse of glass bottle is very popular.

C.recommend a standard model to courier companies to follow.

D.ask all companies to handle waste with this method.

32.This passage mainly talks about

A.how to deal with package boxes.

B.how to package the goods

C.the cause of package waste

D.the lack of garbage sorting systems in China.

How to Build Healthy Interpersonal Relationship

Sir John, a British scientist who won last year’s Nobel Prize for medicine, said he had predicted at the time of his frog experiments that the successful cloning of a mammal would happen within 50 years, and that “maybe the same answer is appropriate” for the step to human cloning. Parents who lose children in accidents may be able to clone “copies” to replace them then.

Although any attempt to clone an entire human would raise complex moral issues, the biologist claimed people would soon overcome their concerns if the technique became medically useful. Cloning was regarded with extreme doubts when it was first developed but became widely accepted after the birth of Louise Brown, the first “test tube baby”. He said, “When my first frog experiments were done, an American reporter asked how long it will be before these things can be done in mammals or humans. I said, ‘Well, it could be anywhere between 10 years and 100 yearshow about 50 years?’ It turned out that it wasn't far off the mark as far as Dolly was concerned. Maybe the same answer is appropriate.” Sir John added that cloning a human being effectively means making an identical twin, and doctors would therefore simply be “copying what nature has already produced”.

The average vote on allowing parents of deceased children, who are no longer fertile, to create another using the mother's eggs and skin cells from the first child, thinking the technique was safe and effective, is 60 per cent in favor. The reasons for “no” are usually that the new child would feel they were some sort of a replacement for something.

21. Sir John predicted the human cloning would be a reality in ________ at most.

 A. 100 years       B. 60 years         C. 50 years         D. 10 years

22. According to the text, which statement is NOT true?

 A. Louise Brown is the first “test tube baby”.

 B. Human cloning is still a controversial topic.

 C. Sir John is positive about the future of human cloning.

 D. Human cloning is creating something that didn't exist before.

23. What does the text mainly talk about?

 C. Views on human cloning.                   D. Achievements in human cloning.

It is good to make mistakes, and here's why.

66 It's always good to try new things because when you are trying new things you are growing. If you never try anything new, how can you improve, bow can you expand, and how can you innovate? The simple answer is You can't. 67 With very few exceptions, everything you see in your physical world is The result of someone trying something new. Every single detail of every single thing is the result of someone trying something new. The chair you're sitting on; the fabric on the chair; the pattern on the fabric on the chair; the dye in the pattern on the fabric on the chair are all the direct result of someone trying something new.

68_Consider this: Edison failed l0 000 times before he perfected the light bulb. When asked how it felt to fail that many times, he remarked that he hadn't failed t0 00~ times, but rather had learned I0 000

things that didn't work.

Finally, when you make a mistake you are that much closer to success. Why?

Because when all is said and done, you will have tried some finite number of things before you succeed.

69_

_70_ Quite the contrary, when you try something new you have to be willing to set some reasonable limits so that, in the event that it doesn't work out the way you want it to, you will be in a position to try again.

There is an old axiom that goes, if you're not making mistakes, you're not trying hard enough.

So go forth and make mistakes, and learn, and grow, and prosper.

A. Look around you.

B. First of all, mistakes are a clear sign that you are trying new things.

C. Every time you made a mistake you eliminated one of those things and are one step closer.

D. Another good thing about mistakes is this: when you are making mistakes, you are learning.

E. But this all doesn't mean that you should forge ahead with disregard for the consequences of a mistake.

F. Only by embracing and using your mistakes in this way can you make significant advances in your business and your career.

G. Can you imagine how many mistakes were made before all of these individual materials and components were perfected and then assembled into the automobiles we know today?

__ many times, but she still didn't know how to do it.

A. She was taught B. Having taught C. Having been taught D. She has taught

Scientists have never known for sure whether dinosaurs were warm-blooded animals, like mammals and birds, or cold-blooded, like reptiles and fish. A recent study shows that in fact many dinosaurs might not have belonged to either category but instead have fallen somewhere in the middle.

Warm-blooded animals have bodies that are able to make their own heat. Their body temperatures stay about the same whether it is hot or cold outside. Cold-blooded animals can not make their own heat, so their body temperatures depend on how warm the outside temperature is. Warm-blooded animals have much more active lifestyles than cold-blooded ones.

When scientists first discovered the bones of ancient dinosaurs in the 1800s, they were sure the huge creatures must have been slow. But as scientists found more bones of smaller, quicker dinosaurs, like Velociraptor, they realized that the creatures may have been much more active than they had thought.

A team of biologists began to examine. They knew that warm-blooded animals grow faster than cold-blooded ones. The researcher realized that they could determine whether a dinosaur had been warm-or cold-blooded by finding its growth rate.

The scientists examine the growth rings in bones from 21 different dinosaur species. The width of the growth rings showed how much the dinosaurs grew each year, much like the rings in the tree trunk do.

“Our results showed that dinosaurs had growth rates that were actually not characteristic of warm-blooded or cold-blooded animals,” said Brian Enquist, a scientist on the research team. “They didn’t act like mammals or birds, nor did they act like reptiles or fish.” Instead, dinosaurs fell somewhere in between. Scientists called the middle-of-the-road creatures “mesotherms”.

Being mesotherms gave dinosaurs many advantages. They were faster and stronger than reptiles that had to rely on the sun for warmth. Being somewhat cold-blooded had its benefits too. Cold-blooded animals bum energy more slowly. So they need much less food to live than warm-blooded animals. “It is doubtful that a lion size of T-rex could eat enough to survive,” explains John Grady, another biologist on the research team. By being mesothermic, the dinosaurs could be both fast and big.

12. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?

A. The advantage of cold-blooded animals.

    B. The disadvantages of warm-blooded animals.

    C. The differences between warm-and cold-blooded animals.

Zebra crossings - the alternating dark and light stripes on the road surface - are meant t

remind drivers that pedestrians may be trying to get across. Unfortunately, they are not very

effective. A 1998 study done by the Department of Traffic Planning and Engineering at Sweden's

Lund Univers ity revealed that three out of four drivers maintained the same speed or even speeded up as they were approaching a crossing. Even worse? Only 5% stopped even when they saw someone trying to get across.

Now a mother-daughter team in Ahmedabad, India has come up with a clever way to get

drivers to pay more attention - A 3-D zebra crossing with an optical illusion  (视错觉)  .

Artists Saumya Pandya Thakkar and Shakuntala Pandya were asked to paint the crosswalks by IL&FS, an Indian company that manages the highways in Ahmedabad. The corporation was looking for a creative solution to help the city's residents to cross the busy accident-prone  (易出事故的)  roads safely. Thakkar and Pandya, who had previously seen images of3-D zebra crossings that gave drivers the illusion of logs(原木)of wood on the streets in Taizhou, China, decided to test if a similar way would work in India.

Sure enough, in the six months that the 3-D crosswalks have been painted across four of the city's most dangerous highways, there have been no accidents reported! The artists say that while it may appear that the zebra crossing could cause the drivers to brake suddenly and endanger the vehicles behind, such is not the case. Because of the way the human eye works, the illusion is only visible from a distance. As they get closer, the painting looks just like any other ordinary zebra

crossing. The creators hope that their smart design will become increasingly common throughout

India and perhaps even the world. So let's look for ward to it.

32.  What can we learn from the first paragraph?

    A.  Most drivers will slow down at zebra crossings

B  Common zebra crossings don't function well

C  Drivers have to stop when approaching zebra crossings

    D.  About 95% of the drivers choose to speed up when approaching zebra crossings

33.  Why do drivers seeing the 3-D zebra crossings slow down?

    A.  Because the drivers consider the safety of pedestrians

B  Because the drivers mistake them for logs of wood On the streets

    C.  Because the drivers are afraid of being fined for breaking the traffic rules

    D.  Because the drivers don't want to brake suddenly and endanger the vehicles behind

34.  The last paragraph is mainly about____

    A.   the theory of the 3-D zebra crossings

    B.   the popularity of the 3-D zebra crossings

    C.   the shortcoming of the 3-D zebra crossings

    D.   the positive effect of the 3-D zebra crossings

35.  What is the author's attitude towards the 3-D zebra crossings?

    A. Cautious    B  Doubtful    C. Approving    D. Disapproving

If the doctor arrives in time, _______ babies will be saved.

It’s high time someone spoke up for today’s college students. They’re probably the most hardworking, ambitious people in America and their problems are not properly appreciated.

People like the Secretary of Education simply don’t know what they’re talking about when they knock students. Nor do those who complain about falling academic standards.

The vast majority of the nation’s 12 million students are struggling to pay for their educations. They are part of the invisible workforce. Many hold down full-time jobs. They’re frying hamburgers, photographing weddings, working in construction, and waiting on tables. The fact that they even show up for classes is a wonderful event.

The financial situation of most students explains a lot about what is happening in schools.  Why are the traditional courses so unpopular? Why are students flocking to accounting and computer science and any professional programs that seem to lead to careers?

Answer: Today’s working student has been forced into a kind of premature matter-of-fact way of viewing things. Romance is gone. The notion of transforming one’s self through study alone has disappeared. Today’s students seek freedom from manual labor, and the status conferred by a good job.

There are other consequences. Today’s students don’t have much time or energy to be devoted, and carry out independent research or even do serious homework. That’s the secret behind falling academic standards. Students have become consumers. They want grades and certifications.  Their professors can’t be expected to give a grade of failure to students who are clearly tired from the effort to pay their bills.

There’s a lot wrong with this situation. It’s twisting the definition of education out of shape.  Worse, it’s creating a generation that is totally unpleasant. The brightest students turn out to be yuppies (雅皮士). The vast majority are, at least, good-natured semi-literates.

The time has run out for philosophical debates about fixed courses of study. What this country needs is someone to stand up and say that being a full-time student during one’s formative years is an honorable calling worthy of support. If families can’t or won’t give it to their children, then the government should.

32. The author’s purpose in writing this article is to __________.

   A. A waken the whole society to the problems today’s college students face

   B. warn Americans that academic standards are falling

   C. advise college students to study hard

   D. provide a suggestion that only full-time students be enrolled

33. The most suitable word to describe the author’s feelings about today’s college students is     _________.

   A. criticize             B. sympathize               C. complain     D. urge

34. By saying “Romance is gone” in paragraph 5, the author means ____________.

   A. today’s students do not believe in love stories any more

   B. today’s students become more practical in dealing with things

   C. students think there is no affection any more and break up with their lovers

   D. today’s students hold matter-of-fact opinions on love

35. Which of the following suggestions will the author not agree with?

   A. We should encourage students to give up full-time jobs.

   B. Families should offer their children more help financially.

   C. We should stand up and say something for today’s college students.

   D. We should make more strict regulations to force students to study hard.

At presentI am extreme happy because I am doing what I like. As senior three student, I study hard every day and live it to the full. It feels like good to study hard with my determining classmates to fulfill our dreams. When I recalled the happy things that happened to me, the experience of my receiving the scholarship in middle school topped it all. It was a time that my family was going through financial difficulties. So I make up my mind to win the scholarship, hoped to lighten up my parents’ financial burdens. After making tons of painstaking effort, I succeeded. At the ceremony, my mom was the most poorly-dressed woman, and with the brightest smile on her face.

Each year there is an increasing number of cars on roads and streets as millions of new cars and trucks are produced. One out of every six Americans works at putting together the parts of cars, driving trucks, building roads or filling cars and trucks with gas.  16

Most Americans would find it hard to imagine what life would look like without cars.  17 . The polluted air becomes poisonous and dangerous to health.

18 . That’s what several of the large car factories have been trying to do. But to build a clean car is easier said than done. Progress in this field has been slow.

Another way is to take the place of the car engine by something else.  19 . Many makers believe that it will take years to develop a practical model that pleases man.

To prevent the world from being polluted by cars, we’ll have to make some changes in the way many of us live. Americans, for example, have to cut down on the number of their total cars. They are encouraged to travel and go to work by bicycle. Bicycling is thought to help the air clean. But this change does not come easily. A large number of workers may find themselves without jobs if a car factory closes down.  20 .

Although cars have led us to a better life, they have also brought us new problems.

A.Inventors are now working on steam cars as well as electric cars
