Making Short Videos
“A picture is worth a thousand words”, or so they say. Well, motion pictures can contain even more memories. 36 Here are some apps you can use to make your own short videos.
Qupeiyin.cn
Reciting lines from movies is an effective and classic way to learn English. So what if you could dub(配音) recordings accompanied by movie clips and then share them with friends? 37 You name it. By contributing your voice, you can either mimic(模仿) the original soundtrack or create something completely new of your own.
Shorts
38 With the help of the Shorts app, you can make pictures in your album into a slide show. Choose from any of the off-the-shelf themes---“holiday”, “travel”, “friendship” and “party” for example—each matched with its own theme music and slide background. But if you’re not satisfied with the combinations, feel free to do a little change by adding text to the pictures or replacing the music with something n your own playlist.
Viva Video
Video making and editing once seemed awfully hard. 39 But this app will ease you into the field with straight-forward functions and clear direction to help you “create your own video story”. Apart from filter, stickers and text, the coolest part of this app is that you can write the narratives yourself and add your own voice to the video. 40 Viva Video requires a relatively powerful phone to run smoothly.

The water we drink and use was running short. We all have to learn how to stop wasted water. One
of the step that we should take is to find ways of reusing them. Today in the most large cities, fresh water
is used only once and then it runs in a waste system. But it is possibly to pipe the used water to a
purifying factory, when the used water can be treated with chemical materials by the workers so that it can
be reused. But even if every large city purified and reused it’s water, we still would have enough water.
A major source of teen stress is school exams, and test anxiety is not uncommon. When you recognize your teen is under stress, how can parents help your teen stay calm before an exam?
Be involved. Parents need to be involved in their teen’s work. 36 _ What they look for is your presence — to talk, to cry, or simply to sit with them quietly. Communicate openly with your teen. Encourage your teen to express her worries and fears, but don’t let them focus on those fears.
Help them get organized. 37 Together , you and your teen can work out a time-table in which she can study for what she knows will be on the test.
Provide a calm setting. Help your teen set up a quiet place to study and protect his privacy. Give them a nutritious diet. It is important for your teen to eat a healthy, balanced diet during exam times to focus and do her best. 38 If this happens, encourage your teen to eat light meals or sandwiches. A healthy diet, rather than junk food, is best for reducing stress.
39 Persuade your teenager to get some sleep and /or do something active when she needs a real break from studying. Making time for relaxation, fun, and exercise are all important in reducing stress. Help your teen balance her time so that she will feel comfortable taking time out from studying to spend time with friends or rest.
Show a positive attitude. 40 Your panic, anxiety and blame contribute to your teen’s pressure. Make your teen feel accepted and valued for her efforts. Most importantly, reassure your teen that things will be all right, no matter what the results are.

ADAPTIVE ACTION SPORTS
Adaptive Action Sports was founded in 2005 by Amy Purdy and Daniel Gale.
Amy Purdy was an active snowboarder, until she lost both her legs to bacterial meningitis(脑脊膜炎). She spent three months in the hospital fighting for her life, and doctors gave her a less than two percent chance of survival. Because of meningitis Amy lost circulation in both her legs, and when she came out of the hospital she had prosthetic legs(义肢). When she lost her legs, Amy knew she would be active again, but didn’t know how or when. She struggled to be active on her new legs, and a little over two years after her amputation(截肢) she entered the USASA (United States of America Snowboard Association) National Snowboarding Competition and won medals in three events.
Amy was at an adaptive snowboard workshop in 2002 when she met Daniel Gale. They immediately formed a connection through their enthusiasm for snowboarding, music, and art. Amy’s biggest struggle had been obtaining information on how to start snowboarding again with prosthetic legs, and she and Daniel both saw the need to help others like Amy. They “wanted to create something, a place, a forum, an organization that would enable individuals to find and participate in their enthusiasms without a struggle. Adaptive Action Sports was born.”
Their dream was to help athletes with permanent physical disabilities compete in action sports. Adaptive Action Sports holds camps, clinics, and events to create programs and opportunities for these individuals.
Since 2000, the USASA has provided opportunities for adaptive athletes to compete in snowboarding competitions. In 2007, the USASA Competition had 17 adaptive athletes compete, the largest number of adaptive athletes in adaptive athlete competition history. Although many competitors were still injured, they recovered quickly and showed how hard they are willing to push themselves.

Suppose you wanted to take a day off to join a camping trip with your friends but your manager refused and forced you to work that day. In this situation you’ll suffer the feeling of frustration. You can also become frustrated if you’re faced with large piles of work, but you don’t have enough time to finish them.
Unavoidable short-term bursts of frustration aren’t likely to have a long-term effect on you, but what if something was blocking the path to your long-term goals? You want to reach a goal or achieve something but you don’t have any idea on how to achieve it. How will you feel? Recent studies have shown that one of the reasons why people become depressed is that they haven’t cleared their frustration for a long time.
Frustration also leads to another result. If your manager forced you to work on your day off, you may find yourself dealing aggressively with your colleagues or you may even project this aggression on your kids when you go home. Of course you can’t shout at your manager and that’s why your aggression remains until you empty it somewhere else.
Generally speaking, stubborn people are more likely to be influenced by frustration than anyone else. It’s their inability to let go of things that increases their frustration. Therefore, take advantage of the new situation and think about if there are any other methods you could use to reach the same goal. Be like water and take the shape of whatever container you are in. Find another way, such as communicating with those you trust. Frustration is sometimes the result of thinking that there is only one way to do something and this is the complete opposite of flexibility.
32.The first paragraph implies that frustration usually happens when .
A. you are occupied with a large amount of work
B. you’re fed up with doing the same work
C. something stops you reaching your goal
D. you aren’t given enough time to relax
33. From the passage, we learn that .
A. some workers shouted at their managers when they got frustrated
B. short-term frustration doesn’t necessarily have a long-term effect
C. frustrated people usually have an aggressive attitude towards their family
D. setting a short-term goal will prevent people from feeling frustrated
34. According to the passage, who are more likely to be influenced by frustration?
A. People who hide their feelings from anyone else.
B. People who don’t like to communicate with others.
C. People who always follow others’ instructions.
D. People who never make a change in their opinion.
35. The writer mentions water in the last paragraph to .
A. tell people why they need to become creative
B. stress the importance of flexibility to people
C. show people how to make full use of resources
D. inform people of changing their goals frequently
It is natural that young people are often 61 (comfort) when they are with their parents.
They say that their parents don’t understand them. They often think that their parents are out of touch with modern ways, 62 they are too serious and too strict with their children, and that they seldom give their children a free hand.
Parents often find 63 difficult to win their children’s trust and they always forget how they themselves felt when young.
Young people like to act without much thinking. It is one of their ways to show that they have grown up and they can face any difficult situation. Adults worry 64 (much) easily. Most of them plan things ahead.
Young people make their parents angry with their 65 (choose) in clothes, in entertainment and in music. But they do not mean to cause any trouble: It just shows that they feel cut off 66 the adult’s world, and they have not yet been accepted into their world. That’s why young people want to make a new culture of 67 own. And if their parents do not like their music or entertainment or clothes or their way of speech, this will make the young people very happy.
Sometimes you are so proud of yourself that you do not want your parents to say “yes” to what you do. All you want is 68 (leave) alone and do what you like. It is natural enough, after 69 (be)a child for so many years, when you were completely under your parents’ control.
If you plan to control your life, you’d better win your parents. If your parents see that you have 70 high sense of responsibility, they will give you the right to do what you want to do.

Face-book chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg and Anna Maria Chavez, chief of American Girl Scouts, are leading a campaign to discourage the use of the word “bossy”. Does the term destroy the confidence of young girls?
The campaign claims that terms like “bossy” are improperly applied to females, preventing schoolgirls from seeing themselves as future “leaders”. From its first application, the word has been definitely connected more with women than with men. It first appeared in 1882, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, mentioning “a lady manager who was extremely bossy”. As late as 2008, the word appeared in reference to females four times more often than males, claim the Ban Bossy campaigners. “To me, the reference is always is association with women,” says Helen Trim, director of Fresh Minds. “I have three brothers and my family still call me ‘bossy’ today.” Her father is the only other family member who could be considered in that way, says Trim, but nobody would ever call him so.
Some educators recommend that the word should be reclaimed, rather than banned.“But the thing with‘bossy’ is that there's an infantile (幼稚的)element to it,“says Sara Mills, professor at Sheffield University. “You think of ‘bossy’ as being like a little kid who's claiming more than he has the right to claim.”
It's not just“bossy”under fire.“Pushy”is another target. The implication is that women shouldn’t present themselves as powerful and confident. Mills suggests, which some women are willing to listen to and accept. Trim points out that many modern female business role models are able to be bosses without being labeled‘bossy’.And she rarely,if ever, hears the word used within her company. But she says that the damage may be dome much earlier in a woman’s life.“It does come about from those early teenage years.”she says.“I think it's impossible to ban a word, but if people are replacing it with words like‘confidence'or‘assertiveness',we would all be in a much better place.”

For thousands of years, people thought of glass as something beautiful to look at. Only recently have they come to think of it as something to look through. Stores display their goods in large glass windows. Glass bottles and jars that hold food and drink allow us to see the contents. Glass is used to make eyeglasses, microscopes, telescopes, and many other extremely useful and necessary objects.
Until the Second World War, most of the glass used for optical(光学的) instruments was imported from Europe. However, during the war Americans could not get European glass, and they were forced to make their own. Therefore, new kinds of glasses were developed that had been previously unknown. These new effects were achieved by mixing other chemical elements with the sand. Some of these new glasses are very strong and can resist many kinds of shocks. Legend has it that a very hard glass was invented by a Roman who showed his discovery to the Emperor. When the Emperor saw the glass he feared that it would become more valuable than gold and sliver, making his treasure worthless. Therefore, he had the glassmaker killed, and the secret was not discovered again for hundreds of years.
In the present century, safety glass was invented for use in modern cars and planes. Safety glass is made by placing a layer of plastic between two layers of plate glass. When the outside layer of glass is broken, the pieces do not scatter(散开) and injure people. Some glass of the type is strong enough to resist bullets(子弹).
Although nowadays plastics have replaced glass under conditions where glass might be easily broken, there are new uses being developed, for the greatest advantage of glass is that its component(组成的) parts are inexpensive and can be found all over the world.
28. As time goes by, glass _________.
A. is regarded as transparent(透明的)
B. is used to make things look pleasant
C. is seen as more than decoration
D. is widely used to replace steel in making containers
29. Why did Americans make their own glass during the Second World War?
A. The war blocked the way of glass import.
B. The glass made in Europe was out of date.
C. They refused to use the European glass.
D. They were able to make a new kind of glass.
30. Why does the author tell us the legend?
A. To prove the Roman was the first inventor of hard glass.
B. To support the Americans were as clever as the Romans.
C. To give some information about hard glass.
D. To provide a historical event concerned with hard glass.
31. Why are new uses of glass being developed?
A. Because glass is not as safe as plastics.
B. Because glass is cheap and easily obtainable.
C. Because glass is not as strong and durable as plastics.
D. Because glass is more and more widely used.
