高二英语试题

At thirteen, I was diagnosed(诊断)with kind of attention disorder(紊乱). It made school

difficult for me. When everyone else in the class was focusing on tasks, I could not.

In my first literature class, Mrs. Smith asked us to read a story and then write on it, all

within 45 minutes. I raised my hand right away and said, “Mrs. Smith, you see, the doctor

said I have attention problems. I might not be able to do it.”

She glanced(匆匆一瞥) down at me through her glasses, “you are no different from your

classmates, young man.”I tried, but I didn’t finish the reading when the bell rang. I had to

take it home.

In the quietness of my bedroom, the story suddenly all became clear to me. It was about a blind person, Louis Braille. He lived in a time when the blind couldn’t get much education. But Louis didn’t give up. Instead, he invented a reading system of raised dots(点), which

opened up a whole new world of knowledge to the blind.

Wasn’t I the“blind” in my class, being made to learn like the “sighted” students? My

thoughts spilled out(突然涌出) and my pen started to dance. I completed the task within 40

minutes.Indeed, I was no different from others; I just needed a quieter place. If Louis could

find his way out of his problems, why should I ever give up?

I didn’t expect anything when I handed in my paper to Mrs. Smith, so it was quite a

surprise when it came back to me the next day---- with an “A” on it. At the bottom of

the paper were these words:“ See what you can do when you keep trying?”

A. Angry      B. Impatient     C. Sympathetic    D. Encouraging

                                                                           Li Hua

In a class this past December, after I wrote some directions on the board for students about their final examination, one young woman quickly took a picture of the board using her smart phone. When I looked in her direction, she apologized, “Sorry. Was it wrong to take a picture?”

“I can’t read my own handwriting,” the young woman explained. “It’s best if I take a picture of your writing so I can understand the notes.”

That remark started a class-wide discussion about taking a picture instead of taking notes. For those in the photo-taking camp, reasons extended(扩展) beyond their inability to comprehend their own handwriting. Some took pictures of notes because they knew their phone was a safe place to store material. They might lose paper, but they wouldn’t lose their phones. Some took photos because they wanted to record exactly the way in which I had noted information on the board. Others told me that during class they liked to be able to listen to the discussion attentively.

Yet the use of cameras may be convenient, it does raise questions for the classroom. Is a picture an effective replacement for the process of note-taking?

Teachers encourage students to take notes because the act of doing so is more than just recording necessary information—it helps prepare the way for understanding. Encouraging students to take notes may be an old-fashioned method, but just because a method has a long history doesn’t mean it’s out of date. Writing things down engages a student’s brain in listening, visual, and kinesthetic(触觉的) learning. The act of writing down information enables a person to begin to memorize, to process and combine it, helping learning new knowledge.

Taking a picture does indeed record the information, but it lacks some of the necessary mental activities that taking notes employs. So can the two be equally effective?

A. took a picture of the board   B. missed the teachers’ directions

A. They believe smart phones are much safer for storing notes.

B. They want to listen more attentively in class.

C. They lack proper techniques for taking notes.

D. They want to have the exact version of the notes on the board.

27. According to the passage, taking notes by hand__________.

A. requires students to think independently

B. seems unsuitable for students to learn new ideas

C. proves to be an old and useless learning method

D. helps students actively participate in learning

28. What is the main idea of this passage?

A. The traditional way of note-taking should be replaced.

B. Note-taking by hand is not out of date.

C. A modern way of note-taking is catching on.

D. A picture is worth a thousand words.

You may have experienced the annoyance of being fined because of parking illegally or finding your car towed away(拖走)after leaving it parked somewhere for a couple of minutes. But now a high-tech car sticker that’s designed to be stuck to a car’s windscreen could help motorists avoid such a situation.

The TowStop sticker sends a text message to a driver when touched by a traffic policemanto allow motorists to send a reply and give them time to move their cars immediately. Frankfurt-based IT consultant, Daniel Kalliontzis, came up with the idea and is raising money to put his 43sticker into production.

Car owners can put the sticker inside their car’s windscreen, having set it up with key information, such as their phone number. The slim design will include a sensor(传感器)that, when touched by a traffic policeman, will send a text message warning a driver of a possible fine. The driver could then type a reply for the policeman using a smartphone, which will appear on the sticker’s screen.

The smart sticker system will rely on the good will of traffic policemen and in a way, a German law. The law states: an officer has to choose the most efficient and inexpensive way for the car owner to remove the vehicle. It could be cheaper for the government to call the driver than to tow his car.

Mail Online asked the Department of Transport whether the sticker could be used in the UK in a similar way. A spokesman said, “In England there is no legal duty to warn the motorist before issuing the ticket. However, a policeman does have the discretion not to issue a ticket if he doesn’t think the situation is that bad or he just wants to issue a warning. ”

So far, Mr. Kalliontzis has raised just over2,362of his39,381goal. If he manages to raise the money, the stickers will be shipped in June 2015. But it appears that car owners using the smart system could get some unnecessary warning messages, because anyone could touch the smart sticker.
