高二英语上学期上册试题

Keeping a diary in English is one of the effective ways to improve our English writing abilities.  61    (compare) with other forms of writing, it is shorter and takes    62    time. It can help us to develop the habit of thinking in English.    63    we persist in this practice, gradually we’ll learn how to express ourselves in English. In keeping a diary in English, we certainly run up against many difficulties. In the first place, it often happens    64    we have trouble finding appropriate words and phrases to give expression to our mind.    65    (second), there are many idiomatic ways of saying things in Chinese. And it is extremely hard for us to put them into English__66_____ (proper).

As far as I am concerned, my    67    (suggest) is that we should always have a notebook and a Chinese-English dictionary within easy reach. Whenever something    68     (beat) us, we can first put it down in our notebook and then consult our dictionary. We can also turn to our English teacher for help, if necessary. In short, I believe that it is   69    great use to keep a diary in English for    70     development of our writing skills.

Brenda Bongos was a happy, artistic girl. She had one big dream—to play the drums in a band. But one big problem lay in her way. To be good enough to play in a band, Brenda had to practice a lot, but she lived next-door to a lot of old people. Many of them are sick. She knew that the sound of beating drums would really get on their nerves. So, she had tried playing in the strangest places: a basement, a kitchen, and even in a shower. But there was always someone it would annoy.

One day, while watching a science documentary on TV, she heard that sound cannot travel in space, because there's no air. At that moment, Brenda Bongos decided to become a sort of musical astronaut.

With the help of a lot of time, books and work, Brenda built a space bubble. This was a big glass ball connected to a machine which sucked out all the air inside. All that would be left inside was a drum kit(成套设备) and a chair. Brenda got into the space suit she had made, entered the bubble, turned on the machine, and played those drums like a wild child.

It wasn't long before Brenda Bongos came very famous. Many people came to see her play in her space bubble. Shortly afterwards she came out of the bubble and started giving concerts. Her fame spread so much that the government suggested that she be part of a unique space journey. Finally, Brenda was a real musical astronaut, and had gone far beyond her first ambition of playing drums in a band.

Years later, when asked how she had achieved all this, she thought for a moment, and said: ''If those old people next – door hadn't mattered so much to me, I wouldn't have found a solution, and none of this would have ever happened.''

Vitamin D helps bones and muscles grow strong and healthy. Low levels of vitamin D can lead to diseases such as rickets (佝偻病), mainly found in children. The thinning of bone is a common problem as people, especially women, get older.

But more and more research is suggesting that vitamin D might also help prevent many diseases. The easiest way to get vitamin D is from sunlight. The sun’s ultraviolet (紫外线的) rays react with skin cells to produce vitamin D. But many people worry about getting skin cancer and skin damage from the sun. As a result they stay out of the sun. Also, darker-skinned people produce less vitamin D than lighter-skinned people. The amount also decreases in older people and those living in northern areas that get less sunlight.

Not many foods naturally contain vitamin D. Foods high in this vitamin include oily fish and fish liveroils (鱼肝油). Farmed fish have only about one-fourth as much vitamin D as wild fish. Small amounts of vitamin D are found in beef liver, cheese and egg yolks. But most of the vitamin D in the American diet comes from foods such as milk.

Research in the last several years has shown that low levels of vitamin D may increase the risk of heart attacks in men and deaths from some cancers. More doctors are now having their patients tested for their vitamin D levels. But as research continues, some experts worry that if people take too much vitamin D, it might act as a poison. Also, skin doctors warn people to be careful with sun exposure because of the risk of skin cancer.

29. The first paragraph is mainly about .

A. the muscle diseases                                B. the sources of vitamins

D. The more vitamin D people take, the healthier they will become.

For a while, I wrote a Tuesday tip on my blog Lyonsdenmom.com. It was about easy week-night dinners, organizing parties or perhaps finding time out for friends.

About a year ago, I ran out of tips.

The truth? As a busy working mom with five busy kids, I probably do have a few tips to share. But honestly, the bar is set pretty low---on a recent day when I was walking our dog, a stranger who knew I had five kids said, Wow! You have a dog, too?! And it even looks like you showered today! Yes, it‟s true, I shower. Not every day, but most days. See, I‟m telling the truth. Honestly, in this cold winter, I‟m probably taking a shower more to warm up than to clean up.

Other funny truths? I‟m tired. In fact, for the past year, I’ve been too tired to type up any update on our life here in Lyons Den. It‟s hard to arrange a career with all these kids. Although folks just believe that it must be so much easier now since all the kids are in school, I‟m here to tell you, it‟s not. It‟s really not. When I get home from work, I‟m often tearfully greeted by five kids and five homework folders filled with math facts, invitations, notices and artwork.

All those happy smiling faces I share on Facebook are real. We are a happy family---thank God for that! But we‟re not always smiling, and even in those rare best times when I can get all five kids looking at the camera, the odds would be that one of them isn’t wearing underwear, one is pinching () someone behind the scenes and one is just perfectly pronouncing Damn! So, less perfectly-posed pictures, but more telling the truth. Even if only on Tuesday.

Towards evening, Jennifer was walking on the beach with a gentle breeze blowing through her hair. Looking up at the golden red sun ball, she was surprised by its color, deep red in the middle, softly fading into yellow. She could hear nothing but the waves and the seagulls flying up above in the sky.

The atmosphere relaxed her. This was what she needed. “It’s getting late,” she thought, “I must go home. My parents will be wondering where I am.” She wondered how her parents would react when she got home after the three days she was missing. She kept on walking, directing herself to bungalow(平房)163, where she spent every summer holiday. The road was deserted. She walked slowly and silently. Just in a few hundred meters, she would have been safe in her house.

It was really getting dark now. She wished she had her favorite coat on. It might keep her really warm. She imagined having it with her. This thought dissipated(消散) when she finally saw her front door. It seemed different. Nobody had taken care of the outside garden for a few days. She was shocked: her father was usually so strict about keeping everything clean and tidy, and now…

She entered the house. First, she went into the kitchen and saw a note written by her father,

“Dear Ellen, there’s some coffee ready; I went looking.” But where was Ellen? On the right side of the hallway was her parents’ room. She went in and saw her. Her mother, lying on the bed, was sleeping. Her face looked so tired, as if she hadn’t slept for days. She was really pale. Jennifer would have wanted to wake her up, but she looked too tired. So Jennifer just fell asleep beside her. When Jennifer woke up something was different. She wasn’t in her mother’s room and she wasn’t wearing the old clothes she ran away in. She was in her cozy bed in her pajamas(睡衣).

It felt so good being back home. Suddenly she heard a voice. “Are you feeling better now, dear? You know you got us very, very scared.”

Writing journals has been one of the most helpful things I’ve ever done. Through writing journals I’ve not only learned a lot about myself, but also removed a lot ofobsessive (烦恼的) thoughts, by writing them down and considering them.

Journals give you a place to write down your honest thoughts without being afraid of what people will think of you. There are some ideas for writing journals:

lDraw pictures

lWrite poetry or short stories

lGoals: daily and long-term

lRespond to a magazine article that you are interested in

lWrite about obsessive thoughts and try to find what’s causing them

lA list of things you are proud of (It can always increase your confidence when you need it)

lMake a pro/con (赞成/反对) list when you’re trying to make a decision: most of the time the decision will start to be clearer afterwards

The best way to start is to decide where you want to write your journal. (Though it’s called the journal, it doesn’t mean you can only do it in a “journal”) . If you like the traditional style of journals, then use a notebook, blank paper or graph paper, whichever you like best. If you prefer to go digital, start a blog. You can make the blog public or private, and it’s a good way to keep track of articles or pictures you find online. (You can link to them.)

Even if you feel there’s nothing for you to write about at first, you might be surprised to find that once you start, you can’t stop.

21. What does writing journals help the author do?

A. Make many friends.                                B. Do many helpful things.

  C. Be free from some worries.                D. Learn a lot about other people.ziyuanku.com

  C. It helps you make great progress.          D. It helps you decide what to do.

23. What do you think about writing journals as a beginner?

  A. You have little to write.

  B. Writing journals is fun.

  C. You’re good at writing.

  D. It’s hard to keep track of articles.

1.      匆匆打发早餐对身体不好(rush)
