How to Succeed in a Job Interview

You’ve probably heard your parents talk about the importance of making a good first impression in a job interview. Here are some strategies to help you succeed in your job interview.

Dress appropriately. Sneakers, sandals, flip-flops, shorts, T-shirts, sweatshirts and jeans don’t work.___37___

Be prepared. Appearing confident is easiest when you know what you’re talking about.    ___ 38___ Researching the company shows the interviewer that you’re smart and eager to learn. Doing your research also lets you learn what inspires you about the company so you can share your enthusiasm with the interviewer.

Answer questions. You’ll no doubt be asked typical interview questions, such as why you’re interested in the position, what types of skills you offer, and when you’re available to work. ___39___

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Questions don’t make you look stupid. ___40___ And it shows that you’re not afraid to interact with other people--a particularly good interview strategy if the position involves dealing with people. If possible, you can practice being interviewed by an adult in business. When the real time comes, you’ll be more prepared and comfortable.

A.        Prepare your answers before the interview.

B.        Say how much you are interested in the position.

C.        If you’re a guy, wear a nice pair of trousers and a shirt.

D.       Asking good question shows the interviewer that you’re thoughtful.

E.        The same goes for girls: wear something simple and avoid short skirts.

F.        Answering questions properly can leave a good impression on the interviewer.

G.       Learn about the position or the company in advance and show your knowledge during the interview.

Diet Coke, diet Pepsi, diet pills, no-fat diet, vegetable diet… We are surrounded by the word “diet” everywhere we look and listen. We have so easily been attracted by the promise and potential of diet products that we have stopped thinking about what diet products are doing to us. We are paying for products that harm us psychologically (心理) and physically.

Diet products greatly weaken us psychologically. On one level, we are not allowing our brain to admit that our weight problems lie not in actually losing the weight, but in controlling the amount of fatty, high-calorie, unhealthy foods. Diet products allow us to jump over the thinking stage and go straight for the scale() instead. All we have to do is to recognize the word “diet” in food labels.

On another level, diet products have greater psychological effects. Every time we have a zero-calorie drink, we are telling ourselves without our awareness that we don’t have to work to get results. Diet products make people believe that gain comes without pain, and that life can be without struggle.

The danger of diet products lies not only in the psychological effects they have on us, but also in the physical harm that they cause. Diet foods can indirectly harm our bodies because eating them instead of healthy foods means we are preventing our bodies from having basic nutrients. Diet foods and diet pills contain zero calorie only because the diet industry has created chemicals to produce these wonder products. Diet products may not be nutritional, and the chemicals that go into diet products are possibly dangerous in the future.

Now that we are aware of the effects that diet products have on us, it is time to seriously think about buying them. Losing weight lies in the power of minds, not in the power of chemicals. Once we realize this, we will be much better able to resist diet products, and therefore prevent the psychological harm that comes from using them.

65.From Paragraph 1, we learn that __________.

  A. diet products fail to bring out people’s potential

  B. people have difficulty in choosing diet products

  C. diet products are misleading people

  D. people are tired of diet products

66.  One psychological effect of diet products is that people tend to _________.

  A. try out a variety of diet foods

  B. think twice before they enjoy diet foods

  C. pay attention to their own eating habits

  D. watch their weight rather than their diet

67.Diet products indirectly harm people physically because such products ______.

A. are over-taken                                           B. are short of basic nutrients

C. have no chemicals                               D. provide too much energy

68.Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?

A.  B.  C.  D.
CP: Central Point  P: Point   Sp: Sub-point (次要点)   C: Conclusion(结论)

Many people take it for granted that black is a color of bad things while white should always mean something good. This may be because, in their opinion, black is related to darkness and white to purity. However, that is not always the case. Did you know that the same one colour may mean differently in different places of the world?

In the English-speaking world, black is the colour of mourning. People wear black clothes at the funeral. Red is concerned with danger or blood. Yellow is the word for fear. If you are afraid, you are yellow. Yet none of these sayings is true outside the English-speaking world. In China and Korea white is the colour of mourning. In Russia, China and some other countries, red stands for beauty, life and excellence. In Italy and Germany, you are yellow with anger, not with fear.

Even within the English-speaking area it is not difficult to find color with different meanings. A redcap in the United States is a porter in a railway station. In Britain, however, a redcap is a military policeman. Both names are logical because both men wear red caps. Similarly, the British term for an American white collar worker is sometimes called a black-coated worker.

One does not have to cross an area to find color differences. Would you rather be red-blooded? If we go back to the origin, we find that both terms are logical as both names suggest. The expression "blue-blood" comes from Spain, where some noble families proudly said that they had "blue blood". But then why "blue" blood? Because they were fair-skinned, and it is only natural that their blood vessels stood out appearing blue.

29. The two meanings of the term "redcap" form a difference in _______.

A. pronunciation        B. climate

C. Custom     D. logical relationship

30. Both Britain and America would probably agree that _______.

A. black is the color of mourning

B. a redcap is a porter in a station

C. red stands for beauty and excellence

D.black-coated worker is employed in an office

31. The best title for this passage is _______.

A. The Origin of Blue Blood

B. Colors that Carry Bad Meanings

C. The Meaning Concerned With Certain Colors

D. The Development of the Symbolic Use of Color mentioned in the passage?

第二节 (共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)

Beginning college is exciting: new ideas to explore, new challenges to be met and many decisions to be made; your future begins here.

However, you will find college life is different from your previous school environment. Many of us can be easily overwhelmed by the details of running a well-balanced life. While some of us may have the know-how, I guess there are more of us who can benefit from learning about the experiences of others who have walked the college halls before you.

The following you may find of use about life on campus:

●Plan well. There are so many new things to do at a new college or university. Give yourself time to make new friends and become familiar with the campus, but don’t forget why you are there. Give some time for social activities and manage your time wisely.

●Don’t miss the guidelines. The restrictions, rules and regulations of all kinds can usually be found in your students’ handbook. Consider them well-balanced food for thought. What dates are important? What pieces of paper need to be handed in? What can/cannot you do in your student residence? Who do you need to complete to graduate?

●Write the word “STUDY” on the walls of the bedroom and bathroom, and maybe it will help to write it on a piece of paper and stick it on the telephone, TV and the kitchen table. Consider this ------ you are paying thousands of dollars for your course. You pay every time you have to repeat or replace a course.

●Build your identity. This is the time for you to decide what to do and what not to do. Take as much time as you need to explore new ideas. Do not be afraid of the beyond. This is learning to make good choices.

Have you ever run into a careless cell phone user on the street? Perhaps they were busy talking, texting or checking updates on WeChat without looking at what was going on around them. As the number of this new “species” of human has kept rising, they have been given a new name — phubbers(低头族).

Recently, a cartoon created by students from China Central Academy of Fine Arts put this group of people under the spotlight. In the short film, phubbers with various social identities(身份) bury themselves in their phones. A doctor plays with his cell phone while letting his patient die, a pretty woman takes selfie in front of a car accident site, and a father loses his child without knowing about it while using his mobile phone. A chain of similar events eventually leads to the destruction of the world.

Although the ending sounds overstated, the damage phubbing can bring is real.

Your health is the first to bear the effect and result of it. “Constantly bending your head to check your cell phone could damage your neck,” Guangming Daily quoted doctors as saying. “the neck is like a rope that breaks after long-term stretching.” Also, staring at cell phones for long periods of time will damage your eyesight gradually, according to the report.

But that’s not all. Being a phubber could also damage your social skills and drive you away from your friends and family. At reunions with family or friends, many people tend to stick to their cell phones while others are chatting happily with each other and this creates a strange atmosphere, Qilu Evening News reported.

It can also cost you your life. There have been lots of reports on phubbers who fell to their death, suffered accidents, and were robbed of their cell phones in broad daylight.

24. For what purpose does the author give the example of a cartoon in Paragragh2?

A. To inform people of the bad effects of phubbing.

B. To advertise the cartoon made by students.

C. To indicate the world will finally be destroyed by phubbers.

D. To warn doctors against using cell phones while treating patients.

25. Which of the following is NOT a risk a phubber may have?

A. His social skills could be affected.

B. His neck and eyesight will be gradually harmed.

C. He will cause the destruction of the world.

D. He might get separated from his friends and family.

26. Which of the following may be the author’s attitude towards phubbing?

A. Supportive.      B. Opposed.        C. Optimistic.      D. Objective.

27. What may the passage talk about next?

A. Advice on how to use a cell phone.

B. People addicted to phubbing.

C. Measures to reduce the risks of phubbing.

D. Consequences of phubbing.

The freezing point is the temperature __________ water changes into ice.
