When I was twelve years old, my family lived next to a forest. Every evening, mockingbirds(知更鸟) would come and rest in the trees and sing. I enjoyed 1singing so much that I decided to catch a young bird. In this way, I 2 hear it sing for me every day.
I finally managed3 one and put it in a cage. At first, the bird was very frightened, so it fluttered(扑腾)in4 new home all the time. Several days later, it was used 5 in this new home.
The next day, the little bird's mother flew to the cage with 6food in her mouth. The baby bird looked very happy and ate everything 7the mother brought to it. I was so happy to see this, for the mother knew how to take care of her baby8than me.
But9the bird morning, I found it died. I was terribly10and cried at once. I didn't know 11happened.
Arthur Wayne, my father's friend, was a famous ornithologist(鸟类学家). She 12my father at that time.13she knew the whole thing, she explained to me," If a mother mockingbird finds her baby14in a cage, she will bring it poisonous berries(毒梅).She thinks it's better for her baby to die than to lose freedom."
Since then I 15any living animal in a cage. All living things have a right to live free.
In a far-away place, there was a village. The village was1 in potatoes than anywhere else in the country. At the end of every growing season, 2potatoes were dug out of the ground, and readied for market. In each home, men and women would3divide the potatoes into three groups, large, medium and small.
One year, there was a young man4received his share of the potatoes. As the other villagers5, he walked around the village laughing and talking.6villagers thought he was lazy, and they worried that this man would never get7potatoes ready in time. When it was time for the villagers8to market, they were greatly surprised to find that the man's potatoes9perfectly into three groups.
After 10the man how he did it, they understood he was not lazy, 11very clever. He had put all his potatoes in a cart and pulled it along the village's rough dirt road. As the cart moved up and down over the road, the potatoes moved12. The small potatoes moved to the bottom, the larger potatoes rose to the top and the medium potatoes rested13 the middle.
Life14like this too. The rough roads we travel along can also15us.
People can hardly believe that Fred Carey is one of the best students in his class. He1a trouble maker and often drove his teachers mad.
Fred's father died when he was just a 2 boy. Life became 3for him. His mother had to work to pay for his education. As a result, she was seldom at home. She tried to look4him well, but Fred caused a lot of problems for himself and his family. He had no 5 in studying and often got into trouble with the police. Luckily, his mother was very patient and didn't give up 6him. 7 the end, she made a difficult decision 8 him to a boy's boarding school. Fred hated it at first and caused even9 trouble. He told his teacher he wanted to leave the school. Even the teacher agreed that Fred was wasting his time.
The headmaster suggested that Fred should have a talk with his mother. "It was exactly10 I needed." he said. "My mother helped me understand how much she had given to me." She also told me that 11 my father was no longer with us, he was watching me and would always be proud of everything 12I had done. That's the time when I decided to change. I realized that since my father died, I had been afraid of being alone, and had tried to make my mother 13 more about me.
Now Fred has really changed. He has been working hard. How was he able to change? His mother's love helped him to feel 14about himself, and as Fred himself says, "15 very important for parents to be there for their children."

My favorite invention is the Internet. I have always been wondering who invented it and how it was invented.
the Internet, our life is much easier than before and the relationship between people is much closer. Whenever I have any problems, I will surf the Internet, my problems and wait for the answers. There are many kind people on the Internet that I usually get several answers to my questions.
People on the Internet help and learn from each other. A lot of people even form different groups, where they can share their joys and sorrows. People asked me if the Internet will still be used in the future. Of course, it will be. will it be used in the future, but also it will be developed much faster, better, stronger and more popular.

Yesterday. I received an email my pen friend Tom who is from the USA. He said that he learned Chinese well. He thought it was helpful to rend some good Chinese newspapers and magazines. In this way his reading ability was improved . Besides. Listening to Chinese songs was actually an interesting and effective way to learn Chinese. He also mentioned that he tried to speak Chinese as much as in daily life and wasn't afraid of making mistakes. He kept writing diaries in Chinese, too. I think his Chinese learning ways are the same as those of our English learning. I suggest that he should do more reading in Chinese watch some classical Chinese movies and Chinese people. I hope all of us can be his pen friends, too. Then we can communicate with each other on learning languages. |

Lisa was a single mother who lived with her little son. She lost her job two years ago and they had a very hard life. Being poor was terrible. Her heart was broken every time her son asked, "Can I have some1bread and jam please, Mommy?"
One day, when her son asked the same question again, she decided to prepare 2 big meal for him with the only 6 dollars in her hand. She went to the supermarket, bought some food and cooked at home. Lisa was a shy mother, 3 she was strong-minded (意志坚强的)."4 is time to make a change," she thought. She used to love writing. In order to make some money, she began to write articles for magazines day and night.
Things went 5. The local food bank started to provide her 6 some free vegetables every month. Her son finally had enough to eat. Once he told Lisa that the dishes she made were delicious. 7, an idea came to Lisa's mind, "Why not share my recipes(食谱)on the Internet?" She did. Many people liked her recipes and she became popular.
Soon after that, some reporters interviewed her and asked her to write a book on 8. When Lisa got the money for the book she wrote, she had a good sleep for the 9 night during the two years. Now, Lisa has a well-paid job and a beautiful home, but she'll 10forget the days when she worked hard for a good life.
Last Sunday our school had a great1show. I thought Eliza was 2 of all. She's3excellent piano player. My good friend Lily thought Steve and his dog4the funniest, because all the teachers and students couldn't stop5. Our English teacher thought Vera was6in the talent show because few people could play the guitar upside down. Dennis performed a ball game, but I thought he was7of all. He was terrible! He kept8the balls. At last, our9sang a song. They were the loudest10sure.
Sam and his friend Bob, both 5, entered a painting competition. Bob won! Sam felt blue and left1.
As soon as Sam2home, he told papa, "I worked hard on my picture. I made it the best I could. I wanted to win. "
"You did work hard," said papa. "3is a fine picture. I'll hang it in my office. "Mama gave Sam a hug and said, "I hope you congratulated Bob."
Sam shook his head, "Bob was too busy getting his photo taken." Then he went to his room. He sulked(生闷气). He didn't feel like doing anything. Some time later, he got very4. He wondered what Bob was doing. He remembered the fun they had, painting their pictures together.
He decided to do something,5he took out some paper and his painting set. He painted another picture, one6a ship in it. He knew Bob loved ships.
Under the ship, he printed in big red7: C-O-N-G-R-A-T-U-L-A-T-I-O-N-S! That was the biggest word he knew.
That afternoon, Sam walked to Bob's house and gave Bob the8.
"Thanks," said Bob. "I love ships. What's the9word?"
"Congratulations, "said Sam.
"Wow! Thanks again," said Bob. "This is much better than getting my photo taken."
And happily they went to ride bikes together. Friendship is much better than10, isn't it?
Do you ever feel like your home is just too full of stuff? There are professionals who can help you-they're called" decluttering consultants" (收纳整理师).
They go through people's homes and1them on what they should or should not be holding onto. Takumi Kawahara Kondo (近藤麻理惠), the Japanese author of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up (《怦然心动的人生整理魔法》), is2the best-known decluttering consultant.
This interesting profession (职业) is taking off in China, too. Wang Zehu, who works3a decluttering consultant in Shanghai, found her hands full during the
COVID-19 pandemic. "Many people have hoarded (囤积)a lot of stuff, 4 hand sanitizer (洗手液), facial masks and cleaning products, which can cause a mess," she told China Daily.
Wang5the skill of home organizing from Kawahara in 2019 in New York. She was the only Chinese student there.
"Kawahara not only teaches us about the ways of 6, but also about finding joy in tidying. By tidying, we' re allowed to reorient (给..... 重新定位) ourselves; we're able to discover our 7 of value. I'd like to bring the positive sides of tidying up to Chinese people," Wang said.
Services are priced by the hour and the size of the area being decluttered. Charges can range from 200 to 500 yuan an hour. "We help people draw up plans for their home. We'll talk about 8 the home should be like after the tidying-up, what stuff they are willing to throw out and what they want to9, "Wang said.
Wang added that it's not just about cleaning your room. It's a way of improving 10 between people and their space. It's about education and bringing beauty and comfort into one's life.
Travelling is a special kind of adventure. Last summer, I began one of my1 adventures of a lifetime. I moved from a tiny city in England to Beijing, the capital of China. As the plane landed in Beijing, I felt 2 I finally arrived after months of planning! One of the first things I did was to visit one of the city's hutongs. Walking around the hutongs, the warm air was filled with the smell of delicious food. I was very surprised3 that many people were riding their oldfashioned tricycles (老式三轮脚踏车). Just at this time, I thought, "Wow, I'm in China. "
Beijing is very different from my home city, Preston. Preston has only one shopping street and 4Sundays, all the shops close at 4:00 p. m. There isn't much choice if I want to eat out, 5. As a fan of food, I couldn't wait to see what Beijing can 6 . But after I have tasted so 7kinds of food here, I still don't have a favorite dish yet. I am still8 looking for my favorite through the city's restaurants. The trip to Beijing is worth taking. In the future, I will go to many9parts of China. I hope I can travel from one place to another, taking photos and meeting new people along the way. 10adventure in China is only just beginning, and I wonder how it will be.

It was the early autumn of my2year at a new school. No one knew me. I was very lonely, and afraid3friends with anyone, Every time I heard the other students4, I felt even more lonely. I could not talk to anyone about my problem, and I did not want my parents to worry about5.
One day, my classmates were talking with their friends happily, 6 l sat there quietly. At that moment, a girl came into the classroom. I didn't know who she was. She passed me and then 7 back. She looked at me and, without a word, smiled.
Suddenly, I felt the touch of something bright and friendly. It made me8and warm. That smile changed my life. 1 started to talk with the other students. And the girl9the bright smile became my best friend.
