    April 27 is a special day in Britain. It's called Take Our Daughter to Work Day. It was brought to Britain in 1994 from America. STEP 1: Talk with everyone you meet for the first time: Waiters, people you're standing in line with, neighbors and kids. Make yourself get into small talk situations: Doctors' waiting rooms, parties and bus stops.

STEP 2: Read everything: Cookbooks, newspapers, 1 magazines, maps and signs. Everything gives you information that you can talk about with others. Look for topics about everything: Television, music, sports, fashion and art. All of them are good topics for a talk.

STEP 3: Talk to yourself in the mirror: See what you have to say on the subjects, baseball, Russia, butter, shoes .Make a list of them. The more different, the better. Write down things that interest you: Funny stories you hear, beautiful things you see, shopping lists and calls you made.

STEP 4: Be a better listener: Did your co-worker just say she took her vacation in Europe? Did your neighbor just have twins? These are chances (机会) for making a small talk.

STEP 5: Try something new every day: Go home a new way. Try new food. Go online. All these give you active ideas and, more important, an active lifestyle.

Believe in yourself. The more you know, the more you can talk about.

In May 2001, I found a job in New York at the World Trade Center. On September 11, 2001, I arrived at my building at around 8:30 a.m. I was about to go up when I decided to get a coffee first. Independence Day is a national holiday in America. Similar to other summer-themed events, Independence Day celebrations often take place outdoors. Many politicians(政治家)make it a point on this day to appear at a public event to praise the nationals, the nation's laws, history, society and people.

Earlier this year, a national ban(禁令)on mobile phone use was passed . According to it, both primary and middle school students are not allowed to bring mobile phones to school. According to the Ministry of Education, the main aim of the ban is to protect students eyesight and. prevent them from getting addicted (上瘾) to the Internet and video games.

The report found mobile phone users in this group used their phones mostly for online learning, listening to music and playing games.

The Ministry of Education also says that teachers are not allowed to ask students to finish homework on mobile phones. Schools should set up more public pay phones and find other ways of talking to parents.

The new ban appears to be widely supported. In a survey on Weibo, 54% of more than 1900 people who took part in the survey said they believed it was unnecessary for school children to take mobile phones to school; more than a quarter wanted a more flexible policy(灵活的政策) with 20% saying mobile phones should be allowed in school .

Here in China, Tree-planting Day comes on March 12 every year. This special day began in 1979. After we plant trees, we must take care of the trees by watering them until they grow up to be strong. In different countries, Tree-planting Days are on different days.

BLACK FRIDAY

You probably know about Singles Day (November 11) in China. On this day, people usually stay up very late at night to shop online in order to a lot of money. Well, the US has something similar called Black Friday.

Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving. Last year it fellNovember 29th.  It's the start of the holiday shopping season and most people don't have to go to work that day. So they start to think about what gifts they want tofor Christmas.

While Singles Day is usually for online, a lot of shopping on Black Friday is done at actual stores. Shoppers look for things especially on electronic products, as televisions, computers and video game systems. These things usually haveprices, but on this day, a few of them are sold at the very low sale prices. So people often fight over these things.

Some people will in line for hours before midnight when stores finally open. People camp out in the cold and sometimes get hurt the doors are opened and people rush in.
