Some of you may play Ant Forest. It is a game on Alipay(支付宝). Users collect “energy” to make their "trees” grow. When the “energy” reaches a certain level, some organizations(组织) and companies will plant a real tree in a desert(沙漠) area of China. And now it seems that our country has made the world a greener place for people all over the world.
A study by NASA(美国航空航天局) in February showed that China and India have made the Earth greener over the past two years. The study has found that since 2000 the Earth's green leaf area has increased(增加) by over 5 million square kilometers. That's the same size as the total area of the Amazon(亚马逊) rainforest. It is mostly the result of big tree-planting programs in China and intensive agriculture(集约化农业) in both countries, according to NASA.
“China and India have only 9% of the planet's land area covered in vegetation(陆地植被面积), but they did one third of the increased greening for the whole world." Chi Chen, the study's lead author(作者) and a researcher(研究员)at Boston University, US, told CNN(美国有线电视新闻网). China was the major contributor(主要贡献者), adding 25% to this increase, while India added 6.8%.
Over the past ten years, China has done something great to green the land. In 1978, China began a national forestation project(植树造林工程). It is also known as the“Great Green Wall". The program has seen many trees planted in thirteen provinces in northern China to act as windbreaks, according to China Daily.
With China's success in dealing with forestation, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP联合国环境规划署) believes China is a good example for others to follow.“China is one of the most successful countries in greening the desert and has lessons to share with the world," UNEP Executive Director Erik Solheim(执行主任埃里克索尔海)told Xinhua.
Students who get tired of looking at the four walls of a classroom might like to take the nature course being offered by Carvel College again this summer. Groups of about a dozen students each, led by an experienced guide, will go on ten -day camping trips to the mountains to study the plants and animals that grow and live there.
Students carry their own things which include sleeping bags, warm clothing, food and water, and other useful tools. And what do the students do all day? Well, as soon as the sun comes up, they eat breakfast and start climbing up the mountain trail (小路) to the next campground, which five to ten miles away. The students take notes when the guide points out different plants and animals alongside the trail. The climb is usually over by early afternoon, so the group spends the rest of the day resting or swimming in a mountain lake. Before dinner each night, they all come together and discuss the day's activities.
At the end of the course, the students write reports using the information they have collected. But they don't mind at all. What they do mind is leaving the beauty of the wilderness (荒地) and the good friends they've made to return to their normal lives in the city.

Thailand Literacy Program
Omkoi is one of the mountainous areas in Thailand. It is an area of (北方的) Thailand. There are neither schools (也没有) libraries there and people cannot read or write. The government of Thailand hopes to change that with a program. It (包括) bringing books to the villages.
A number of these villages can be reached only on foot, and there is always a very long rainy (季节) in Thailand. So how do the villagers get books that they need most, especially (在……期间) the rainy days? Of course, teams of (大象)!
Now there are several teams carrying books in Omkoi. They spend almost a month covering (七) or eight villages. These special teams make it possible to provide education for almost two thousand people in Omkoi.
In Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, there's a program called "Train Library for Young People", The train serves the homeless children on the (街道). Years ago, the railway police of Bangkok realized that those children (真正地) needed a good place for learning and they began to act immediately. Now they have cleaned up and (修理) some old railway cars. These cars are turned into libraries for the children.
In Germany (德国), if children want to ride bikes by themselves on the road, they have to pass a test. The test is quite like our driving test.
First, the students have 30 classes about how to ride bikes safely on the road. Each student has a book. The book tells them how to keep safe on the road, how to keep others safe and what to do if they get hurt. Here is a picture from the book. It tells the students the right way to turn left.
After the classes, the students will have two written tests. Then, they will do some riding practice at school. Some policemen will come to give them some help.
At last, the students will have a test on the road. If they can pass the test, they can get a bike license (执照) . Then they can ride on the road.
We all know German people are very careful. We can see this from their riding test for the students. The students learn useful riding skills, and at the same time, they learn the spirit (精神) of the country.
① Have classes about riding bikes. ② Have a test on the road.
③ Have two written tests. ④ Do some riding practice at school.

Have you ever heard about Black Friday and Cyber Monday? Surely, they are all about finding the best deals on holiday gifts for yourself and family members. And have you heard about Giving Tuesday? Here is something about it.
GivingTuesday is celebrated on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving every year, which encourages people to help those in need by raising money-or doing good in their local community. GivingTuesday was started in 2012 by New York City Nonprofit and the United Nations Foundation. :
Unlike Black Friday, GivingTuesday serves a more selfless purpose. In its first year, the movement brought in almost $10 million for charities, and things have only improved since then. In 2019, many, GivingTuesday social media activities helped raise an amazing $ 1. 9 billion from 27 million people who are kind. l Over the past five years, many higher education schools have also been using the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to ask graduates for donations*. In 2019, the University of Michigan received 5887 gifts which are about over $4 million in total, while Pennsylvania State University raised $710, 000 to been fit over 85 university programs.
Donating money certainly helps, and there are many other ways to support the great project, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. You can use videos to help kids study online, of team up with an adult to get groceries or medications for an elderly neighbor. Besides, call on your friends to help you with a. service project, or pick one from the several ideas suggested, on the GivingTuesday website. You can also donate your gently-used clothes and toys to local shelters.
What are you going to do to make a positive difference in your community on GivingTiesday? Let us know by adding your opinions bellow.
Do you want to be a volunteer? Maybe you need some ideas. Here is some advice.
Help kids learn and grow. Be a big brother or sister at an after-school care center. You can help little kids to learn or play with them.
Give back during the holidays. Serve dinner to the homeless, volunteer at an old people's home, or give out toys to kids.
Help at an animal shelter (庇护所). Most shelters depend on (依靠) volunteers to keep the cats and dogs happy and take them to exercise. And when you're walking dogs, you get some exercise, too.
Protect (保护) the environment. Take part in a park clean-up day. Plant a tree. Join a group to work together to protect a river.
Help sick people. Helping others can make you feel good. When you cheer sick people up, you also feel happy. If you have several hobbies, find a way to do them all. For example, if you love kids and are good at painting and dancing, visit a children's hospital and teach them these interesting things.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Thank you for coming to attend the graduation ceremony. First of all, I'd like to congratulate all the students who are here (今天). When you were just starting Grade 7 at this school, you were all so energetic and thirsty for knowledge. But now I see a room (满的) of talented young adults who have great hope for the future. You (长大) up already and I'm so proud of you.
Although you've all worked very hard over the last three years, none of you could have succeeded by (你们自己). Along the way, I'm sure many people have helped and supported you. I'd like you (记得,想起)to thank all of these important people in your lives. Never fail to be thankful to the people around you.
Lastly, the end of junior high school is the beginning of a new life. I don't need to tell you that life in senior high school will be (困难的,辛苦的)and that you have more trouble ahead of you.
You'll make (错误) along the way, but the key is to learn from them and never give up. But along with trouble, there will also be many exciting things waiting for you. (在……后面)each door you open are chances to learn new things, and you have the (能力,才能)to make your own choices. Choose wisely and be responsible for your decisions and actions. Although you have to go your separate ways now, (无论何时) you want, you can come back. As you set out on your new journey, you shouldn't forget where you came from. The future is yours.
Good luck and hope to see you again soon sometime!

Chinese pianist Lang Lang joined in an online global concert on April 18th this year.

"It is one of the most important experiences in my life. It has made me a part of music history. I feel proud to do what I can do for fighting the virus," said the pianist. "I do think good music can unite the world and give people power."
The event, curated by Lady Gaga and organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the nonprofit group Global Citizen, is the biggest effort the stars have done. It is to mark COVID-19 that has killed more than 400,000 people worldwide so far.
The two-hour online concert began at 8 pm US Eastern Time on April 18. Before that, a six-hour online pre-telecast show began at 2 pm. Many famous artists including Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Victoria Beckham and many other Chinese stars including Lang Lang, Jacky Cheung and Eason Chan took part in the event.
"We are forever thankful for what the healthcare workers have done to keep us healthy and safe." said the artists.
"Without the CPC, there would be no new China." It's a beautiful song that many of us learned when we were kids. But it was not until the COVID-19 outbreak that I learned the real meaning of this song.
During the COVID-l9 pandemic, China's measures(措施) have proven effective(有效的)across the world, thanks to the CPC and a large number of Party members behind it.
My aunt Zhang, who works for an airline company has set a good example to me as a Party member. In order to stop the worldwide spread(传播) of COVID-19, a lot of countries cut off lights to China, which mean that many Chinese travelers were stuck abroad. To ensure (保证) their safety. the CPC asked the Party branch (分支) of my aunt's company to send special planes to bring them back. Before long, 400 airline worker handed in petitions(请愿书) saying they were willing(愿意的) to do the job, including my aunt.
I once asked her," Don't you feel afraid?" She replied with smile." Yes and no. Not being worried is impossible, but as a Party member, we need to step forward bravely " I understood that it is the dedication(奉献), selflessness(无私),and persistence(坚持) of the CPC that has led China to make huge achievement through thick and thin(历尽千辛万苦). I hope I can also be a Party member when I grow up.
No one goes hungry
Many schools in the US are still closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Some students are worried about keeping up their studies. But students in the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) system are also worried about their meals.
More than 75 percent of the 355, 000 CPS students come from poor families. They rely on school for their meals. Each school year, CPS usually gives free breakfast, lunch and after school snacks for all students. But now their schools are closed. What will poor students eat?
Luckily, CPS is able to give food some students with a special meal program funded (资助)by the government during the pandemic. They open meal sites (站点) (即取餐包)to students. The kits have enough food to last three days. Since their schools closed, CPS has given out more than 21 million meals, executive director of nutritional support services for CPS.
There were around 277 meal sites in the area through spring and summer, In the fall semester, more than 450 sites we are open for meals. Parents could pick up meal kits at these sites without showing any proof (证据)
"Our goal is to feed…not scrutinize (审查)none of that kind of ask all these questions, "Cooper said.
While benefiting from the program, CPS students have also shown their own gratitude (感激之情).
"We depend on the school heavily for food," one student wrote on Twitter. "We feel warm and thankful to get meals at home."
Recently, Chongqing Three Gorges University has held an activity named "Cell Phone Ninja"(手机忍者). They would like their students not to use cell phones for 21 days. It is really a challenge for most students. The activity started on April 12. Each student who volunteered to take part in this activity got a bracelet( 手 环 ). If the students did not use their cell phones, there would be a photo on the screen of the bracelet to show that. If they used their cell phones, a different photo would appear on the screen of the bracelet. After the last class of each day, the students sent the photos to the school's public We Chat. More than 800 students wished to take part in this test, and 400 were chosen. After seven days, only 103 students remained. The test was set for 21 days because some scientists believe that 21 days is long enough to help form a habit. According to the teachers in the university, the activity was not a contest. It depended on students themselves to make the decision. The teacher hoped their students could form better study habits through activities like this one.
csomething new and difficult which requires great effort and determination
fto being to develop
If the students did not use their cell phones, there would be a photo on the screen of the bracelet to show that.

In some places, many people like to stay at home during the holidays. Some of them work in their garden or visit their friends. Some read books or watch TV at home. Many families like to go out for a picnic. They often take their lunch to a park or hill far from the city. They would like to have lunch under some trees or near a nice pool. If they live near the sea, they often go there to swim or to enjoy the sun.
Some people also like travelling. They think travelling and outdoor activities are parts (部分)of their lives. They work hard to save money for their travelling. Most students like to go camping(野营).There are many places of interest. They have many interesting activities. They can swim, fish, have classes and so on.
Chengdu has dozens of new millionaires, Asia's biggest building, and fancy new hotels. But for tourists like me, pandas are its top (attract).
So it was a great honor (invite) backstage at the not-for-profit Panda Base, where ticket money helps pay for research, I could get up close to these cute animals at the 600-acre centre. From tomorrow, I will be their UK ambassador. The title will be (official) given to me at a ceremony in London. But my connection with pandas dates back my days on a TV show in the mid-1980s, I was the first Western TV reporter (allow) to film a special unit caring for pandas rescued from starvation in the wild. My ambassadorial duties will include (introduce) British visitors to the 120-plus pandas at Chengdu and others at a research in the misty mountains of Bifengxia.
On my recent visit, I help a lively three-month-old twin that had been rejected by (it) mother. The nursery team switches him every few (day) with his sister so that while one is being bottle-fed, other is with mum-she never suspects.

C. First Children's Home welcomes students who are kind and careful. We hope you will enjoy sharing your love and joy with the lonely children.
D. Sunshine Pets Centre is looking for volunteers to help look after the pets. It will be better if you have experience of keeping pets. You will also learn a lot about keeping pets here.
E. Exercise Together needs an assistant (助理) to guide people to exercise. But you must love sports and be patient with people.
F. A lot of volunteers are needed for the Leeds Festival. It is a large music festival that will be held at the end of August. Many singers will take part in it and thousands of fans will be there. So we need you.
"Hey, how are you doing? I'm Courtney. What grade are you in? What's your favourite book? Elephant and Piggy? Yeah, I got it."
If you think you have walked into a library with a 1 like that, you are exactly wrong. 2, you've entered the workplace of Courtney Holmes, known as the Storybook Barber (理发师).
Two years ago, his small town held its first yearly Back to School Party, offering needy families a 3 to learn about free resources in the community. Holmes, a warm-hearted barber agreed to take part. Though he was very busy, he choose to donate his 4 to give free haircuts to needy kids so that they'd look tidy on that first chose to donate his day of school. Suddenly, a(n) 5 went through his mind, "The kids should go on getting their free 6 by having to read a book to me."
The idea was so 7 that he continued it for the next two years. Kids aged 5-10 would grab a favourite book, sit in the barber chair, and 8 while Holmes snipped (剪). If they stuttered (结结巴巴) over a word, Holmes was there to 9.
After the haircut, they'd 10 the books, from the characters and vocabulary to the themes — just like in school, only more fun. Holmes realized that not every 11 had the time to read with their kids. He had a talk with his neighbour Mr. Smith, "You have four kids, and you are so 12 that sitting down and listening to them read is the last thing you have time to do. Just bring in your kids and let them read to 13."
Holmes added, "I, too, 14 the free snip-and-reads. Last month, there was a seven-year-old boy, Bob, who tried hard to read through his book, stuttering over words, and then I asked the boy to take the book home and practice. 15 the kid came back a few days later, he read it with no problems. That inspires (鼓舞) me," said Holmes.
We all know that running is good for our healthy. Have you ever thought that running is also good for the planet? Sometimes a creative mind can bring us a win-win situation.
