There was an old man known as the Foolish Old Man (Yu Gong). His house was in the big mountains. Two big mountains stood in front of his house. Every day, when he went to the farm, he had to take a lot of time to get out of the mountains.
One day, Yu Gong called all his family together to talk about how to move the two mountains to other places. Then they began to break rocks and dig earth. They carried the rocks and earth in baskets to the seaside of Bohai.
Later the Heavenly God, upon learning of Yu Gong's story, was greatly touched. He then ordered another god to come down and take the two high mountains away.
