阅读理解"Are you OK, Cassie?" Jonah asked, from the doorway of the Sea Holly Café. Cassie had been sitting on a chair outside for the past 10 minutes, but not really taking in the beauty of the sea. "Oh, I should be getting back to work. "She rose hurriedly. "We're not busy, take your time. "Jonah came with a cappuccino for her. "Thanks. "She accepted the coffee, "Everything's fine. "Then Jonah nodded, revealing a comforting smile, and went back inside. He was a great boss, but Cassie didn't feel like telling him what was wrong. Cassie had gone to study fine art hopefully but dropped out after only a year due to the unbearable homesickness. Since then, she hadn't touched her paints for a whole year. Today was doomed to be a sad date, the anniversary of her exciting plans turning to dust. She felt a crushing sense of disappointment. In her painting, she had captured a good likeness of the cloudy sky and the reflection of the dying light upon the water, but the picture did have a sad, dreary(沉闷的)quality. About 20 minutes later, she was shocked by a voice at her shoulder, "That's beautiful. " Cassie turned, and there was a woman wearing a blue coat. The woman eyed it again. "You have talent, but there is much sadness in it, for one so young. "Cassie's eyes were filled with tears. "My name's Willow, "the woman said kindly, "Why not try painting the sunrise instead, my dear? You might find it helps. " With Willow's words echoing in her brain, Cassie rose an hour earlier the next day, caught a bus to the beach and began to paint again. When she finished, Jonah was just opening up. He picked the painting up and appreciated it at eye height. "Hey, this is good. It's really…"For a moment he struggled for the word, then found it and turned to her, beaming, "Optimistic!" In her picture the sun was powering into the sky, casting a clear, golden pathway across the sea.

阅读理解Look at your modern TV, and you see nothing less than a technological miracle. Scientists began experimenting with the concept of television more than a century ago. But decades would pass before it was brought to the public at the 1939 World's Fair. More time passed before TV sets were in stores—and even then, it took a while until most people had one. During the 1950s, TVs were expensive, screens were small and the picture wasn't always clear. Moreover, early programs were in black and white; color wasn't in wide use until the mid-1960s. Viewers didn't have a lot of choice, either. Instead of hundreds of channels to choose from, most cities offered only three or four. Early TVs worked with the use of analog (模拟的) signals. Here's how they worked:Using a giant transmission tower, the local television station sent those waves through the air. Antennas on the roofs of buildings and homes received those waves and transported the signal to the television sets inside. By 2009,TV stations replaced analog signals with digital signals, which is the standard used today. Modern digital TV uses different information streams. For example, one stream is for the picture; another stream is for the audio. Pictures are created by basic units called pixels (像素). Your screen has tens of thousands of pixels. Basically, three colors—red, blue and green—form other colors in various combinations, and the picture is created from all the pixels together. Groups of bits are formed into larger units called bytes (字节),which are the link between the content you're watching and your TV. Your digital smart TV has an interface that allows you to control all the functions. Basically, a smart TV is a computer, large monitor and receiver all in one package. In the future, there will be more functions equipped in your cellphone and TV and thus offer you more choices. Whether the TV will be a screen for your cellphone is up to you.

阅读理解At the United Nations COP27 climate conference in Egypt, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres claimed that the world is on a "highway to climate hell with our foot still on the accelerator (油门)". To keep temperature from rising 1.5 degrees Celsius above preindustrial levels by 2100,we need to pull a stop on greenhouse gas emissions. In fact, we'd basically have to bring the runaway truck to a complete and immediate stop. Now is the time for us to pull back before it is too late. The climate pledges (承诺) made by nations at last year's COP26 conference felt like a positive step in the right direction, but there's very little doubt that the average temperature rise on Earth will pass the 1.5-degree mark in the coming decades. Can we limit this overshoot? And how might we do that? A study, released Thursday in the scientific journal Nature Climate Change, tried to answer those questions by modeling 27 different emissions reduction pathways of varying ambition. It came to an unsurprising conclusion:Countries need to act by increasing the ambition of their climate pledges. And they need to act now. The 1.5-degree rise has long been seen as a critical mark in the fight against climate change. Since the signing of the Paris Agreement at COP21 seven years ago, scientists have studied how this level of warming above preindustrial temperatures would affect the Earth. The models they've built show we are likely to see more extreme weather events, in addition to glacial melt, sea level rise that threatens many low-lying Pacific nations and significant loss of biodiversity once temperatures push past an increase of 1.5 degrees. Though the 1.5-degree target is practically dead, the situation isn't hopeless. Now more than ever, there's reason to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by setting more ambitious goals. However, ambition alone is not enough. We also need action — investing in renewables and technologies like carbon capture and rapidly transforming our energy systems.

语法填空When Lan Guijun was born in Chengdu, Sichuan province, in 1965,the steamed Chinese cabbage in supreme soup, one of most famous local dishes, had already made a name in China. Now, with over four decades' experience of cooking Sichuan cuisine, Lan still makes the soup the traditional way and uses it in his signature dish, golden thread noodles. The dough(面团) used to make the noodles is mixed with egg yolks (give) them a golden color. Lan sits on top of a long piece of bamboo, under which sits the dough. He adds his (weigh) to the bamboo to ensure the dough is flattened paper-thin. "This noodle dish has around 200 years of history. Gold thread noodles (originate) in Henan province and then was spread to Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, before reaching Sichuan, " Lan says, (add) that the noodle dish changed a little bit as it moved, adapting to local habits. In Sichuan, local chefs add the best soup to the noodle, in chicken is boiled for eight hours before being filtered to make it nearly as clear as water. " In Sichuan cuisine, we can (easy) find the traces of many other cuisines, those from Shandong, Shanxi provinces and Zhejiang (include),because Sichuan is an inclusive place with many migrants from other (part) of the country, " he says. |

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所松极落正头讲续写两段,使之构成福完整的短文。Only eight days until Thanksgiving and there wasn't going to be enough money to buy the necessary things for the holiday. I promised my three sons that we'd love a nice family dinner in our new home, unlike the prior year when we canceled Thanksgiving to deal with the loss of their father. It was hard to put everyday food on the table for three growing boys with the little I earned from work, but I promised a good meal. We looked forward to a day of good eating! But there was only enough bread in the house, two chicken breasts and a few other things. The next day, I met my friend and neighbor, Aleta, at her home. Her four boys and my kids were good friends. Her husband had recently lost his job due to illness, and they suffered financial difficulties as well. We stood there talking about our coming Thanksgiving dinner, and agreed to make a Thanksgiving feast together. Then children of the two families headed out and found a few neighbors who helped them earn enough to purchase most of the items they set out for, except the turkey. Four days before Thanksgiving, I managed to buy a turkey and finished baking the cookies. My friend called with news about a family living in our community who needed help with food and bills. The father had been in an accident and unable to work for the last few months. We didn't know the family well, but my friend and I went to visit them with our holiday cookies, hoping to help in some way. In no time, her kids ate the cookies. While everyone chatted. I went into their kitchen. The cupboards were almost bare. I was shocked. Aleta and I left the house, desperately wanting to help. Without a word, we looked at each other, asking ourselves the same question. Could we sacrifice a little more and give the family our holiday meal? 注意: 1)续写词数应为150左右; 2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 My eight-year-old summed up perfectly the reason we needed to share our meal. …… Early the next morning, we were able to deliver two full bags of groceries to our neighbors. |
