Twenty years ago, I drove a taxi for a living. One early morning, I1 a call for a taxi. When I arrived at the building, it was 2:30 a.m. and I found the building was dark except for the only light in a first floor window. Many drivers would just shout once or twice and then drove away, but I thought this 2 might need my help. So I walked to the door and knocked, “Just a minute,” answered a3, elderly voice. After a long time, the door opened. A small old man showed up before me,4a small bag. He kept thanking me for my5. “It's nothing,” I told him. “Oh, you're such a good man.” He said. When we arrived,12 without thinking, I gave him a big hug. “You gave an old man a little moment of13. Thank you!” He said with tears in his eyes. You never said “I'm leaving” In Life I loved you dearly You never said “goodbye” In death I love you still You were gone before I knew it In my heart you hold a place And only God knew why That no one could ever fill There are no words to tell you It broke my heart to lose you Just what I feel inside But you didn't go alone The shock, the hurt, the anger For part of me went with you Might gradually subside (平息) The day God took you home Thousands of times I'll need you Things will never be the same Thousands of times I'll cry And although it hurts so bad If Love alone could have saved you I will smile whenever I hear your name You never would have died And take pride you were my dad In death I love you still In my heart you hold a place, That no one could ever fill It broke my heart to lose you, But you didn't go alone For part of me went with you, The day God took you home. Things will never be the same And although it hurts so bad I will smile whenever I hear your name And take pride you were my dad.

For centuries, the body's blood has been connected closely with the feelings. People who show no human emotions or feelings are said to be cold-blooded. Cold can affect other parts of the body. But the expression ―get cold feet‖ has nothing to do with cold or your feet. The expression means being afraid to do something you have decided to do. For example, you agree to be CEO of a company. But then you learn that all the other officers have resigned (辞职), and all the work of the company will be your responsibility (责任). You are likely to get cold feet about being CEO when you understand the situation. The expression “give someone the cold shoulder” probably comes from the physical act of turning your back toward someone, instead of speaking to him face to face. You may give the cold shoulder to a friend who has not kept a promise (遵守诺言) he made to you, or to someone who has lied about you to others. “A cold fish”is not a fish. It is a person. But it is a person who is unfriendly, unemotional and shows no love or warmth. A cold fish does not offer much of himself to anyone. Someone who is a cold fish could be cold-hearted. He or she will never feel sorry for those in bad situation. “Out in the cold” means not getting something that everybody else got. A person might say that everybody but him got a pay raise—he was left out in the cold. And it is not a pleasant place to be.

Is your TV connected to the Internet? What about your chair, or your fridge? Probably they are not. But in the future, most things in your home may be connected, thanks to the so-called “Internet of things”. The Internet of things may be coming sooner than you think. Earlier this year, Samsung CEO spent a lot of time talking about the Internet things. He said that four years from now, every Samsung product will be part of the Internet of things, no matter whether it's a remote control or a washing machine. So, how do household objects that are part of the Internet of things work? Well, think of a common chair. When connected to the Internet, the chair warms up when it knows the user has just walked into the room and is feeling cold. An Internet-connected camera could help people feel safer in their homes. It can know people's faces and has an infrared sensor(红外传感器), so even if it's dark it can see when someone passes by and send you a message on your smartphone to let you know who's there. If the person is someone you don't know, it can tell you that, too. But according to MIT Technology Review, whether companies are connecting dog food bowls or security(安全)systems to the Internet, there may be some problems. For example, many early connected-home objects don't have much built-in security, which means they could be hacked. Moreover, it could be difficult to get these new machines to work together especially when they are made by different companies. To fight this, many companies have joined the Open Interconnect Consortium, which had 45 members by late 2015. So, picture this: you enter your home. The temperature changes to make you feel comfortable. Your favorite music starts playing for you. Do you think that this would be a good thing? It may happen sooner than you think.

Do you want to cure all the diseases in the world? It seems like an impossible job, but Priscilla Chan is trying really hard to achieve it. Chan is a 32-year-old woman from the United States. Many people may know her as the wife of Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook. But Chan herself has done a lot to help people. Chan and Zuckerberg said in September they would give out $3 billion(20 billion yuan) in the next 10 years to help deal with all of the world's diseases. As a doctor, Chan was a big driver in this decision. “We hope that all of our children can live long and healthy lives in the future,” she said. Besides health, Chan also cares about children's education. Before becoming a doctor, Chan taught science to fourth and fifth graders at a school in California for a year. This year she started a project called The Primary School. It provides education for children from kindergarten to the twelfth grade. Chan herself knows how important education is to a child. She has a Chinese father and a Vietnamese mother. Her parents didn't receive much education. But they worked hard to make sure Chan and their other two daughters would have the best opportunities. Chan went to Harvard University in 2003 and now works as a doctor. “ I realized that I was so lucky to be what I was,” said Chan. “so now, I will try my best to help others. I hope they can also have their opportunities to reach their dreams and be what they would like to be.”
