    Many people like to travel by car. You can make your own timetable. You can travel three or four hundred miles or only fifty: or one hundred miles a day, just as you like. You can stop wherever you wish where there is something interesting to see, at a good restaurant where you can enjoy a good meal, or at a hotel to spend the night. That is why traveling by car is popular for pleasure trips, while people usually take a train or plane; when they travel on business.

    Now satellites(卫星)are helping to forecast(预报)the weather. They are in space and they can reach any part of the world.The satellites take pictures of the atmosphere(大气), because this is where the weather forms(形成). They send these pictures to the weather station. So meteorologists(气象专家)can see the weather of any part of the world. From the pictures, the scientists can often say how the weather will change.

    Today, nearly five hundred weather stations in sixty countries receive satellite pictures. When they receive new pictures, the meteor- ologists compare(比较)them with earlier ones. Perhaps they may find that the clouds have changed during the last few hours .This may mean the weather on the ground may soon change, too. In their next weather forecast, the meteorologists can say this.

    So the weather satellites are a great help to the meteorologists. Before satellites were invented, the scientists could forecast the weather for about 24 or 48 hours. Now they can make good forecasts for 3 or 5 days. Soon, perhaps , they may be able to forecast the weather for a week or more ahead(提前)

    One day Tom and Bill went out for a walk. On the road they saw a lot of people and went up to have a look. Oh dear! There was a cow in the middle of the road. It would not move. The cars and buses couldn't get past. Then a policeman came.

    "Whose cow is this?" He asked. "It's mine," said a farmer, "but I can't move it."

    The policeman and the farmer did their best to move the cow, but it would not move.

    Tom and Bill laughed, but the drivers of cars and buses were worried." We can't move the cow, "the farmer and the policeman said. "What shall we do?"

    "Give him a cabbage!" Tom said. "That's a good idea." said the farmer. Soon he found a cabbage and showed it to the cow. When the cow saw the cabbage, it walked after the farmer at once. All the cars and buses could get past at last.

    It is Saturday tomorrow, but I am going to school. I am not going for lessons, (连词)to play football. I am in our school team and we are going to play (介词)another school next week. The practice starts at 10 am. We all arrive as early as we can so that we have time to warm up. We are training harder than usual because the other team (beat) us last year. This year we want to do better.

    It is more difficult to practice in winter because the days are short and (冠词)weather is cold, too. It gets dark earlier, so it is important not to be late for after-school (practise).

    It's true that you can learn new words when you read or listen, but you should also study new words seriously. Here are a few things I do:

    Make flash cards(识字卡)：(A) I find this is really the best way to learn new words. Make some small cards and write the new English word on one side and the word in your language or in easy English on the other side to test yourself. To really make this work, you have to review often (You need a system! ). I think this is the best method for learning English vocabulary.

    Make sentences with the new words: This is great if you can ask someone to check them. It's also great to make some really crazy sentences-that way you won't forget them! I also collect example sentences of the words I'm trying to learn if I see the word in a book, I write down the sentence.

    Make up a mnemonic：A mnemonic is a way to remember something, like a little story. For example, (B) 我在厨房的门上贴上单词 kitchen. The problem with this is that it works for a while but then you get used to the words and forget to read them!
