    Beijing Opera, also called Peking Opera, is our national opera. It came into being(形成)after 1790 and has a history of over 200 years. Its music and singing came from Xipi and Erhuang in Anhui and Hubei. The Guangxu Emperor (帝王) and Empress Dowager Cixi were also crazy about Beijing Opera and helped develop the art form.

    There are four main roles in Beijing Opera: Sheng, Dan, Jing, Chou. Sheng is the leading male(男性) actor. For example, a Wusheng is a soldier or fighter. A Xiaosheng is a young man. A Laosheng is an old man with beard(胡子). Dan is the female(女性)role. Jing, mostly male, is the face painted role and Chou is the comedy (喜剧)actor or clown(小丑).

    Beijing Opera is full of famous stories, beautiful facial paintings, wonderful gestures and fighting. Some of the stories are from history books, but most are from famous novels. The people in the stories usually can't agree with each other. They become angry, unhappy, sad and lonely. Sometimes they are afraid and worried. Then they find a way to make peace with(与......讲和) each other. Everyone is usually happy in the end.

    Beijing Opera is an important part of Chinese culture. In China it used to be popular with old people while young people didn't like it very much. Cartoon characters will be banned on some food

    Candy and chocolate companies in the UK may have to stop using cartoon characters on their products. The health groups said many food companies use characters from Peppa Pig and Disney on their packaging(包装).

    The health groups said 51 per cent of products using cartoon characters were unhealthy for children. The groups are asking the government to stop the use of these characters to sell unhealthy products to children.

      They are Action on Sugar, Action on Salt and the Children's Food Campaign. They noticed the nutrition(营养) content of 526 products that were aimed at children.  The Peppa Pig Candy Bites were among the worst products. These contained 99 per cent sugar. Dr Kather Hashem, an expert from the Action on Sugar group, said, "It's shocking that companies are exploiting the health of our children by using cartoon characters on their high-sugar food and drink products, especially on chocolates and sweets. "

    Health is important for us, so we should stay away from the rubbish food.

    Most 97-year-olds would probably feel rather good just getting out of bed in the morning. , 97-year-old John B. Goodenough just won the Nobel Prize in chemistry.

    On October 9th, 2019, Goodenough won the prize along with Stanley Whittingham and Akira Yoshino the development of lithium-ion (锂离子) batteries.

    It is thought to be very amazing that Arthur Ashkin won the Nobel Prize in physics at the age of 96. But now Goodenough is even than him and Arthur Ashkin becomes the oldest one.

    Goodenough was born in 1922 in Germany. He completed his doctor degree he was 30 at the University of Chicago and worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology after that. Later, he went to the University of Oxford, then at the University of Texas. And he works there now. It was at Oxford that Goodenough made the discovery that helped win the Nobel.

    Goodenough said that he thanked all his friends for their support because they helped him a lot in his life. He also said that he was very that the lithium-ion batteries helped communications around the world.

    Many people think that John B. Goodenough is one of the best in the world as his family name is "Goodenough". It's also thought that Goodenough deserved (应得) the prize.

    Goodenough says, "Some of us are like tortoises, walking and struggling all the way, but they can't find a way out in their early years. Bu tortoise knows that he has to go on."

    On May17, China launched a new satellite at the Xiehang Satellite Launch Center. It was the forty fifth Beidou satellite that China had sent into space.

    So what is Beidou? Beidou is a positioning system (定位系统). It by China. China is the third country in the world to have its own positioning system. By Beidou, China no longer has to depend on foreign systems. This is very important for national safety.

    Work on Beidou in 1994. However, the first two Beidou satellites were not sent into space until 2000. Since then, China has launched dozens of Beidou satellites. These satellites have formed a global net work. Now, China is further improving the system. It plans into the space ten more Beidou satellites. If everything well, Beidou will be completed before 2020.

    The completed Beidou more powerful than any other positioning system. Yang Changfeng is a designer of Beidou. He says the system the sway(摇摆) of a building in strong winds.

    So far, Beidou much benefit(福利) to our lives. In many cities, thousands of buses have been using Beidou. While we for a bus,we can know when it is about to come.

    Many smartphones have also been using Beidou. "Many people say,'Let me on GPS.,In fact, their phones are using Beidou,"jokes a salesperson in Beijing.

    Imagine mountains wrapped in silver water, shining in the spring sun. Summer sees the mountains turn bright green with growing rice. During autumn, these same mountains are gold, and in winter they are covered with white frost(霜). These are the colors of the Longji Rice Terraces(龙脊梯田).

    These terraces were built by the local Zhuang and Yao people. Guangxi is home to them. Starting in the Yuan Dynasty, work on the terraces took hundreds of years until it was completed in the early Qing Dynasty.

    So why did these people go to so much trouble to turn the mountains into terraces?

    Firstly, there are few large and flat areas in the region they built terraces to have more areas to grow rice.

    Secondly，although the region has plenty of rain, the mountains are（1） steep and the soil is （2） shallow. The flat terraces catch the rainwater and prevent the soil from being washed away.

    But perhaps what is most important is the way in which people have worked in harmony with( 和谐相处) nature to make these terraces and grow riee. The terraces are cleverly designed with hundreds of waterways that connect with each other. The rainwater moves down the mountains and into the terraces along the waterways. （3）These terraces also provide a perfect environment for birds and fish, they feed on insects that can harm the rice crops.

    Although modern technology could help produce more crops, these terraces still mean a lot to the local people for whom traditions hold much value. Today, the Longji Rice Terraces attract thousands of visitors every year.' They visit this great wonder created by people and nature working together.
