    We are learning English, but how can we learn English well? A student can know a lot about English, but maybe he can't speak English.

If you want to know how to swim, you must get into the river. And if you want to be a football player, you must play football.

    So you can learn English only by using it. You must listen to your teacher in class. You must read English every day. You must speak English to your classmates and you must also write something in English sometimes. Then one day, you may find your English very good.

    TheSoundofMusic is one of the most popular American movies. And the song DoReMi in the movie is also popular in the world.

The movie tells a story about a tutor, Maria. She is a young and outgoing woman. She goes to look after a family with seven children. Their family name is Von Trapp. Mr. Von Trapp is a captain. He and his family live in Austria.

    The family are very sad after the children's mother, Mrs. Von Trapp, died. Nobody takes care of the children. They cry and shout every day. The lonely father often becomes angry because of the noisy children.

    Maria often teaches them to sing lively songs and perform short, funny plays. At first the father is almost mad, but the children's smiling faces make him happy again. Then Mr. Von Trapp falls in love with Maria. At last they get married.

    What kind of work do British teenagers do? From the age of 14 some teenagers help the milkman deliver milk to houses. Teenagers of 15 or 16 years old may work for 8 hours on Saturdays and 35 hours during school holidays. Many teenagers will get up early to deliver newspapers to houses around theirs before going to school. They are known as Paperboys or Papergirls. Looking after young children is also a popular job for teenagers, because they can get paid for watching children and television at the same time!

    Other popular jobs:

    Gardening work.

    Working in a shop.

    Office work.

    Children need to have a work permit(许可证). They can get an application (申请) form for the work permit from school or local Education Welfare Office.  The pay depends on the kind of work but could be anything up to ＄3 every hour. The National Minimum Wage does not apply to workers under 16.

    "I want to know how to speak English well. What can I do？"Bill asks this question like many students do. I ask him, "How do you learn English？"He answers, "Only in the English lessons." The first thing I will say is, "That is not enough!"

    If you want to speak English well, you have to practise. Speak to friends, classmates or foreigners in stores. Speaking is the best way to learn a language.

    In my lessons I usually ask my students how they feel about speaking English, and they often say "nervous" "scared" or some words like these. The second advice I can give is to relax. Don't worry about making mistakes. If you can't think of the right word to use, don't worry about it and just say what you want to say.

    Speaking English well isn't just about practising your speaking. It is also important to listen to English. Listen to the English programmes.
