阅读理解 Grand Canyon National Park Grand Canyon National Park is located entirely in northern Arizona, which takes up 277 miles of the Colorado River and nearby uplands. It became a National Park on Feb 26, 1919 and was made a World Heritage Site in 1979. Grand Canyon Hotels, Lodging and Camping The South Rim (边缘) has quite a collection of lodges and hotels in the Park and there is also a large campground at the Mather Campground (open year-round) and the Desert View Campground, (open from mid-May through mid-October). In the town of Tusayan, just outside the south entrance station, are the Grand Canyon Squire Inn, the Grand Hotel, etc. On the North Rim, the Grand Canyon Lodge is the only lodging inside the Grand Canyon National Park. The North Rim also closes in winter when snows block the roads. The North Rim Campground is open from mid-May to mid-October. Activities and Park Use in the Grand Canyon The canyon may be viewed from the rim at a number of overlooks along Desert View Drive and Hermit Road (closed to private vehicles during shuttle bus season, when it may be accessed by free park shuttles). Visitors may also hike along the rim on the Rim Trail or below the rim on a number of inner canyon trails. All hiking at Grand Canyon needs great effort and energy. The park offers a variety of activities at the Grand Canyon including helicopter tours, jeep tours, train rides and plane flights throughout the year. Climate of Grand Canyon National Park The South Rim is 7000 feet above sea level, which means snow in winter and cool nights even in summer. Summer temperatures along the Colorado River at the canyon bottom can reach 120 F. The North Rim is 8000 feet above sea level and can receive snow throughout most of the year. The weather is particularly changeable in the spring and fall; visitors should be prepared for a variety of climates. Visitor Totals to the Grand Canyon There are over five million visitors per year.
