Have you ever been to America? I was only an 11-year-old girl when my parents 1me that we would soon move to America. We were on the bus then. I cried. I remember that I could not bear the thought of never hearing the radio program for school children again which I 2every morning.

In fact, I think I cried very little when I was saying 3 to my friends and relatives. When we were leaving,I even felt a little 4because I thought about all the places I was going to see-the strange and 5places I had known only from books and pictures.

The first four years in America taught me the importance of optimism(乐观), but the idea did not come to 6at once. For the first two years in New York I was really 7-having to study in three schools and I 8most of my time learning the English language. I 9had any time for fun. Sometimes I did not quite know what I was or what I should be. Mother 10and things became even harder for me. It took me 11to get used to my stepfather. I was often 12, and saw no end to"the hard times".

I had to do many things for the family since I knew English better than everyone else at home. 13things got better and better later and almost all common troubles 14at last. From those experiences I have learned one important rule: Something good is certain to happen in the end. 15you do not give up, and just wait a little!

“We’re in our new house. Let’s get a new pet to get along with us,” Mrs Brown said to her husband.
“That sounds like a pretty good idea,” he answered. “Do you want to see the ads in the newspaper?”
“Let’s go to the animal shelter. Many pets there need homes. Since tomorrow is Saturday, we can both go,” she said.
Next morning the Browns met Mr Snow at the animal shelter. “We want to be sure that the pets here go to good homes,” Mr Snow said, “So I need to ask you some questions.”
After they talked for a while, the Browns decided to get a small dog. It wouldn‘t need a big house or a big yard. A small dog would bark(吠)and warn them if someone tried to break into their house.
