Never before had a Kitchen so much of a History

It tells of Freedom,Success, and of the Architecture of big American cities.Because that is where it started:in the second half of the 19th century!

Welcome to a new Era of Kitchen Interior Design

Back then,a Generation of successful American Entrepreneurs dreamt of a new style of Architecture to express their personal wealth. This dream was realized by young architects such as Daniel Burnham and Stanford White. They all had studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. And they created a new style for Architecture and Interior Design, named after the famous French Art Institute:Beaux-Arts.

SieMatic BeauxArts Breaks and Creates

In fact it was not a new style at all,but a composition of styles from different periods and cultures. Many world-famous structures such as the Chicago Art Institute and the Statue of Liberty account for it.But what does that have to do with your kitchen?Just as much as you want it to.Because in the same way that the anti-conventional architects back then took the freedom to combine elements from different historical eras, today, you too can break the conventional rules of style and create something new:your own personal composition of your kitchen. For that,SieMatic BeauxArts offers unique opportunities:A broad range of seemingly conflicting features that you combine to a harmonious design of your own.You can choose from menu of various forms, appealing colors, and precious materials,to create an environment that is much more than just a kitchen:a reflection of your personality.

69.Why did the BeauxArts style attract American entrepreneurs?

A.It helped display their money status.

B.It was created by famous architects.

70.What is unique of SieMatic BeauxArts?

A.Its designs are anti-conventional.

B.Its designs come from famous structures.

C.Its customers can enjoy their own composition.

(2018·浙江高考)As cultural symbols go, the American car is quite young. The Model T Ford was built at the Piquette Plant in Michigan a century ago, with the first rolling off the assembly line (装配线) on September 27, 1908. Only eleven cars were produced the next month. But eventually Henry Ford would build fifteen million of them.

Modern America was born on the road,  behind a wheel. The car shaped some of the most lasting aspects of American culture: the roadside diner, the billboard, the motel, even the hamburger. For most of the last century, the car represented what it meant to be American—going forward at high speed to find new worlds. The road novel, the road movie, these are the most typical American ideas, born of abundant petrol, cheap cars and a neverending interstate highway system, the largest public works project in history.

In 1928 Herbert Hoover imagined an America with “a chicken in every pot and a car in every garage.” Since then, this society has moved onward, never looking back, as the car transformed America from a farmbased society into an industrial power.

The cars that drove the American Dream have helped to create a global ecological disaster. In America the demand for oil has grown by 22 percent since 1990.

The problems of excessive (过度的) energy consumption, climate change and population growth have been described in a book by the American writer Thomas L. Friedman. He fears the worst, but hopes for the best.

Friedman points out that the green economy (经济) is a chance to keep American strength. “The ability to design, build and export green technologies for producing clean water, clean air and healthy and abundant food is going to be the currency of power in the new century.”

________ you believe it or not, it is real.

A large body of research has been developed in recent years to explain many aspects of willpower. Most of the researchers exploring self-control do so with an obvious goal in mind: How can willpower be strengthened? If willpower is truly a limited resource, as the research suggests, what can be done to make it stay strong?
Avoiding temptation (诱惑) is an effective method for maintaining self-control, which is called the “out of sight, out of mind” principle. One recent study, for instance, found office workers less attracted to candy in the desk drawer than that on top of their desks, in plain sight.
The research suggesting that we possess a limited reservoir of self-control raises a troubling question. When we face too many temptations, are we to fail? Not necessarily. Researchers don’t believe that one’s willpower is ever completely exhausted. Rather, people appear to hold some willpower in reserve, saved for future demands. The right motivation allows us to tap into those reserves, allowing us to carry on even when our self-control strength has been run down. High motivation might help overcome weakened willpower-at least to a point.
Willpower may also be made less vulnerable(脆弱)to being exhausted in the first place. Researchers who study self-control often describe it as being like a muscle that gets tired with heavy use. But there is another aspect to the muscle comparison, they say. While muscles become exhausted by exercise in the short term, they are strengthened by regular exercise in the long term. Similarly, regular practices of self-control may improve willpower strength.
The evidence from willpower-exhaustion studies also suggests that making a list of resolutions on New Year’s Eve is the worst possible approach. Being exhausted in one area can reduce willpower in other areas, so it makes more sense to focus on a single goal at a time. In other words, don’t try to quit smoking, adopt a healthy diet and start a new exercise plan at the same time. Taking goals one by one is a better approach. Once a good habit is in place, Baumeister says, you’ll no longer need to draw on your willpower to maintain the behavior. Eventually healthy habits will become routine, and won’t require making decisions at all.

Art has always been a vital part of my life. When I was o ld enough to appreciate genuine fine art , my parents started bringing me to museums that housed works of the greatest artists in the world.
When my art teacher asked us to do a Cubist(立体派的)drawing, my first thought was that she was just joking. I didn't like Cubism. I thought to do so means making fun ofthe true artists I admired. Unwillingly, I began to find out items for my drawing, I carelessly drew the objects all from different view points. The pictures all looked like a mess of lines and shapes anyway, but I was more concerned with how many more minutes were in the period because I was hungry. Yet, the other part of me was growing quieter. I began to take my task seriously and darken specific lines. I stared at my drawing and determined which ones needed to be emphasized. I was soon shading certain shapes black and they brought out important figures. It must be absolutely perfect.
When I showed her my finished drawing, my teacher looked at me with her huge smile and simply stated, "You are a Cubist. " At that moment the world stopped moving. My cubist drawing was the best piece of art I had ever created, not because I had spent the most time on it but because I had felt it. I thought of how I produced it. Once I felt frustrated, trying to perfect my black lines. Another time I was delighted in breathing life into the drawing by adding color. All of these emotions showed themselves in my work, giving it life that none of my previous works had had. Cubism set me free, showing everything I knew, everything I was, and everything I wished I could be. I had found the missing link, and the world began to move again.
