About 3 years ago, something terrible happened to me. Our boat (catch) in a terrible storm. enormous wave covered our boat all at once and my younger brother (fall) into the sea. Our boat survived. But it was going the direction of the whirlpool. When we were on the edge of the whirlpool, I felt (calm) than when we were moving towards it. When the boat was on the inside of it, we were going around in (circle ) at great speed. I tied myself to a barrel, could help me to float. Then, without (wait), I dived into the sea. My elder brother was too (terrify) to leave the boat and sank into the bottom of the whirlpool. I did escape. The waves carried me to an area where I was picked up by some of my old friends, but they were unable (recognise) me, for my hair had turned white in less than a single day.

An old story goes that once there were four single men, leading very boring lives. None of them were married, or had lovers, or did anything exciting. They just sat around all day and played mahjong(麻将). One day they played mahjong from 11 in the morning until 11 at night. During the game, no matter who won, the winning card was always the "four columns" card(the card shows four independent, parallel columns is two lines). Even more of a coincidence(巧合), it was November 11, or 11/11. In order to commemorate(纪念)the day, they nicknamed it Singles Day.
Singles Day was first celebrated at various universities in Nanjing, capital city of Jiangsu Province during the 1990s. It got the name Singles Day because the date was comprised of four "ones". These college students had since graduated, and carried their's university tradition into society. Singles Day is now a special day for all fashionable youths.
The main way to celebrate Singles Day is to have dinner with your single friends, but it's important that each person pay their own fee to show their independence. People also hold "blind date" parties in an attempt to bid goodbye to their single lives.
Many singles also choose to say goodbye to their single lives on this day. Many people attend "blind date" parties and many people choose to marry on this day. In addition to meaning "singles", the four "ones" of the date can also mean "only one" as in "the only one for me". Some people will use this date and this meaning to tell their special ones that they are the only "one" in their heart.
Alice: Mr. Black, this is Alice (speak). I'm calling to ask you if I can take the afternoon off today.
Black: Well, of course. can you tell me what the problem is, Alice?
Alice: OK, Mr. Black. My son is going to take part in a singing competition (hold) in Washington tomorrow. He's got so many things to take he can't go there alone.
Black: So you want to take there in your minibus?
Alice: Yes. And as soon as I put him up in the hotel, I (drive) back.
Black: Well, that would be a (tire) journey. It's nearly 300 kilometers away and it will take you at least six hours (travel) to and from Washington. Why don't you stay there until you (see) your son perform?
Alice: But I have two tomorrow morning.
Black: Don't worry. I'll tell Mary to take your classes instead. She's always willing to help.
Alice: That'll be nice. Thank you and give my thanks to Mary.
Black: You,re welcome.
On Sunday, the second day of Spring Festival, a man was killed after he fell into the tiger enclosure while trying to get into the zoo in Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province, without paying for a ticket.
The tragedy cost two lives, as the tiger was shot dead when zoo employees tried to rescue the man.
As news of the incident spread, the majority of voices online blamed the dead man for the animal's death. Some said this was a sign that people are becoming more coldhearted. But they are wrong. People have been displaying increasingly more enthusiasm for helping those in need and participating in charity work. In 2016, the China Charity Federation received donations of 18. 8 billion yuan ($2. 7 billion)in total, 46 percent more than the donations received in 2015, and they sent helping hands to one tragedy after another.
People are just tired of forgiving those in the wrong. While sympathy is right, it has been abused too much. When somebody commits a crime, no matter how cruel the crime is, media outlets explain the criminal's miserable childhood and there are calls for forgiveness. When someone smokes in public, there are always people calling for tolerance.
People are fed up and angry with lawbreakers escaping their due punishments in the name of forgiveness and tolerance.
But going back to the tragedy at the wildlife park in Ningbo, the tiger's death shows the park was not well prepared for such emergencies. They did not have any tranquilizer guns that could sedate the tiger immediately and save the lives of both the man and the endangered animal.
In the meantime, it is necessary to raise people's awareness that the animals in zoos and wildlife parks are not domesticated pets, and of the need for visitors to observe rules for their own safety.
The man in the Ningbo incident paid for his fault with his life, but the tiger was killed for his fault, too. We sincerely hope no more tigers or humans will pay for such fault.
You are about this problem.
