How can I fight laziness?

Lazy people will never amount to anything in life. However, laziness can be defeated once a few changes have been made in your mind.

. Many people lack sleep constantly, since they stay up too late and get up too early to prepare for work. These people have little motivation once they arrive home. Laziness works hand in hand with a lack of motivation and a tendency to put off things. By adjusting your sleep schedule to provide a few more hours of meaningful rest, you can fight laziness throughout the day.

Another way to fight laziness is to change your mind from passive to active. Some people treat their lives as if they were pushed from task to task. Others take a more protective approach, viewing each task as a challenge they must overcome alone.

Some people fight laziness by removing the temptations(诱惑) that surround them. A television in the living room may provide entertainment, but watching too much TV often contributes to laziness. Create a reward system for yourself, just as parents do for a child to promote responsibility.

Spouses(配偶) and children may all have different energy levels, but laziness can be spread if not dealt with immediately. To fight household laziness, lead by example. Be the first to collect and wash dishes after a meal. Others in the home may eventually follow your example and perform their own task. It is difficult to practice laziness when you are surrounded by motivated people.

enough exercise and a balanced diet can help you to develop a healthy lifestyle, thus enabling you to have more energy and help lift your spirits.

A. Knowing how to fight laziness is important.

B. Laziness sets in when you no longer feel in charge of your own life.

C. Complete a few tasks and reward yourself with what you enjoy, such as a good dinner or a film.

D. Laziness can also be a lasting problem at home.

E. Finally, taking exercise regularly can help you fight laziness.

F. With strong determination, you will be able to achieve your goal.

G. One way to fight laziness is to get enough sleep.

How similar are language and music?

Language is part of our daily lives, no matter where we live in the world. Both language and music play a huge role in our culture and here are some of their similarities.

Both language and music have a writing system.

In English we record language using the alphabet, which is a collection of letters. Similarly, we use notes to keep a record of music. Musicians read notes and create meaning in the form of music. By writing pieces of text or music, we are able to share experiences through time. We can read the ideas or hear the composition of someone who lived hundreds of years ago.

You can make a good guess at where someone is from by listening to the language they use. In the same way, we know that styles of music are different around the world, giving us the opportunity to explore many different cultures through their music and providing us with music for every situation.

    Both share emotion.

Of course you may be able to see it in my face, but you will know for sure through my words. Similarly, music can sound angry, sad or happy. Music can show you exactly how the composer was or is feeling, and allows us to share in that emotion. When you feel happy, you might want to sing and dance to a happy song to celebrate your happiness. I think we have all used music to express or process our emotions, often combining it with language in the form of song lyrics.

A. Both are expressive.

B Both vary with culture.

C How do you know that I am angry?

D. We use language to express our thoughts.

E. So just as you read English, you can read music.

F. Similarly, music is part of many people's lives.

G. In contrast, you probably also listen to sad music when you are feeling down.

    The Art of Slow Reading

If you are reading this article in print, chances are that you will only get through half of what I have written. And if you are reading this online, you may not even finish a fifthThey suggest that many of us no longer have the concentration to read articles through to their conclusion.

So are we getting stupider? Actually, our online habits are damaging the mental power we need to process and understand textual information. Round-the-clock news makes us read from one article to the next without necessarily engaging fully with any of the content. Our reading is frequently interrupted by the noise of the latest email and we are now absorbing short bursts of words on Twitter and Facebook more regularly than longer texts. But we are gradually forgetting how to sit back, think carefully, and relate all the facts to each other.

A desperate bunch of academics want us to take our time while reading, and re-reading. They ask us to switch off our computers every so often and rediscover both the joy of personal engagement with printed texts, and the ability to process them fully. What's to be done then? Most slow readers realize that total rejection of the web is extremely unrealistic. They feel that getaway from technology for a while is the answer

Personally, I'm not sure whether I could ever go offline for long. Even while writing this article, I am switching constantly between sites, skimming too often, absorbing too little. Internet reading has become too rooted in my daily life for me to change. I read essays and articles not in hard copy but as PDFs. I suspect that many readers are in a similar position You can download a computer application called Freedom, which allows you to read in peace by cutting off your Internet connection. A. The Internet is probably part of the problem.

B. Now some campaigns are advocating slow reading.

C. These are the two findings from the recent research projects.

Last week the electricity in my flat went out. My typical evening is spent watching TV and scrolling (滚动) through social media. Tonight this wasn't possible. My roommate and I weren't prepared with candles and matches. We just rely on electricity.

So for me it was an early night. That night, losing our electricity felt like losing a basic necessity, as basic as running water. But really, electricity is a luxury that we've grown to take for granted. I use electricity all the time, even when it's not really necessary.

And as I'm writing this, I have my lights on, even in the middle of the day when I don't really need them.

It contributes to global warming. It is harming our environment and we need to do what we can to stop it. Not only that, but if we continue to use the same large amount of energy, we will soon run out of it.

How would we survive in a world without electricity? Our daily lives go around it. We wouldn't be able to function. So, shouldn't we start preparing for it now? Cutting down on our use of electricity would save energy resources so that they could last for longer. And if everyone does it, we can make a big difference.

C. This left me in complete darkness the whole night.

In your life, sometimes you may be asked to speak in front of a large group of people. Although it sounds a little scary, even those with stage fright can speak successfully to the group with adequate preparation.

Practice your speech before the big day. If possible, practice the speech in front of a friend or family member to get used to saying it to real people. If you feel you must have note cards, limit the amount to about three cards. This will force you to keep your speech concise and help you keep your eyes focused on your audience.

Remember why you've been invited to speak. If you're battling fear over speaking to a large group of people, keep your mind on the fact that you were selected for this important role. The speech organizers must have seen something valuable in you or your expertise.

Remember that fear of public speaking is very common. Most of the people in the audience would be feeling the same fear and stress that you do in your position. Knowing this may make you feel better.

What you say should be tailored to why you're there and who you're speaking to in order to avoid sounding general. If speaking to a charity group, mention the good work certain specific individuals have done for the cause. If speaking at a business conference, briefly state why you want to help these people.

Keep eye contact with the crowd. Pick one person in each section and look at him while you're speaking. After each important point in your speech, switch your focus to another section. When you focus only on one person at a time, the size of the crowd isn't as frightening.

A. A good memory is really helpful.

B. Show appreciation to your audience.

C. Mention your audience in your speech.

D. The more you have it memorized, the better.

E. In fact, it's normal to feel nervous or stressed out before a big speech.

These two types of lodging(住宿)have the same basic purpose—a place for travelers to sleep. For instance, they came to be for different reasons, and at very different times.

The word “hotel” dates back to the 1600s and comes from a French word, hôtel. That word, just like the English one, referred to a place that provides lodging, meals, entertainment, and other services to travelers. This word dates back to the 1920s and combines the words “hotel” and “motor.” As America's major highway system developed, so did motels, filling the need for roadside stops for motorists traveling cross-country.

Hotels tend to be built for longer stays, while motels are intended more for one-or two-night stops along a journey. Because of this, hotels are much more likely to have offerings like lounges, gyms, and entertainment.

Want the place you stay to be just as much a part of your travel experience as anything else? Choose a hotel, Just need a place to pop in and out of to shower and sleep? A motel might be the better choice.

B. How should you start to forgive?

C. Recognize the benefits of forgiveness.

D. Try to see things from your offender's angle.

E. For some people, forgiving themselves is the biggest challenge.

F. To make your anger die away, try a simple stressmanagement technique.

G. If you wait for people to apologize, you could be waiting an awfully long time.

Forgiveness

To forgive is a virtue, but no one has ever said it is easy. When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be extremely difficult to let go of your hate. However, forgiveness is possible, and it can be surprisingly beneficial to your physical and mental health. People who forgive show less sadness, anger and stress and more hopefulness, according to a recent research.

    Try the following steps:

Calm yourself. You can take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure: a beautiful scene in nature, or someone you love.

Don't wait for an apology. Many times the person who hurt you does not intend to apologize. They may have wanted to hurt you or they just don't see things the same way. Keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean becoming friends again with the person who upset you.

Take the control away from your offender (冒犯者). Rethinking about your hurt gives power to the person who caused you pain. Instead of focusing on your wounded feelings, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you.

If you understand your offender, you may realize that he or she was acting out of unawareness, fear, and even love. You may want to write a letter to yourself from your offender's point of view.

Don't forget to forgive yourself. But it can rob you of your selfconfidence if you don't do it.

As the coronavirus outbreak continues, many Americans are fearful of using public transportation. They also are looking for ways to get exercise without having to go to a gym, as well as ways to enjoy the outdoors.

In the United States, bicycles at big stores like Walmart have sold out. And small bicycle stores cannot keep up with demand for "family-style" bicycles: the low-cost, easy-to-ride models.

The bicycle industry is seeing its biggest sales increase since the oil crisis of the 1970s.The increase in bicycle demand began in March as countries began to close down. All bicycle sales, including those for children, are up 100 percent from the year before.

Cities like Manila in the Philippines and Rome, Italy have created bicycle paths for the growing number of people who want to avoid public transportation. In London, city officials plan to bar cars from some central roads.

Of course, you can only buy a bicycle if you can find one bicycle. In the U.S. the shortages now mean it may take many months to get one.The U.S. buys 90 percent of its bicycles from China. Bicycle factories there were shut down to stop the spread of COVID-19.

In Bar Harbor, Maine, Brian Smith bought a new bicycle for one of his daughters. She is a competitive swimmer who could not get to the pool to practice. His family now goes for rides several times a day. Bicycling helps them all get exercise and enjoy the fresh air."It's fun.

Being responsible is universally agreed to be one of the keys to success. Instead, it takes a long time for kids to develop this difficult yet beautiful habit. So, how should parents teach their kids to be responsible for their duties?

Start early. If you haven't taught your kids responsibility, you can't suddenly scold them for acting irresponsibly. Begin teaching responsibility when your kid is very young..

Guide your children. It is important for a parent to understand kids' skill level and give them tasks suitable for the skill level. First, show your kids where the watering pot is kept and then show how the plants are watered. Also, explain why plants need regular watering. Even your toddlers (蹒跚学步的小孩) can help out as long as you guide them carefully.

Talk about responsibility. Children who hear this word from an early age also quickly understand the meaning of responsibility. When you give your kids tasks, be sure to tell them that it is their "responsibility" to complete the tasks.

The best way your kids will learn to act responsibly is by observing you and other family members. Show your responsibility by acting in a responsible manner at all times in front of your children. By observing your actions, your kids will slowly learn to be responsible.

A. Be a role model.

B. Avoid constant rewards.

Study skills are valuable tools when it comes to achieving meaningful learning. But there are many students who haven't mastered good skills. They often go for last-minute memorization. Studying from memory won't give you very promising scores. These will help you improve your performance.

It means writing down the most important points in your own words so that you can remember them more easily. In most cases the key is to be able to write them down quickly, but without leaving out any important information. The other key is to make sure the relationship between the main concepts is very clear.

Then remember to look over your notes within 24 hours of taking them, even if you don't have a test coming up. Then when you actually start studying for a test, you'll be able to recall the information much better than if you hadn't looked over your notes at all since you took them.

Another skill to help you study better is brainstorming. So it can be especially useful for doing group projects, and you can consider different ideas and viewpoints. But it can also be useful to cram for an exam. It can clear up any questions and help you dig deeper into the subject matter.

No one is born knowing how to study, so study skills are very important.

A. This will put you at a huge advantage.

B. Taking notes is one of the most widespread.

C. It's important to solve problems in a simpler way.

D. Luckily there are a lot of effective methods available.

If you see humor as a form of entertainment, you're missing some of its biggest benefits: Humor makes average-looking people look cute and uninteresting people entertaining. Best of all, humor raises your energy, and that can have an effect on everything you do at school, at work, or in your personal life. The increase of energy will even make you more willing to exercise, and that will raise your overall energy even more.

Humor lets you better understand life and sometimes helps you laugh at even the worst of your problems. So it will be useful to include some humor tips for everyday life.

You don't have to be the joke teller in the group in order to show your sense of humor. You can be the one who directs the conversation of fun topics that are ripe for others to add humor. Every party needs a straight person.

When it comes to in-person humor, effort counts a lot. When people see you trying to be funny, it frees them to try it themselves. People need permission to be funny social settings because there's always a risk that comes with humor. For in-person humor, quality isn't as important as you might think. Your attitude and effort count a lot.

Some people — and I was one of them — believe that humorous complaints about the little problems of life make humor, and sometimes that is the case. One funny observation about a problem in your life can be funny, but five is just complaining, no matter how smart you think you are. Funny complaints can wear people out.

A. You'll appear fun and funny by association.

B. But not all senses of humor are created equal.

C. Humor also transports your mind away from your daily troubles.

D. Studies show that a good sense of humor even makes you seem smarter.

E. The problem comes when you start doing too much complaint-based humor.

F. You have to be at least a bit self-assured to laugh at yourself in front of others.

G. So even if your efforts at humor fail, you might free the hidden humor in others.

Remember the big picture.

Too often we are stressed by the little things, daily problems. These trouble us a lot. What can we do with them? . And then ask ourselves if whatever is troubling us really matters in the big picture. If not, let it go.

Try a stress dump.
