Dear Jane,
My English name is Jack. I'm from China. Mr Wang, my English teacher, told me your name and e-mail address. I'm glad to write to you. Would you like to be my pen friend?
What do you usually do after school? When I am free, I always play sports. I also like watching TV. I'd like to tell you what I think of TV shows. I love English now. It helps me a lot! So I watch English programmes very often. I also like sports news. But I don't like soap operas (肥皂剧). I think they are boring (乏味的). I don't like Chinese Cooking, either. I think it's for Mums!
Jane, what do you think of TV shows? Can you write to me and tell me about your ideas?
Best wishes.
Yours,
Jack

Mrs. Davis is a woman over forty. Her husband is a famous engineer and works in a big factory. He is very busy. Mrs. Davis is only interested in clothes. She often goes to the fashion shows and buys the most expensive clothes for herself. Of course they cost Mr. Davis much money but she is never worried about money. Sometimes she shows them to her husband, but the poor man hopes to have a rest and always says they're nice. Mrs. Davis is happy and goes to the parties in them.
It was December 23 when their daughter came home with her friends. Mrs. Davis was trying on a new dress in front of a mirror. The girl said she was going to borrow some clothes of her mother's. Mrs. Davis was happy and agreed. It took her daughter nearly one and a half hours to choose a proper (合适的) dress.
"Oh, my dear!" called out Mrs. Davis. "You've chosen the most beautiful dress of mine! By the way, what do you borrow it for?"
"We'll have a Christmas Eve party," answered her daughter. "I'll play an old witch (巫婆).
