It was my first day at school. The teacher in my English class was Mr. Browne, a really tall man with a yellow beard (胡须). At the beginning of the class, he wrote on the blackboard in big letters: PRECEPT.

"Okay, so who can tell me what a precept is? Does anyone know?"

No one put up their hands. Mr. Browne smiled and wrote on the blackboard again:

PRECEPT=Rules about really important things.

"So, what are some really important things?" he asked us.

Many students gave their answers: rules, study, homework, family, parents, friends, our world...

"Okay," said Mr. Browne, "but no one has named the most important thing of all." we all looked at him, out of ideas. He then wrote down:

WHO WE ARE!

"Who we are! Right? What kind of people are we? Isn't that the most important thing? Learning who you are is what you're here to do."

He turned around and wrote down:

Mr. Browne's September precept:

When given the choice(选择) between being right or being kind, choose(选择) kind.

"Okay, so everybody, from now on, at the beginning of every month, I'm going to write a new precept on the blackboard and you are going to write it down in your notebook. Then we are going to talk about it and what it means."

Dear Peter, How are you? I'm fine. I have some exciting news! I have moved to a new house in the countryside of Canada. It is very nice and quiet here. The house has five bedrooms, three bathrooms and a large kitchen. But I love it much better than my old house in the city.

The weather is very cold here. Yesterday, I went skiing (滑雪) with my friends Tom and Payton. Tom is an excellent skier but Payton and I are still in the beginner group. We had great fun and after that, we drank hot chocolate beside an open fire.

Your mum tells me that you will visit me during the summer holiday. I can't wait to see you and show you around my new house. Which room would you like to sleep in? One of the guestrooms looks out onto (朝向) a lake, while the other one has lovely views of the woods (树林) and mountains.

Can you give me a hand, please? Can you bring me some photos of Hong Kong? I miss my friends and family there. See you soon!

Yours,
