"As a new Shenzhener, being led to check out the history of my city is really a wonderful experience," said a participant in her online blog, after she took part in a cultural tour led by Mary Ann O' Donnell, an American anthropologist (人类学家) who has been based in Shenzhen since the 1990s.

The Shuiwei tour, organized by Handshake 302, a public art organization, was one of a series of tours that will take visitors to a total of seven places of cultural and historical importance in Shenzhen.

Take Metro Line 4 or 7, get off at Fumin Station, walk a few steps, and you will get to the heart of Shuiwei.

"What's important is not what did or did not happen, but how the stories we tell become history, and how we use the history to shape our identities," said O' Donnell.

Along the years, people in Shuiwei made a living by fishing and producing sea salt. However, the practical influence of "water" gradually fell off. Around the 1980s, villagers travelled to and from Hong Kong by boat to buy daily necessities or unusual objects and resell them in Shenzhen. Meanwhile, village renovation (革新) and industrialization(工业化) turned Shuiwei into a landlocked region. The village soon changed its livelihood from fishing and agriculture(农业) to manufacturing (制造业) and real estate(房地产业) .Hand-shake buildings are everywhere.

The rock museum in the village, which exhibits hundreds of valuable rocks collected from all over the world, also shows the transition from "water" to "land" in Shuiwei's cultural geography, according to O'Donnell.

    A . 2 B . 4 C . 7 D . 11
  2. (2) The writer mentioned ____________ to show "water" used to be important in people's lives in Shuiwei.

A . came from America and has lived in Shenzhen for 31 years B . has organized tours to a total of seven places in Shenzhen C . thinks history is closely connected to people's identities D . believes people in Shuiwei lived a much better life in the 1980s

以下是一篇短文,请阅读全文,并从下列方框里的六个句子中选择五个还原到原文中,使原文的意思完整、连贯。

A. It's my rule to get to the end.

B. Don't start what you can't finish.

C. But now I'm trying to decide if I'm starting or not.

D. You should prepare a lot before you start reading a book.

E. Are you connecting it with the knowledge you have learned?

F. It's not that kind of thing you can do five minutes here, ten minutes there.

Billionaire Bill Gates reads about 50 books a year. Knowing the habits of successful people can help us improve and here are Gates' tips on how to read.

Take notes in the margins(空白处).

When you're reading, you have to focus on it. Are you taking the new knowledge? For me, taking notes helps make sure that I'm really thinking hard about what's in there. Sometimes it takes me a long time to read a book because I write so much in the margins.

I don't let myself start a book that I'm not going to finish. Take a book called

Infinite Jest for example. I watched The End of the Tour, a movie based on that book. l loved it. If the book was like three-hundred-page book, there's no doubt that I want to read it after watching that movie. But it's quite long and hard to understand. I don't want to make an exception.

Spare at least an hour every day.

You'd better sit down for an hour at a time, or you are not able to focus on what's in the book. Maybe it is possible for magazine articles or short YouTube videos. So every night I'm spending a little over an hour reading a book and make some progress.
