   "Pictogram" is a compound word made from "picture" and "telegram". Pictograms are usually simple pictures, and they are often made with letters and words. A pictogram is a symbol which represents an idea or an object through an image (图像). Also, it is a kind of communication system which must be learned but is very useful in our lives. The user must learn to see, understand and remember the different pictogram symbols. There are about l, 400 different symbols at the present time.

    A Canadian named Subhas Maharaj came up with the idea for pictograms in the beginning of the 1980s. At first, pictograms were introduced to help people who had disabilities in speaking, reading, or writing. Pictograms are images of objects that are easy to see and create. Today, pictograms are used in many different ways. FOR example, there are traffic, recycling and restaurant signs, even animal symbols and so on.

    Pictograms are usually in white against a black background. The combination of white against a black background creates extremely contrast (对比) , and this makes pictograms friendlier to users. A good example of a pictogram is the public toilet symbols for "men" and women", just like the one on the left. Pictograms are a useful method of communication, and people can have fun as they learn each pictogram.

    A few days ago,I ran into(撞上)a stranger as he passed by.I said sorry to him, and he said,“Excuse me too,I wasn't even watching for you.”We were very polite,this stranger and I. Then we went on our way after saying goodbye.

    I quietly went to Betty's bed.“Wake up,my dear,”I said.“Are these the flowers you picked for me?”She smiled,“I found them by the tree.I knew you'd like them,especially the blue.”I said,“I am so sorry that I treated(对待)you that way today.”And she whispered,“Mommy,that's okay－I still love you anyway.”I kissed her and said,“I love you too and I do love the flowers.”

    That day Betty gave me a lesson on how to get along with each other in the family.I spent much time on work before and didn't realize how important family life was.I decided to do better in the future.

Once these products were very popular around the world for the low price and excellent quality, but in most foreigners' eyes, they thought these products were low—end and of low quality. With the development of Chinese economy, the government is trying to improve its image (形象) . Creating our own brands is the best choice. And the government makes effort to improve the quality of our own brands in order to promote (提高) the international image.

    Lots of foreigners still think "Made in China" means cheap copycats (山寨货) . It's true that the influence of "Made in China" still can't be compared with that of Silicon Valley (硅谷) in America, but China has made great progress. The number of world-class companies from China has increased in past few years. The number of Chinese companies among the world top 500 has increased from 35 in 2018 to 129 in 2019. And many of them, such as Huawei and Alibaba, have great international influence. But to compete with the world's technological powers, we still have a long way to go.
