Stephen Hawking died at the age of 76 on March 14, 2018. Hawking is known as the most famous physicist after Einstein.

Hawking was born in Oxford, England, on January 8, 1942. When he was a kid, Hawking went to school in St. Albans—a small city near London. Although he did well, he was never top of his class. After leaving high school, Hawking went first to Oxford University to study physics, and then he went to Cambridge University to study.

At the age of twenty, Hawking started noticing that something was wrong with him. Later, he went to the hospital. The doctors said that he would die before he was twenty-three. But Hawking didn't give up. In 1988, Hawking completed his book A Brief History of Time. In the book, he talked about many things, like the universe, the big bang(宇宙大爆炸)and the black hole.

My mother didn't really like cooking. And she wasn't good at cooking. When she did cooking, I didn't like her food.

My interest in cooking started when I was 11.

One day I was at home alone. I was watching TV. It happened that it was about cooking. Then I thought I could do this! So I went to the bookstore and looked for the biggest cookbook I could find.

During a year, I had produced most of its recipes(食谱)and was ready for a bigger challenge. I wanted to create my own dishes and I started cooking for more people than just my family.

To my joy, my parents allowed me to build a test kitchen. I did much cooking to test my dishes in 38 it and my skill improved quickly. Later, my mom and I set up a dinner club that organized monthly events inside my home.

Now as a teen chef (主厨), I have also cooked in top-class restaurants around the country. I am not doing it for the money, but because I love cooking. Now I know that when you stop caring whether you'll be famous or do well, your dream will come to you.

On December 24, kids around the world wait for Santa Claus (圣诞老人) . They think that the fat, white - bearded man will bring them gifts.

But do you know that some people would rather keep Santa out of the door?

Last month, 10 doctoral (博士的) students from Tsinghua, Peking and Renmin Universities said Santa Claus wasn't welcome in China. "Foreign holidays like Christmas are now very popular in China, while fewer and fewer people celebrate traditional Chinese festivals like the Dragon Boat Festival," said the students in a public letter. So they asked people to stop sending Christmas cards and giving gifts to their children. Instead, they said Chinese people should spend more time on traditional festivals.

After that, they have lots of support（支持者）. In Hunan, several people went out on the street on Christmas Day. They made poems and wrote Chinese calligraphy (书法) . "Rather than spending money on Christmas, we should care more about our own culture," said one of them.

But some others have different ideas. "Celebrations of foreign holidays help us know more about foreign cultures. It is good for us to make friends," said Liu Yang, a 14-year-old boy from Shanghai. Sun Long, 13, from Beijing, sees the celebration as a way to make people happier and closer. "My school held a big party on Christmas Day. We played games and shared gifts with each other. I think we have got closer," he said.

How do you feel when you are fooled by others? No doubt（毫无疑问）, feel bad. There is nothing worse than falling for a joke and being a fool except one day. Nobody will be angry to be an “April Fool”. But everyone knows to be careful on the first day of April.

The headmaster at my school decided to play an April Fool's joke on the students when I was in high school. On March 31st , she announced（通知） that our school would hold a Dress to Impress day. the higher your marks would be. Girls were told to wear formal dresses and smart jackets, while a suit jacket and tie for each boy would be best.

On April Fool's Day, many of us students came to school dressed in our best clothes. Our hair was tidy and all our shoes were well cleaned. In the morning, all of us got together on the playground, waiting for the headmaster. She would speak to the students. Instead, she wore jeans, running shoes and a T-shirt. The teachers also got dresses casually（随意地）like her.

“” she said, with a big smile on her face. “We just wanted to remind you that teachers have a sense of humor, too!”

Surely, all the teachers weren't April Fools. All us students spent the rest of the day feeling very foolish indeed.

Oliver Twist（雾都孤儿） is one of the most famous stories by Charles Dickens. Set in the century, it is about a boy called Oliver who finds himself in the world. He lives in a special house for poor people and always has an stomach（胃）. One day, he asks for more food and gets into a lot of trouble!

Later, Oliver runs away to London. There, he meets some boys who steal and other things. They teach Oliver to steal too, Oliver does not want to because he is a good child. After many difficulties, Oliver is taken home a kind old man. In the end, Oliver discovers the kind old man is a relative（亲戚）, and he goes to live with in the city.

There are many why Oliver Twist is such a popular story. There is a lot of in the book, and it is also very humorous. The writer was also very good at writing about the lives of poor children in London in the nineteenth century. His book made people care more about the problems of poor children.

A peacock （孔雀）and a tortoise（乌龟） were good friends.

One day, a bird catcher caught the peacock and him on the market. The peacock asked the bird catcher to allow him to say goodbye to his friend the tortoise. The bird catcher agreed.

The peacock saw the tortoise and his tears came out: “I . And I have to leave.”

The tortoise asked the bird catcher to let the peacock , but he refused.

The tortoise then said, “If I give you a nice gift, you my friend go?”

“Certainly,” answered the bird catcher. So the tortoise jumped into the river, and he came up with a big pearl (珍珠) after some time. The bird catcher was so surprised. He was so happy that he let the peacock go.

A few days later, the bird catcher came back to the tortoise. He thought he enough for letting the peacock go. He told the tortoise that he the peacock again unless he got another big pearl.

The tortoise knew that the peacock in a safe place. “Well,” said the tortoise, “please the pearl that I gave you and I will come back with two.”

The bird catcher thought for some time and gave the pearl to the tortoise.

Then the tortoise swam away and said, “I so stupid to take one and give you two!”

The bird catcher only stood by the river and felt sorry: “Why do I lose the pearl that I ?!”

Anyone must pay a price for his greedy (贪婪).

“I don't like my parents. They always tell me I should do this, and should not do that. It sometimes makes me angry,” said Li Hua, a middle school student in Beijing.

Why does it seem that some parents are not so friendly in their children's eyes? One of the biggest things is when someone becomes a parent, he or she likes worrying about things. They worry about everything about you from the time you were born. They do a lot for you, though something would make you angry, because they care about you and worry about you. They worry about your choice of friends, the food you eat, your work at school, how much sleep you get, etc. All these things are part of your life. They want you to grow up healthily and happily.

So how can you make things easier on yourself? It's easier than you think. Just often communicate（交流）with your parents. Make sure your parents know what you're doing. Get them to know your friends. Call them if you stay somewhere else later than usual so that your parents don't call everybody in the phone book for you. Say sorry to them when you make mistakes. Take responsibility（承担责任） for what you have done. Talk about your ideas with them. They may talk about theirs with you.

Most of all try to think about why your parents do this or do that. They are still practicing being parents and need help from you. Someday, when you become a parent, they may be able to help you how to get on well with your children.

I will miss my parents, but I think I can look after myself very well.
