The grottoes, a collection of 492 Buddhist temples carved into the rock walls, are decorated with 45,000 square meters of paintings and more than 2,000 colored statues of ancient Chinese Art. The paintings show beautifully-painted designs in bright emerald-green and amber-orange, witnessing the civilizations of ancient China during the Sui, Tang and Song dynasties. The colored statues with Buddhist themes differ in size, ranging from a few centimeters to 33 meters high, embodying the remarkable imagination of their makers.
