Swimming across the English Channel—the 21-mile-long channel between southern England and northern France— is not an easy thing. Besides the strong ocean currents(洋流), swimmers also have to face temperatures that can change from 18℃ to 6℃. However, don't tell that to Sarah Thomas. The 37-year-old American woman recently became the first person ever to swim the English Channel four times without stop.
What makes Thomas even greater is that just a year ago, in 2018, she survived (幸存)serious illness. She said that fighting the strong currents was hard. "But even worse is dealing with the saltwater … it really hurts your throat(咽喉), your mouth and your tongue," she said.
Thomas's journey began just past midnight on Sunday, September 15, 2019. The swim was about 80 miles at the beginning. However, strong currents add the total distance by about 50 miles. When Thomas came out from the water at 6: 30 am local time on Tuesday, September 17, 2019, she was in the water for 54 hours and 13 minutes and swam a total of 133 miles!
There was a ship with GPS and computers to record wind, tides and currents with Thomas all the time. It guided her through the water. Her mother and husband were on the ship. During her swimming, Thomas took a rest every 30 to 60 minutes.

One day, the students of Class 6 were reading in the classroom. Mrs. Brown came in and told the whole class they would have to change the 1 the next week. All of the students disagreed 2 Mrs. Brown, so they shouted when Mrs. Brown said it was because a new student would 3 the class. "Why must we move to another classroom just because someone new is coming?" One of them asked 4. Mrs. Brown stood there without saying anything. After a few minutes, she told them to be 5 to their new classmate and then she left.
The following week, the head teacher, Mr White himself brought the new student to their class. 6,he pushed the new student to the class because the student was in a wheelchair(轮椅). Over time, they began to understand the reason. Jeff was a9 student and often helped the students who didn't understand their work. The class felt very thankful to him. They took care of him because they knew that when someone did something for you, you should do something 10 in return.
When I was in high school I met my lifelong teacher Margaret. She was a great teacher, she was always (幽默的) and kind to us, and we didn't feel (紧张的) when we stayed with her.
One day, Marguerite asked us about our (梦想). And I never thought about that question at that time. I was really interested in painting, but I didn't paint very well and I always told myself it was (不可能的) to be a painter. So I told Margaret that I want to be an artist. I believed painting could bring me a lot of (快乐) although my poor painting never (满足) me. (也许)I would never have my success in the future.
The next day Margaret invited me to her house after school. I was surprised to see many famous paintings there. she said to me: "Mike, I know you love painting, if you really love it, you should be (积极的) to learn more about it, don't give up." Then I took (参与) in our school art club. And finally I went into a top university. I thanked Margaret a lot and I also felt so (自豪的) of myself.
Lots of kids hate school, a new study found. Usually this kind of feeling doesn't last long. But what happens if you feel this way too much? School is a fact of life and getting a good education can help you build the kind of future life you want. So let's talk about school and what to do when you dislike it.
If you don't like school, the first step is to find out why. You might not like school because you don't have enough friends, or maybe you don't get along with your teachers. Sometimes it's a big problem with your classes and schoolwork. You may be getting farther and farther behind, and it may seem like you'll never catch up.
When you know why you don't like school you can start taking steps to make things better. It's a good idea to talk to someone about your problems with school. Your mom dad, teachers or school counselors (顾问) will be able to help you. Another good idea is to write down your feelings about school in notebook. It's great way to let out emotions (情绪). Remember, you don't' have to share what you've written with others.
