Tara: Did you like the singing competition last night, Sam?
Sam: Oh, it was fantastic! Nelly sang so well!
Tara: Well, I think Lisa sang better than Nelly.
Sam: Oh, which one was Lisa?
Tara: The one with shorter hair. I think she sang more clearly than Nelly.
Sam: Yes, but Nelly danced better than Lisa.
Tara: You can tell that Lisa really wanted to win, though.
Sam: Well, everyone wants to win. But the most important thing is to learn something new and have fun.

Last Sunday, Dad and I went to the park to see a dog show. We saw all kinds of dogs running around when we the park.
There were different kinds of games at the dog show. One of the games was a talent show. They tried to find the most dog by watching how the dogs looked and acted. Finally they decided the was a dog named Shasta. In another game, the dogs had to follow the orders. They had to jump over things and run as fast as they could. A black dog ran really fast, but he didn't follow the orders, so he got . A white dog won the game. He followed the orders very well and finished quickly.
When time for lunch came, we went home happily. I thought we had a time.
The seasons in Australia are not like ours. When it is winter in China, it is summer there. Australia is a southern country, it is in the south of the world. July and August are the winter months; September, October and November are spring, the summer is in January, February and December, and March, April and May are the autumn months. The north of the country is hotter than the south.
A very large part of this country has no rain at all. The east coast(海岸地区) has rain all year round, and there are no dry months there. The southeast winds blows here all the year. They bring rain from the sea. There is not much rain on the west side. The southeastern part of Australia has summer rain from the southeast winds. They only blow here in summer.
The southwestern part of Australia has winter rain. The west winds blow over the southwest in winter only. In summer, the southwest of the country has no rain. In the north of Australia, there is no rain in winter. The rain comes in summer. The northwest winds bring it.

The world's first "flying car" will soon appear in the market--It will be yours for just $127, 000.
The Terrafugia Transition is a light sport plane with four wheels and foldable (可折叠的) wings. It can fly up through the skies just like a usual plane, then land on the ground, fold up its two wings and drive down the road at highway speeds.
It is 19 feet long and can fly a distance of 460 miles, with a top speed of 115 mph in the air and 60 mph on the highway. According to early reports, the plane uses common gas -no rocket fuels (燃料) are necessary. It gets its power through the 100 horsepower four-stroke Rotax 912S engine.
It is about as wide as most usual cars except the folded gliders (滑翔机). The Terrafugia Transition can be put into most garages and drive on the road. A special code from a pilots license (执照) is needed to get the wings to unfold.
Interested pilots (yes, you need to be a licensed flyer or a driver with a pilot's license to buy one) can get an order of the "flying car" (or the highway plane) for $6, 500. It is planned to be finished towards the end of the year.
Long long ago there was a thief. Do you know what he did one day? When he wanted to steal(偷)the bell on his neighbour's door, he walked up to the door, took hold of(抓住)the bell and pulled hard. The bell made a very loud noise. The thief was afraid and went home.
Then he sat down to think. "I must do something about the noise," he said. He thought and thought. At last he had an idea, "Ah, I'll put some cotton(棉花)in my ears. Then I won't be able to hear the noise." The next day he went to the door of his neighbour, and took hold of the bell. This time he pulled even harder. The bell rang loudly, but the thief did not hear anything. With another hard pull he got the bell off the door. Just then the neighbour came out.
"Steal my bell? I'll teach you a lesson," the angry man shouted. And he hit the thief on the nose.
The thief did not know how the neighbour found out he was stealing the bell." Why did he come out just then?" he wondered.
