We were standing at the top of a church tower. My father had bought me to this place in a small Italian town far from home in Rome. I wondered 1.
"Look, Alice," my father said. I gathered all my courage and 2. I saw the square in the centre of the town. And I saw many streets around it.
"See, my dear," my father said gently. "There is 3 one way to the square. Life is like that. If you can't get to the place where you want to go by one road, try 4. "
Now I understood why I was there. Earlier that day I had begged my mother to do 5 about the lunch at school. Because she is the head of our school. But she 6. Because she couldn't believe the lunch was as bad as I said. When I turned to father for help, he said nothing 7 brought me here to give me a lesson—the value of an open mind. By the time we reached home, I had a 8. At school the next day, I secretly poured my lunch soup into a bottle and brought it home.
Then I asked the cook to serve it to my mother at dinner. The plan worked 9. Mother had just one spoonful and shouted, "The cook must have gone mad!"
Quickly I told her the truth. Mother said she would 10 the matter the next day.

Dear Mom,
I'm happy to get your letter (信). I'm very well at school. Do you want to know about my after class time? Well, the classes finish at half past four. We have different activities (不同的活动) after class. I usually go to the library and read books on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It's relaxing. I usually play pingpong with my classmates on Wednesdays. I'm not good at it, but I like it. On Fridays, I always go to the art club, because I like drawing. I can draw dogs well now. We usually have dinner at six o'clock.
In the evening, we study in the classroom from 7:00 to 8:30. We usually do our homework. Science is difficult, but my friend Alan helps me with it. I often either listen to music or talk with my roommates (室友) before bedtime (就寝前). Then we go to bed at ten o'clock.
Remember (记得) to pick me up (接我) at five o'clock on Friday afternoon.
Yours,
Cindy
