Life on the earth depends on the sun. Day after day, we see its light and feel its warmth. The sun is far away from the earth. It is ninety-three million miles away from the earth. The sun is a large star. The earth is very small among its planets. Every day the sun sends out a great deal of heat and makes us feel hot. But we receive only a small part of the heat, because the sun is so far away from us and its heat loses more of its energy(能量) when it reaches the earth. We also receive a very small part of its light. This is enough for the growth of trees, plants, and humans. On the other hand, much heat and light would do harm(危害) to them. The heat and light from the sun come in just the right quantities(数量) for life on the earth.

Life is not easy, so I'd like to say, "When anything happens, believe in yourself."
When I was a young boy, I was too to talk to anyone. My classmates often laughed at me. I was sad but could do . Later, something happened, and it changed my life. It was an English speaking contest. My mother asked me to join in it. What a idea. It meant I had to speak in front of all the teachers and students of my school!
"Come on, boy. Believe in yourself. You are sure to . "Then mother and I talked about many different kinds of topics(话题). At last I the topic "Believe in yourself". I tried to practise it as many as I could.
With my mother's great love, I did well and won the prize. I heard the cheers from the teachers and students. My mother hugged me and shouted .
From then on, everything changed for me. I do anything, I will try to believe in myself and give more to myself. This is true not only for a person but also for a country.
Oregon firefighters putting out wildfires across the state have a new "force" on their team: a plush (绒毛) Baby Yoda doll. It has become a symbol of hope and joy among the firefighters. They have been tirelessly fighting the big wildfire since early September. The fire has killed at least nine firefighters.
It all began when five-year-old Carver and his grandmother found the plush toy at home while searching for something to donate (捐赠) to Oregon firefighters.
The toy, along with a note saying, "Thank you, firefighters. Here is a friend for you if you get lonely. Love, Carver," was handed to donation site on September 12, 2020. "We were all really moved that Carver wanted to give a companion to the men and women who were risking their lives to fight the wildfires." says a volunteer Tyler Eubanks.
Eubanks took the toy to a group of firefighters working to put out the fire in Colton, Oregon. At the beginning, she planned to take a few pictures of the Baby Yoda in action for Carver, and then bring back the toy to the donation site. However, the firefighters decided to hold on to the doll and share it to lift the spirits of firefighters across the state and also those fighting fires in Colorado.
"He's been a really big encouragement," said Drake, a firefighter. "It just really meant a lot to us, and it was really emotional for a lot of people."
It's not just the firefighters that are finding comfort in the doll. "Baby Yoda Fights Fires," a Facebook page Eubanks set up to record the toy's adventures as it spreads through different people, has won over 50,000 fans, many of whom look forward to the daily updates.
"Because of all these photos, people are now seeing the human faces behind the wildfires," Eubanks said in excitement. "The attention is giving firefighters a huge encouragement, which is something that's really needed right now."

In children's eyes, mother is perfect. In my mind, my mother is good at doing everything except 1. I still remember what happened on my father's 40th birthday when I was young.
My mother made a special plan for the important day. She did some cleaning early in the morning and made the house pretty with some flowers. Then she went shopping for a big meal. She began to cook just 2 finishing a long shopping list. Three hours later, only two dishes were 3 on the table一a salad and a pancake in a strange shape. We all expected to have the roast(烤的)duck as soon as possible 4 it was our favorite. Unluckily, the duck was 5 nice in color delicious in taste. How disappointed I fell! Feeling so sorry, my mother promised to prepare another one at once. To 6 surprise, my father didn't complain at all. Instead, he ate one more piece of the duck and smiled at my mother, "Good taste, I love it! Thank you, dear! It's the 7 roast duck I have ever had!" Mother smiled happily and said, "Happy birthday, my dear!"
I couldn't understand what my father said and did at that time. 8 has passed and my father has become a 50—year—old man. He still loves the food my mother cooks, though she hasn't become a good cook yet. As time goes by, I come to know that 9 is perfect, including my mother. Nothing is perfect, including my family. But love can 10. If there is love, home will become the sweetest place in the world.
"What! You, too? I thought I was the only one. "Have you ever said this to someone? If so, you may have ended up becoming friends with this person.
It seems that similarity often helps form friendships. The Greek philosopher (哲学家) Aristotle once said, "Some define (下定义) it 'friendship' as a matter of similarity; they say that we love those who are like ourselves."
Now, there is some science behind this idea. Scientists from University of California said friends have similar brains, Scientific American reported.
The scientists invited 42 university students to take part in an experiment. Each student watched the same set of videos, which included a comedy, a discussion and a soccer match. Meanwhile, scientists study their brains and recorded their brain activity.
According to their study, friends who watched the same video clips reacted in similar ways. Similar parts of their brains lit up while watching the videos, especially parts that are connected with motivation (动力), learning and memory.
However, people who weren't friends had different reactions to the same clips.
Having close friends whose brains read like ours "may be rewarding because it makes one's own values, opinions, and interests strength," lead scientist Carolyn Parkinson told Business Insider.
But brain similarity is not the only thing that can result in friendship. Scientists from the University of Leipzig, Germany, found that friendship is also based on how physically close you are to someone.
They did an experiment with first-year college students who met in class for the first time. In this experiment, students who sat in neighboring seats were more likely to become friends.

How do we know about things that happened thousands of years ago when there were no videos or photos? One answer is written records. And the original written records of Chinese culture are known as oracle bone inscriptions(甲骨文).
Tens of thousands of oracle bones have been found so far. They can tell us a lot of things about how people lived during the Shang Dynasty. "They help us understand the beginnings of Chinese philosophy(哲学) and thought, and find out where our culture comes from." Song Zhenhao, a leading oracle bone expert, told China Daily.
In addition to telling us about ancient Chinese culture, the oracle bones are also the key to understanding the growth and development of the written form of the Chinese language. Many of the characters we use today are similar to those oracle bone inscriptions used over 3,000 years ago. "The oracle bone inscriptions, as the earliestknown form of Chinese characters, show the beauty and uniqueness(独一无二) of a language that has been passed down from generation to generation," said Chen Nan, a professor at Tsinghua University.
In 2017, UNESCO(联合国教科文组织) added oracle bone inscriptions to its Memory of the World Register(《世界记忆名录》). They are really a valuable memory of ancient China and important to us Chinese. That's why there are many experts who are studying oracle bone inscriptions now. As they study, people learn more things about ancient China.

Oh, the rain! How Sara hates the rain! She cannot go outside to meet her friends for a game. Her mother says to her, "You may catch a cold if you play in the rain." But Sara shouts, "It's raining, but it's very hot outside!" her mother still doesn't let her out in the rain.

Do you remember playing stickball or jumping rope in the street? Neighborhood streets used to be children's playgrounds but traffic was the problem. Now one organization wants to bring those back to kids by temporarily closing local streets to traffic and letting kids play outside.
Playing is important but community buildings end the fun. So here came Play Streets. Play Streets began in Bristol in 2009 with just one street. The idea grew with its success. It really took off in 2011 with support from The Funding Network and now thousands of people across the UK are taking part in the activity and playing in the streets. Later Play Streets became a global movement and it is spreading like wildfire.
"Our society has changed and communities are having higher levels of isolation and kids aren't playing outside as much as before. But Play Streets gives people a place to have street meetings and parties or simply a place to play for a few hours," Valli Morphett, the chief executive of Co Design Studios said.
You can bring Play Streets to your street in your neighborhood too. Get a group of neighbors together to organize activities and you can even ask local schools to help plan your activities. But you just can't put up a sign and close your street to traffic. Before you start you should consider the following question to make sure Play Streets will go well. Is the local government supportive? You should do the necessary paperwork with the local government so that rules are followed. The local government is likely to accept the activity and may make it easy to close the street. Once the government agreed, it's time for fun. Bring toys and supplies, get the word out and get each organizer to take action.
