    A science fiction flying car looks like a normal car, but it is an aircraft (飞行器) that anybody can fly directly from any place to another without using roads or runways. Science fiction writers have written about flying cars for a long time. But now flying cars will soon fly out of the world of science fiction into our real world. And the dream of the science fiction writers will soon come true.

    The first-known sky car is the FSC-1. The FSC-1 looks like an expensive sports car. You can drive the FSC-1 on the road like a normal car. If you touch a button, its wings and propeller (螺旋桨) fold out and then it can take off, fly and land as an airplane. The owners of the FSC-1 can choose if they want to drive or fly.

    Another flying car or sky car is the Moller Skycar M400. Although you can't drive it on the roads, it is s mall and easy to fly and can take off and land like a helicopter (直升飞机). Urban Aeronautics' X-Hawk is another type of sky car. It is expected to be available for about $3 million.

    Just like any new technology, flying cars have taken a long time to be developed. But some experts think the technology is far from what people imagine when they are sitting in traffic. It still needs to be improved.

    Life in the future will be different from life today. Between then and now many changes will take place, but what will the changes1? The population is growing fast. What will the home of the future look like? A team of architects in Hong Kong say that city homes will be tiny, as populations continue to grow and space becomes more expensive.

They have designed "spaceflats" that are only 30 square metres in size. These flats have small rooms: a living room, a bathroom and a bedroom, as well as a balcony (阳台), but everything is carefully planned to make good use of the limited space.

The living room is the main room of the flat. It can be used as an office, a kitchen or even a second bedroom. There is a sofa that can be changed into a bed. The dining table can be changed into a computer desk. And, if not needed, both the sofa-bed and the table can be folded away (折叠收拢). There is a flat-screen TV, which can also serve as a computer monitor. You can't see the cooker, the microwave and the small refrigerator because they are all hidden out of sight.

The other rooms are small but practical (实用的). The bathroom contains a toilet and shower. The double bed in the bedroom can also be a sofa, if necessary. The balcony has enough space for two people to sit and you may see an amazing fountain on it. All the rooms have high ceiling to provide as much storage (存储) space as possible, while the flat has large windows to let in plenty of sunlight.

"Spaceflats" are now being tested in a building in Hong Kong. "It's wonderful,” said one citizen, "The flat is so well designed that you feel that there is plenty of space."

    It was one o'clock in the morning when I at last succeeded in creating life.

    As I looked at the lifeless human being, I saw one eye slowly open. Then he began to breathe and move his arms. At first, I thought he would be a fine-looking man. He had yellow skin, black hair and very white teeth. Unluckily, his eyes were watery, and his lips were thin and colorless. I soon realized that there was nothing beautiful about him. I ran out of the room, disgusted(恶心) by the creature I had created. I tried to sleep, but for hours I could not. Then, when I did get to sleep, I had bad dreams. When I awoke the next morning, I did not want to return to my laboratory and the monster I had created. I went for a long walk until I came to an inn. There, to my pleasure and surprise, I found my friend, Henry Clerical. "Tell me about my family," I asked him. "And Elizabeth, How is she?"

    "They are all well, Frankenstein," he said. "But you do not look well; my friend. Your eyes look as if you have not slept for many weeks."

    I knew this was true. "I have been so busy," I explained, "that I have been working without rest." Henry walked back with me to my department. I did not want him to, but I could not stop him. I was afraid that the creature I had left there might be alive and walking about. When we reached my apartment, I asked Henry to wait outside for a few minutes. I did not explain why. I slowly opened the door and entered the room. To my surprise, it was empty. The creature had gone. I was so overcome by

the feeling that I fainted. I was ill for many months.

    During my illness, Henry was my only nurse. He heard me talking in my sleep about a monster. At first, he thought I was just having a bad dream, but then he realized that something very bad happened in my life. At last, I began to get better.

When we watch movies about the future, we sometimes see robots. They are usually like human servants. They help with the housework and do jobs like working1 dirty or dangerous places.

Today there are already robots working in factories. Some2 help to build cars, and they do simple jobs over and over again. Fewer people3such jobs in the future because they are boring, but robots will never get bored.

Scientists are now trying4robots look like humans and do the same things as we do. Some robots in Japan can walk and dance. They are fun to watch. However, some scientists believe that5we can make robots move like people, it will be difficult to make them really think like a human. For example, scientist James White thinks that robots will never be able to wake up and know where they are. But many scientists disagree with Mr. White. They think that robots will even be able to talk like humans625 to 50 years.

Some scientists believe that there will be more robots in the future. However, they agree it may take 7years. These new robots will have many different shapes. Some will look like humans, and8 might look like animals. In India, for example, scientists made robots9look like snakes. If buildings fall down with people inside, these snake robots can help look for people under the buildings. This was not possible 20 years ago, but computers and rockets also seemed10100 years ago. We never know what will happen in the future!
