You say you plan to have a pet. I think it's a good idea. In the USA, keeping pets is very 1. More than 2 of the families have their pets. They keep many different kinds of animals. Most of them keep dogs 3 their pets. There are about 65 4 pet dogs in the country. It means that 5about 40% of America families keep pets dogs.
People are always kind to their pets. They think pets are 6 of their family, and give them the best food. Some pets are too 7. They need to lose their weight! Isn't it interesting? And of course, they also have 8 for pets. And being a doctor there is many people's wish.
It is interesting to have a pet. But you should be 9 to love your pet when you get one. They are our friends. They will 10 you much fun if you love it.

Expert(专家) say that students usually need eight to ten hours' sleep at night, but most Chinese students do not get enough sleep. Some Chinese parents are usually glad to see their children studying late. They will think their children work very hard, but not all parents are happy about this. Once a mother told us that every morning her 10-year-old boy put up one finger (手指)with his eyes still closed, begging(请求) for one more minute to sleep. Like thousands of students “ early birds” in China, he has to get up before six every morning.
A report shows that without a good night's sleep, students seem to be weaker (虚弱)than they should be. Many students have fallen asleep during class at one time or another. Too much homework is not the only reason why students stay up late. Some watch TV or play the computer games late into the night.
Experts have ever said that the students should keep good study habits. So some clever students never study late, they are able to work well in class.
"USA? Britain? Which country is better to study in?" We often hear such discussions. As China opens its doors, studying abroad has become a dream for many Chinese students.
It's true that studying abroad can help students develop themselves. Language skills will improve and it may be easier to find jobs.
Language is the first. Students must spend a lot of time learning another language and getting used to a different culture.
Students must also learn to live without parents' care and deal with all kinds of things they haven't had to do before, like looking after themselves. There are reports about Chinese students abroad sinking into an ocean of difficulties and giving up easily.
Finally, studying abroad brings a heavy burden(负担) to the family. For most Chinese parents, the cost of studying abroad is very high. But is it worth it?
We know that there are many famous people who succeed in great things through their hard work in China.Once an American teacher invited him there but he refused. He kept training hard with his Chinese teacher. He surprised the world when he won a gold medal(金牌) at the Athens Olympics. So when you wonder which country is better to study in, consider whether studying abroad is the right choice(选择).
A. Liu Xiang is a good example.
B. They want to learn about the world.
C. Let's talk about some foreign customs.
D. But there are problems that should be considered(考虑).
E. When they have to take care of themselves, it is hard for students to study well.
Sports are all around us. We watch and read sports news. There are also sports clubs and even sports-only channels (频道) on TV. In many countries, players make millions of dollars every year.
Sports play an important role in our daily lives. But why are sports so popular? They're only games, right?
We have made a survey. Here are the readers' answers from all over the world.
Vlad (Ukraine)
Sports bring people together. In 2006, our team was able to play in the 2006 World Cup for me first time. Everyone was very happy. Rich and poor, old and young, men and women—everyone was in the streets—having celebrations together!
Mike (USA)
Sports bring people together, but they divide (分离) them too. Fans of different teams fight all the time—they shout and hit each other. And here's an example: My brother plays high school baseball. Last week, his team played an important game. At the game, two parents fought about a decision (判决). Come on…Baseball is only a game!
Sports are so competitive (竞争性的) these days. It's all about winning. Then the game isn't fun at all.
Ahtoh (Russia)
Right now, some of the world's best soccer players are from European countries, and the 2018 FIFA World Cup games will be held in Russia. Yes, some players make a lot of money—maybe too much, but sporting events (like the World Cup) bring not only tourists but also money to these host countries. And that is good for Russia.
In April,2018,Teen World Magazine asked students to take a survey about how pets play a part in their lives Over 6, 400 teenagers looked through survey on our website and 371 students took part in it and fully completed the survey.
Here are some of the results.
91%of students have a pet The types of pets are different.
My Family Was Against Owning a Pet was the#1 mason(34%)of Why students did not own an animal Other top reasons are allergies(过敏)and pets cost too much money.
89.5%of students support animal rights.
67%of teens like dogs better than cats.
66 of young people report that a pet's death is the hardest thing about owning an animal, other hard things like day-to-care,the cost or other reasons.
To see all the results, you can go to our website to download the full survey report.
I am a reporter from Beijing TV station. I want to know what people like to 1. So I interviewed 100 people about it. Here is the 2.
Twenty people like to watch CCTV's programs, 3 the news channel, because they can know the 4 news in the world. About ten people prefer CCTV-3 programs, because they 5 music and dancing very much. About fifteen people say that they like to watch the 6 channel(频道). They can enjoy the most exciting movies at home. They 7 think it is the cheapest way to enjoy movies. Some old people say they like operas most, 8, Beijing Opera, so they like to watch the opera channel. About five people 9 that they don't mind which channel to watch.
So if our TV station wants to have a larger 10, we should try to make the best program.
In Jinzhong, Shanxi Province, there is a group of people who are busy drawing maps around. They are not workers on geography, but dispatchers(调度员) on Emergency(急救) Center of the city.
Since 2007, the dispatchers in the center have been drawing maps of the local areas.
"A dispatcher's job is counted in seconds," says Liang Ruimei, a dispatcher in the center. She has been working in the center since it started in 2007. "We must answer the phone in 3 seconds, get clear information about the patient in 60 seconds and dispatch(调度) emergency medical workers in 3 minutes at most. If we save one second, the patient may have a better chance to live."
Although nowadays the center has electronic maps, the dispatchers still walk through the streets to draw maps by hand.
After many years' hard work, the dispatchers keep every building and street of the city in mind. They even know whether or not a car can enter the gate of a building. Sometimes the caller can't tell clearly where he is, but it doesn't matter. As long as he describes the buildings around, the dispatcher can dispatch emergency medical workers to him.
"We are trying to be quicker than Death," says Liang.
Mike Isaac and I are reporters of Student Daily. For the topics of our newspaper next month visited Sunshine Elementary School on May 10. We interviewed some students and here is what they

Chinese Farmers' Harvest (收获,收割) Festival is the first festival in China for farmers. The festival starting from 2018, falls on the Autumnal Equinox (秋分) each year. The Autumnal Equinox is one of the 24 solar terms(节气) of the Chinese lunar calendar and usually falls between September 22nd and 24th, during the country's harvest season.
As we all know, China has the largest population all over the world. It was difficult to feed the largest population in the past. After reform and opening (改革开放), with the development of modern agriculture (农业), people's life is getting better and better, and their living conditions have improved a lot. Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival shows that our government is paying more attention to agriculture and farmers' life. It will greatly encourage farmers to farm and develop further modem agriculture. China has a long history of agriculture. Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival, the cultural symbol, helps to show China's long farming culture to the world. It also connects the excellent traditional Chinese culture to modem civilization (文明) and improves the cultural self-confidence and national pride.
Since the festival is especially created for farmers, they are encouraged to think of their own ways to celebrate harvest. Some activities are held across the country, but most of the celebrations will take place at a local level that comes from local customs. Also, local government usually hosts all kinds of activities for the festival, such as folk culture performances, food tasting and so on.
Some people think the festival is the happiest time of a year, even better than the Spring Festival, because food gives people a sense of safety and hope. For other people, the harvest festival is a time to look back at the past and look forward to the future.
Many of us may have experienced the pleasant surprise of seeing recommended(推荐的) songs after you listen to certain songs on a music app. When we open shopping websites, we are more likely to see things on the home page that we might want to buy.
This is based on data(数据). Date is no longer only about numbers, but information from almost every aspect of our lives: our location, shopping habits and interests. All of this is called "big data”.
In December, President Xi Jinping called for China to speed up its big data strategy(战略) in order to better serve social and economic development and improve people' s lives, the Xinhua News Agency reported. He also asked for greater use of big data in areas like education, social security(安全) and transportation.
The past few years have seen big data being used more often in China. The role it plays in tourism is just one example.
The data travelers share online is providing the tourism industry with a lot of information about the country's scenic areas. After the data is analyzed(分析), different scenic areas can create their own online profiles(简况) for other travelers to see.
The profiles not only show travelers' reviews, but also tell the scenic areas which services need to be improved.
Big data is also an important growth engine(增长引擎) for economic development. With an annual growth rate of 30 percent, sales of big data services and products in China will reach 1 trillion yuan yearly by 2020, China News Service reported.
LONDON (Reuters) — Organic (有机的) fruit, sent right to the home. That is what Gabriel Gold prefers, and he is willing to pay for it. If this is not possible, the 26-year-old computer engineer will spend more money at the supermarket to buy organic food.
"Organic food is always better," Gold said. "The food is free of pesticides (农药), and you are generally for family farms instead of large farms. And often it is locally grown and seasonal, so it is more tasty." Gold is one of a growing number of shoppers buying the organic fruit, and supermarkets across Britain are depending more on people like him. But how many shoppers really know what they are getting, and why are they willing to pay a higher price for organic food? Market research shows that Gold and others who buy organic food can generally give clear reasons for their choices — but their knowledge of organic food is far from complete. For example, small amounts of pesticides can be used on organic food. And about three quarters of organic food in Britain is not local but imported (进口) to meet growing needs. "The needs for organic food are increasing by about one third every year, so it is a very fast-growing market," said Sue Flock, a specialist in this business.
On the morning of 16th April, 2014, at eight fifty-eight, a passenger ship carrying 470 people, mostly high school students, sank off South Korea's southern Wednesday, leaving at least 296 people dead and 8 others missing.
Just one year later, the same tragedy happened in China. A passenger ship carrying 454 people sank Monday in the Hubei section of China's Yangtze River.
The ship, named Dongfangzhixing (Eastern Star), sank at around nine twenty-eight p.m. in the Jianli ( Hubei Province) section of the Yangtze River, according to the Yangtze River navigation administration. The captain and the chief engineer, who have been rescued, both claimed that the ship sank quickly after being caught in a cyclone (旋风). The ship was heading from Nanjing to southwest Chinas Chongqing city. There were 403 Chinese passengers, five travel agency workers and 46 crew members aboard. Most of the passengers are group tourists aged between 50 and 80 organized by a travel agency in Shanghai. More than ten rescue ships are searching for the survivors, but only 12 people have been rescued. Rescue work is hampered by strong wind and heavy rain.

Tokyo Olympic torch(火炬)relay starts. F. Tokyo Paralympics torch relay to be held in Japan's 4 prefectures. |
Drivers to Dapeng for the Qingming Festival holiday between Saturday and Monday will not have to order in advance. However, they will still need to ask for a spot for their vehicles to Shenzhen Fairy Lake Botanical Garden, police warned Thursday.
Drinking strong coffee — half an hour before exercise can increase fat-burning, according to a new study published in the Magazine of the International Society of Sports Nutrition(营养).
According to meteorological(气象学的) methods for calculating seasons, summer in the city likely began on, what might be the earliest date in this city's history, March 25, the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory said yesterday.
Tokyo 2020 organizing committee(主委会) said that unlike the Olympic torch relay, which covers Japan's all 47 local governments, the Paralympics(残奥会) torch relay will only pass the four hosting regions of Tokyo, Shizuoka, Chiba and Saitama between Aug. 17 and 24.
Chinese musician Lyu Kanzhe will give a night of chiba music at the theater in MixC World. The chiba is one of the oldest Chinese woodwind instruments. It is a type of xiao, or flute. The shakuhachi is a Japanese chiba which was originally introduced to Japan from China in the eighth century and grew in the early Edo Period (1603-1868).
It was only March, but 16-year-old Hita thought that life wouldn't return to normal for a long time. To support lonely seniors, she began giving packages to nursing homes in her town in Pennsylvania.
"When I received a call from the nursing home I've been volunteering at telling me I couldn't visit any more because of the pandemic, I couldn't stop thinking about these seniors and the loneliness and anxiety they felt being isolated." Hita told CNN. "I knew I needed to remind them that they weren't alone, and I did everything I could to make sure they knew that."
Hita's efforts are a part of the organization Brighten A Day, which she started in 2018 to "spread joy to seniors and children in the hospital". With the help of other volunteers, she sent out almost 100,000 handwritten cards and packages to nursing homes in countries including Ireland, Australia, and Canada. They also make videos in which they tell jokes, play music, read poetry, or sing. They also call the seniors to make sure they have someone to talk to.
"________." Hita said. "A lot of the seniors cried when they opened the packages and read our cards. It's changing people's lives at a time when they need it the most."
Some of the seniors receiving packages live at the Woodbury Senior Living in Minnesota. Its director, Kathy, told CNN, "No one could imagine someone so young coming up with these ideas, but Hita found a way. The seniors don't feel alone. Instead, we see their expressions of joy and thanks knowing that someone out there is caring for them. So, Brighten A Day really does brighten a day."

AI is a double-edged sword. It can help us, but also cause us harm. Who is using AI? Is AI replacing humans? What should we do to avoid the risks and dangers that AI might bring?
Artificial intelligence is set to benefit mankind in many ways. It will make everyday tasks easier and bring efficiency to various industries. It might just prove to be one of man's greatest inventions.
And yet, like any other technology, ▲ . In February 2018, a group of AI experts got together to discuss the possible misuse of AI. What they found was that "Every AI advance by the good guys is an advance for the bad guys, too," according to Quartz.
Their biggest concern was that criminals (罪犯) could use AI for wrongful purposes. One of the areas they looked at was the use of AI to create websites that could be used to steal people's personal information. Another possibility is that AI programs could be taught to hack software and break into computer secure systems.
There are some other concerns as well. It is possible that AI could be used to create fake images and videos. Chinese tech giant Baidu, in fact, has developed a program called Deep Voice that can "clone" anyone's voice by studying a 3.7-second audio sample.
Many leading figures in the tech world have expressed concern about AI. People like Bill Gates and Elon Musk have called for the industry to be more strictly regulated, as there are few laws right now on the use of AI.
However, this is set to change. In March 2018, the European Union plans to set up a group that will discuss the moral and ethical dangers of advanced AI – and hopefully, suggest some regulations that will help us keep it safe for mankind.
China launched the Shenzhou 13 manned spacecraft at 12:23 am, October 16th, 2021 by a Long March 2F carrier rocket at the Jiuquan center, carrying three astronauts who will stay inside the country's Tiangong space station for six months.
It' is expected to be the longest space journey by Chinese astronauts, doubling the time of their peers in the Shenzhou 12 mission. It is transporting Major General Zhai Zhigang, the mission cammander, Senior Colonel Wang Yaping and Senior Colonel Ye Guangfu to Tiangong's core module Tianhe, or Harmony of Heavens. They will give us a wonderful space class for the second lime.
Wang is China's second female astronaut to participate in a spaceflight and was a member of the Shenzhou 5 mission in June 2013. She will become the first Chinese woman to enter the Tiangong space station and conduct a spacewalk.
Zhai is the country's first astronaut to take a spacewalk, having done so when he was mission commander during the Shenzhou 7 mission in September 2008. Ye is making his first journey to space.

I spent a year in Beijing as a student in the late 1990s and I recently went back there on holiday. I couldn't believe the changes which had taken place in such a short time and the qualities(品质) I admire in Chinese people are their wish to succeed, their family values and their sense of responsibility(责任感). I think these qualities will be very important if China is to continue developing. |
