    Chinese Dragon Boat Festival is also known as Duanwu Festival.It is one of the three most important lunar (阴历的) festivals in China, along with Spring Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival.

    The date of the festival is said to be the date when Qu Yuan died-the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, so the date varies from year to year, such as it is June 20 in 2015, June 9 in 2016,May 30 in 2017,June 18 in 2018,June 7 in 2019,June 25 in 2020 and June 14 in 2021.

    Although the date is different, the custom is the same. With a history of over 2000 years, people celebrate it with all kinds of activities on the day.     The first Chinese actor captured (征服) the hearts of many Chinese in the USA. He read a letter by Zhuge Liang (181～234) to the emperor of Shuhan during the Three Kingdoms (220~280) period in the new season of Growling Tiger and Roaring Dragon (《虎啸龙吟》).

    The letter has been read by so many students. We would never have thought that the text written in old Chinese could be so beautifully read in another language. As a result, foreigners begin to show interest in Romance of the Three Kingdoms, translated by C. H. Brewitt-Taylor and Robert E. Hegel.

    Earlier in November 1979, pupils in England were able to watch a new TV programme called Monkey. Most of them were hearing the story for the first time. However, the story of the Monkey King isn't new to Chinese children in the traditional Chinese book Journey to the West.

A community becomes better when people love it enough to improve it. Helping your community makes life better for your family and other people who live in it.

Save energy(能源) and water. This will be good for your community's development. Turn off your lights when you're not using them and take shorter showers.

Do some research. Maybe there's a river in your community that's so polluted that no one can swim there. Whatever it is, work out what needs to be solved where you live.

Choose a way to help. Once you've found out the problem, decide how you can fix it, such as through the local radio or the TV station to report the problem.

To achieve these, you'll probably need some help and money. Ask around to make sure who is as excited to make a difference as you are.

Volunteer for a group. Sharing your time is an excellent way to improve your community, and to keep good relationships with your community members.

Baseball is one of the favourite sports in the USA. Children play baseball in sports field or parks.

Has your mother or grandmother ever made embroidered（刺绣的）clothes for you? In the past, Chinese people often embroidered on hats, shoes and dresses to show the beauty of nature or the best wishes to others. Some girls would even embroider on a sachet（香囊）as a gift for their lovers.

Shu embroidery comes from Sichuan. It is said that Shu embroidery is the oldest kind of embroidery in China. People began to make it during the Han Dynasty（206 BC—220 AD）. They sold it to other countries such as ancient Rome.

Shu embroidery takes time. It might take as long as a whole day to finish just 10 cm. Embroidery workers need to divide each silk thread（丝线）into more than 10 or even 30 smaller threads. Each smaller thread is thinner than a human hair.

Meng Dezhi, who used to work at the Chengdu Shu Embroidery Factory, has been making Shu embroidery for 40 years. She loves this form of art and wants more people to try it, so she gives lessons in universities. She said, "Although the work is hard, Shu embroidery stands for thousands of years of Sichuan culture. It is a symbol of Chinese culture as well."

Tai chi is a symbol of Chinese culture. It was first (develop)in China as wushu, but it's becoming one of  most popular sports around the world. It's practiced by over 100 million people in more than 150  (country).

Tai chi is a mix of breathing, meditation (冥想) and  / sləʊ/ movements. As you make your movements, you breathe  (deep) and naturally with meditation. This helps you /fri:/ yourself from relax and pressure (压力).

Caitlin, a young German beginner, says, "Tai chi is a fun exercise, easy to learn, and you don't have to be good  it to enjoy it. I love the feeling of calm I get from it. "

Each country in the world has its own traditional clothes, which show us the country's traditional aesthetics(美学), philosophy(哲学), and social values in special ways. Here are the four most well—known types of traditional Chinese clothing.

Hanfu

Hanfu is the oldest of China's traditional clothes. Legend traces it back(追溯) to over 4,000 years ago when Huangdi's wife, Leizu, made cloth with silk. It was kept improving till the Han Dynasty, when Hanfu was made and strongly promoted(推销) by the rulers. It also had a far—reaching influence on neighboring Asian countries, such as Korea, Japan, and Vietnam.

The Zhongshan suit

The Zhongshan suit, also known as the Mao suit in the world, is a type of male clothes. Women seldom wore it. It was first advocated(提倡) by Sun Zhongshan in 1912, so it was called the Zhongshan suit. Later on, after Chairman Mao had been seen wearing it in public many times, this type of clothes got another name———the Mao suit.

The Tang suit

The Tang suit often refers to a type of Chinese jacket rather than the clothing of the Tang Dynasty. This name came from the overseas Chinese. As the Tang Dynasty was famous for being rich and powerful in the world, foreigners called the overseas Chinese people “the Tang people” and the clothes they wore were called “the Tang suit”, also known as Tangzhuang.

The Cheongsam

The Cheongsam developed from the Manchu women's Changpao of the Qing Dynasty. The Manchu people were also called the Qi people by the Han people; so their Changpao was named qipao.

Generally, the top—bottom clothes, made up of—an yi(the upper clothes) and a chang(the lower clothes), were the earliest form of clothing recorded in Chinese documents. The one—piece clothing was called shenyi. The upper and the lower clothes were made as one piece although they were cut separately.

There are some differences between Chinese and American cultures(文化). In the USA, people can go into a house with their shoes on. In China, you should take off your shoes at the door. In the USA, people often like to have a quick talk. When talking to Americans, you had better make your point(要点)quickly. Or you might find yourself alone(独自)on the street talking to the air. When a Chinese person asks for help, he usually takes a long time to the point. He may spend a few minutes talking about other things like the weather or something else.

Confidence (自信心) is very important in our daily life. It can help you to develop a healthy life style. A study shows that the people who are more confident are much happier. They can have more chances to make themselves successful.

Speak loud. When you are not confident ₉ you can't do well what you want to do. You speak in a voice so low that other people can hardly hear you. The high voice can help you become more confident. 

Play sports. A strong body helps you be full of confidence. 

Encourage yourself. To see how many good things you have done, you can write down a list of good things you did during the day. Did you help others? Did you tell a joke that made everybody laugh?Get rid of(消除)fear. Fear comes along with failure(失败). But it's easy to overcome if you know that failure is part of your life. Try to start again and believe you can do better.

    China has its own holidays, such as the Spring Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival, so we don't have to celebrate holidays from other countries. Some people spend a lot of money celebrating Christmas Day. People buy lots of gifts for their friends and families, but this is not the best way to show their love.

Chongyang Festival is also the Double Ninth Festival. It is (庆祝) on the 9th day of the 9th lunar month. Let me tell you some (传统) about it.

During the festival, Chongyang cake and chrysanthemum (菊花) wine are the traditional food. Chongyang cake is a (种类) of steamed  (蒸的) cake. Since cake in Chinese is (发音) "gao", people consider climbing a high mountain to be the same as eating cake. They also hope that they can make (进步) in the following days. Because "high" means that one improves to a higher (水平). Drinking the wine is a necessary part of the festival. Chrysanthemums can drive the evil  (邪恶) away. It is (可相信的) that drinking the wine can treat and prevent diseases. Climbing mountains and enjoying beautiful chrysanthemums are interesting events.

Many well-known (诗歌) were created to describe the scene and feeling of mountain climbing. Now, family (成员) or good friends get together to climb mountains to enjoy the beautiful scenery and share (幸福) of the holiday with each other.

Do you blieve that you know what people are thinking from what they say?People can say one thing but mean something else. That's because what people do can give them away. You can learn a lot about people just by how they stand, or what they do with their hands or their hair. An expression on their face can give them away too. Remember that this is how people will learn about you to. People will judge (判断) you mostly by what you do with your body Then they will judge you by how you say ting.

So pay attention to your own actions and words and to those of others. You shouldn't make a judgment from just one action. Crossing the arms, for example, is supposed to show that someone does not agree with you. I could just mean, though, that somebody is cold.

 Is it open or closed? A closed body is someone making themselves small, with their head down and arm lose to her body. This probably means they are shy or lacking confidence. Someone who stands or sits with their head up and arms wide is showing that they are confident.

. It is true that your eyes can carry a lot of meanings. When someone smiles at you, check whether they ore genuine (真诚的)Are they smiling with heir eyes as well as their mouth? If no, they may not really be pleased.
 

I like the Spring Festival very much. It's the  important festival in China. People live far from their homes will travel  car, train or plane to be with their families when the Spring Festival is coming. It's on the day of Chinese lunar calendar(农历). It  about 15 days.

 the Spring Festival, people often clean their houses and wash their bodies to keep  from bad luck. They also  plenty of food and gifts to welcome a new year. During the Spring Festival, people visit their  and friends.

I always looked forward to  this festival when I was a child, because I could stay with my parents and get some red pockets. What's more, the house was  of delicious food!
