Every boy wants to find treasure. And Tom was no different. One summer day Tom told Huck about his idea.
"Where can we look for treasure?" asked Huck.
"It's hidden on islands, under dead trees, but mostly under the floors in haunted (闹鬼的) houses."
So, one Saturday afternoon Tom and his friend went to look for treasure at the haunted house on Cardiff Hill. It was a quiet and lonely place, which made the boys feel very frightened. They entered quietly, and explored downstairs. There were cobwebs everywhere and everything was old and broken. Then they threw their tools in a corner and walked upstairs, but there was nothing there. They were just about to go downstairs and start digging when Tom stopped.
"What is it?" whispered Huck, going white with fright.
"Keep quiet! There's someone downstairs."
The boys lay down, looking through the holes in the wooden floor. There were two men downstairs. One was an old Spaniard (西班牙人) in a wide sombrero hat (墨西哥阔边帽) and the other was dirty and unpleasant-looking.
Tom and Huck shook with fear when they heard the Spaniard speak because they found it was Indian Joe. He said:
"It's time for us to move, partner. What will we do with the $650 from the robbery (抢劫)?"
"Let's keep $30 each and leave the bag here."
The dirty man went to the fireplace and moved a stone. Then he lifted out a bag full of money and took out some coins. The two boys forgot all their fears when they saw there was real treasure downstairs.
Then Indian Joe started digging a hole with his knife and the knife hit something.
"What is it?" asked the other man.
"It's a box," said Indian Joe. And he put in his hand and pulled out a handful of gold coins. The other man found the boys' tools, and they soon pulled out the box.
"There's thousands of dollars," said Indian Joe.
"The Murrell Gang used this area one summer," said his partner.
"They must have hidden their money here."
"What will we do with this, Joe? Will we bury (埋) it again?"
"No, someone might find it," said Indian Joe. "Let's bury it in the number two den (穴)."
Tom and Huck got up as soon as the two men left. They decided to watch out for the "man in the sombrero" when he came to town and find out where the number two den was.

When I was young, people in our village lived by planting fruit trees. My grandmother always took me to the orchard(果园)on the hill. At that time, it's not for us to water the orchard. We had to carry water from the river at the foot of the hill by . Even though we work hard, the production was still low it was short of water. One day, two young men led some workers to our village. They learned about the difficulties we faced. Later, canals(渠) and other began to be built in my village. "Who are they?" l asked. "They are good men from our government, "my grandma replied.
Shortly afterwards, I had toto another city for my junior high school. Iwent back to my hometown because of the busy study.
One day, my family made time to . We were surprised because everything had changed. The canal ran past every orchard so villagers didn't have to do up and down the hill anymore. The river was now muchthan before. When we arrived home, my grandma took out some fresh apples. She told us that the government's help, the first production increased rapidly.
Thank those good men who haveto improve the condition(条件)of our countryside. Nowadays, people work hard to live in a big city. However, we shouldn't forget our hometown where we are from.
When I was 13, my only purpose was to become the star on our football team. That meant beating out Miller King, who was the best1at our school.
The football season started in September and all summer long I2out. I carried my football everywhere for practice.
Just before September, Miller was hit by a car and lost his right arm. I went to see him after he came back from hospital. He looked very3, but he didn't cry.
That season, I4all of Miller's records while he watched the home games from the bench. We went 10 — 1 and I was named the most valuable player, but I often had crazy dreams in which I was to blame for (为...负责) Miller's5
One afternoon, I was crossing the field and saw Miller stuck (卡住) going over a fence which wasn't hard to climb with both arms. I'm sure I was the last person in the world he wanted to accept help from. But even that6he accepted. I helped him move slowly over the fence. When we were finally safe on the other side, he said to me,“You know, I didn't tell you this during the season, but you did7Thank you for filling in for me.
His words freed me from my bad dreams. I thought to myself, how even without an arm he was more of a leader. Harmed but not8, he was still ahead of me. I was right to have admired him. From that day on, I grew bigger and a little more real.
Have you ever seen a solar panel(太阳能电池板) in your neighborhood? Solar panels take energy from the sun and turn it into electricity. Over the past ten years, the price of solar panels has gone down greatly. In many parts of the world, solar energy is now the cheapest form of electricity, More and more people have started using solar energy to power their homes.
However, solar panels also have their problems. They stop working at night and on rainy days. Is it possible to make them produce electricity all of the time?
Scientists at Suzhou University, China, have invented a new solar panel now. It can produce electricity not only from solar energy but also from falling rain. When a raindrop falls on the solar panel and then rolls(滚动)down, it creates friction(摩擦力) on the surface of the panel, which can then be turned into electricity.
Sun Baoquan is one of the inventors. "Our new invention can produce electricity in any
lean is still working hard provide electricity at night if there is i so Sun weather during the day, " he says. "It can even provide electricity at night if there is rain."
The solar panel, however, does not make much electricity from falling rain. So Sun Baoquan is still working hard to improve it. The scientist also wants to make solar panels more flexible, which are as soft as clothing.
The field of solar energy is developing fast. Scientists around the world have been improving solar panels. Some have been working on ways to join solar panels and wind power together. Some have been trying to use sunlight to produce liquid and gas fuels(液体和气体燃料).

Growing up is not always easy. When you face difficulties, what should you do? Just sit there and wait for help? Or believe yourself? To have a spirit of doing by yourself is more useful than crying for help.
Stress is your body's enemy. Life isn't just study, study, study. Though schoolwork is important, it's equally important to enjoy yourself, such as listening to music, doing sports, having a meal or going out for a travel.
Whether it is to get to the store or get home, or if it is climbing the stairs instead of taking the lift, remembering a "Because I can" idea is an easy way to add more activities to your life. Break the "I'm tired." or " It is too hard." or "It is too far." rule. Increasing your activity level will give you useful things.
You'll never create any luck if you sit there to wait for it to fall into your lap. Take steps towards your goals and dreams and greet every challenge. You will find you create more luck in everyday life.
Some people are already lucky, and they just don't know it. Instead of giving all your attention to what you are short of, look at how lucky you already are. You no doubt have some wonderful friends, family, and a roof over your head.

Do you have any online classes? It is possible to take classes at home. All you need is a computer and a headset (耳机).
However, most students don't seem to like online classes. According to a recent survey, only 33 percent of students would take such classes. Over 1,500 students from 10 cities took the survey.
Many students said it is hard to focus on studying while taking online classes. This was true for Lian Ruohan, 15, at the Affiliated (附属的) High School of Peking University." There are no classmates, no real teachers watching me. I can surf the internet or do other things if I want to. It's harder to always stay focused," she said.
Lian prepares a lot before taking her classes to make sure she will pay attention. She also pushes herself to communicate with teachers. Students can come up with or answer questions while taking online classes.
But Wen Jiayi, 14, at the Yucai Middle School Attached to Chengdu No7 High School, thinks online interaction (互动) isn't enough. "The online teachers don't really get to know me. When I don't hand in homework, all I get is a short message instead of real concern (关心), "she said.
However, online classes still have other advantages. "It saves time and money compared to taking offline classes. Also, if I don't understand some parts of a lesson, I can watch it over again," Lian said.
