Many cities around the world today are heavily polluted. Products are not produced in a "green" way. It leads to the new pollution problem. One result is that millions of tons of wastes like glass, paper and plastics are produced. The waste problem is difficult to deal with.
However, today, people have realized the importance of buying and using environmentally- friendly products. More and more people are choosing "green" and expecting that the products they buy should be safe for the environment. Before they buy a product, they ask questions like these, "Will this soap be bad for the environment?" "Can this metal container be reused or can it only be used once?
Over 20,000 people took part in a web survey on buying environmentally-friendly products. Among them, 8,129 people say that they now consider the environmental safety of a product before they buy it. That is to say, companies must change the way they make and sell their products to make sure that they are "green".
A few years ago, it was impossible to find green products in supermarkets, but now there are hundreds of them. Some supermarket products carry labels to show that they are green. Some companies have made the clean and safe products. The growing need for a safer and cleaner environment is making companies rethink how they do business of them. The public will no longer accept the old idea of "buy it, use it, throw it away, and forget it." As a result, the companies have to take action.
"Who needs a (超市) if you have Taobao?" says Li Min, a writer in Shanghai.
Taobao, China's largest (在线的) shopping site, has become an important part of Li Min's life. She buys everything on Taobao.
A growing number of Chinese Internet users like Li have found the joy of online shopping. More women shop online than men. Clothing and household products are the most (流行的) goods online. (购物) online has lots of (优势). You can buy (任何东西) at home, and you can also (比较) the prices of the same (产品).
You may question the security (安全) of online shopping. Don't worry. Unless you (收到) the products from the sellers and are satisfied with them, the shop owners will not get the money. You can also get your money back if you want to (返回) the products.

One day Robert was so curious(好奇的) that he asked Amanda what they talked about, but she , "We're best friends. We talk about almost everything— film stars, pop songs, recipes, everything!"

It was a cool summer morning in the backstreets of Brooklyn, New York. Tony was walking to a barbershop (理发店) with a bag of biscuits (饼干) . His mom asked him to give them to Uncle Benny. Along the way, he stopped to talk with Vinnie outside a supermarket and gave him a few biscuits. Then they said goodbye to each other and Tony went on walking to the barbershop.
A few minutes later, Tony ran into Jen outside a bookshop. They spoke for a few minutes and Tony gave him a handful of biscuits. Just about 100 meters from the barbershop. Tony saw Mr. Jackson walking his dog. Tony ran to him to say hello, and then gave him some biscuits. Tony kept walking, and arrived at the barbershop soon.
"Uncle Benny! Here are the delicious biscuits my mom made for you, "Tony said. "She knows you love them. " He handed over the bag to Uncle Benny and left the shop to go back home. Uncle Benny stopped working and looked into the bag but found nothing inside.
"Crazy boy, there are no biscuits here, " he said to himself. "He must have eaten them all on his way here. Well, I can't really blame (责备) him. They must be too delicious. "

When we asked about brothers and sisters, more than 2,000 children wrote to tell us about their brothers or sisters. Many children told us that fights often happened. More than half of the children fought with their brothers or sisters at least once a day. Most children said they shouted at their sisters or brothers when they fought. Almost half said they hit each other. But some of the children, about 20%, said they asked their mom or dad to help them solve the problem. And even more children said that after a fight, they said sorry to their brothers or sisters.
For now, you are still a child. You may be unhappy sometimes because of the fights with your brothers or sisters, but you will think they are funny experiences when you grow up. You will be the parent and you will have to stop the fights! So stop shouting when you get angry with your brothers or sisters. It is not always easy, but maybe you can start with just making one day "No Fight Day". Then your mom and dad will be very happy. Remember that it is never OK to shout at your brothers or sisters and hurt them.
No one likes crowded places. Plants feel the . But when we feel crowded, we can say something about it to others. What about plants? (surprise), plants can "talk" with their roots (根), scientists say.
How do they do that? Here is a little story. It may help you find out.
Jack and Mike are two plants. They are neighbors. One day, Jack's (leaf) touch Mike. Mike is (worry).
"Jack is so close to me," Mike thinks. "I might be under his shadow. I can't get enough sunshine (grow) well."
Mike decides to do (anything). He (produce) chemicals (化学物质). The chemicals go into the soil. Then, they go to Jack. Jack gets it. He finds that Mike is upset. He is sorry about that. "Oh, I have to grow to direction," Jack thinks.
Do you see? This is plants talk. So don't touch plants fun. It may blame its neighbor.
Like many lovers of books, Mary and her husband, Richard Goldman, seldom walked past a bookstore without stopping to look inside. They often talked of opening their own bookstore one day.
When Mary was hospitalized with heart trouble in 1989, they decided it was time to get serious. Richard, who worked for a business company, hoped to work for himself, and Mary needed to slow down from her demanding(很费力的)job.
They started by talking to bookstore owners and researching the industry. "We knew it had to be a specialty store because we couldn't compete with the big chains," says Mary. One figure caught her attention: She'd read nearly two hundred mysteries(推理小说), and many buyers spent more than $300 a year on books. She and Richard were themselves mystery readers.
On Halloween 1992, they opened the Mystery Lovers Bookshop near their home. With three children in college, the couple could not spend all the family's money to start a shop. To cover the $100,000 cost, they drew some of their savings and borrowed some money from relatives and from a bank.
The store merely broke even in its first year, with only $ 120,000 in sales. But Mary was always coming up with new ways to attract customers. The shop had a coffee bar and it offered gifts to mystery lovers and served dinners for book clubs that met in the store. ▲
Now they makes sales of about $ 420,000 a year. After paying taxes and other costs, they earned about $ 340.000.
"The job you love may not go hand in hand with a million-dollar income," says Richard. "This has always been about an enjoyable life for ourselves, not about making a lot of money."
Although the world is hungry, it is even thirstier. While nearly 3/4 of the earth is covered with water, we are short of drinking water.
How can we avoid (避免) a serious water shortage? Then, we should protect our water. resources and not pollute them. Lastly, we should discover ways to reuse water. But people's need for water is increasing day by day. We still don't have enough water. What else can we do?
There is plenty of water in the sea. But we need to take the salt away from the sea water. If scientists can find cheaper ways to do it, we can solve the problem of the shortage of water.
A. Firstly, we should save water and not waste it.
B. This is very expensive.
C. Scientists have got some achievements in this field.
D. The sea seems to have the best answer.
E. This is because about 97% of the water on the earth is sea water.

There is a song we all can sing—March of the Volunteers(《义勇军进行曲》). It was composed in 1935 by Tian Han and Nie Er as the theme song of the movie Children of Trouble Time(风云儿女). It was taken as the national anthem(国歌) in 1949.
We learn it at the beginning of primary school and sing it at every flag-raising ceremony(仪式). Now, there is a law to protect the song.
On Sept 1, 2017, the government passed the National Anthem Law and it took effect from Oct 1 in the same year. It stated how we should sing or play the song, requiring all Chinese to respect it.
According to the law, the song will only be allowed to play at nine situations, such as major sporting events, award ceremonies and flag-raising: ceremonies. It shouldn't be used at personal funerals(葬礼) or as background music in public places.
Moreover, the law requires Chinese to be serious when singing the song. We can neither joke about the song nor change the song's words or music. If someone breaks the law, he or she can be detained(拘留) for up to 15 days or held criminally liable(负刑事责任)
Many foreign countries also have laws for their national anthems. For example, US people should put the right hand over their hearts while singing the song. In Russia, the national anthem must be played on television and radio before the start and the end of broadcasting(节目播出).
Want to save the environment? You probably can't fix everything on your own, but by taking small steps and keeping the environment in mind every day, you can make a difference.
Think Green. Challenge yourself to think about the environment as you live your life. If you shut off lights when you leave the room and turn off your TV when you're not watching it, you'll save energy. If you take shorter showers, you'll save water.
Shop Green. Shopping is fun, but buying things you don't need is wasteful and bad for the earth. Before you buy something, ask yourself how much you'll really use it. Keep yourself away from buying products with unnecessary packaging, and whenever possible, buy things that were locally made instead of those shipped from far away.
Dress Green. Wear green trousers and T-shirts if you want. But what really matters isn't the color; it's how the clothes were made. If you want to help the environment, the best place to find clothes is at a vintage store, but you might not want to buy everything used. No matter where you shop, keep an eye out for products made from environmentally friendly materials like organic cotton, which is grown without the use of pesticides(杀虫剂).
Study Green. What's better than learning about the environment? Save it while you learn. It can be as simple as using both sides of a piece of paper before you recycle it, or reusing an old text book instead of buying a new one. If you want to do more, join an environmental group at your school, and encourage your friends to join, too.
The story was a true one and still moved me deeply. Thirty years ago, I got to know a poor lady named Rose. She had no kids and lived alone.
When I went to visit her, I always took Rose some coffee and food. One day she said she was inviting me to have lunch.
We walked from my workplace to a little restaurant on David Street.
On the way, I began to worry: I knew she had no money, but if I offered(主动提出)to pay for the lunch, I was afraid I would hurt her.
There were many people in the restaurant and all of them were happy.
Rose told me to sit and drink coffee by the window. Then she went to work in the kitchen.
After about 20 minutes, she came out and sat with me. She just paid for one meal and we started to enjoy the delicious food together.
She told me that the restaurant let people work for a meal if they had no money, or would give them a free meal if they were not able to work.
She also explained that the workers who were working there were all volunteers.
I still remember the beautiful afternoon I shared with Rose. Though we had a meal together only once, it was paid by Rose's work.
The weather was warm and bright, and everyone's smile was warm and bright as well.
I'm still thinking that life cannot be easy to us, but we can still do something for our friends and neighbors.
The world will be nicer if everybody would like to share happiness with others.
It will never be dark if there is a light in everyone's heart.
a. She was very poor.
b. She had no kids and lived alone.
c. She worked in the restaurant.
d. She was a volunteer in the restaurant.
e. She often had lunch at the restaurant with the writer.
f. She knew the restaurant quite well.
How time (fly)! The senior high school life is coming. I still remember the (one) day like it was yesterday. Everything in our school is (mean) to me. I used to (be) shy, but my teachers always encouraged me to be active and confident. I (make) great progress in the last few years. My teachers and parents are (pride) of me.
The end of junior high school is the (begin) of a new life. I know learning is a lifelong journey. I will learn from my (mistake) and never give up. I've also got much. (happy) is always around me. I think the harder I work, the (good) I will be.
My friend's eight-year-old daughter, Mary, used to stay with her grandparents in the countryside. Recently her parents brought her to town to live with them. Wild and uneducated, Mary would use rude or dirty words when she was angry. Sometimes she rolled (打滚)on the ground, which shocked all people around. Mary's parents tried to tame (驯服) her by beating and kicking, but it didn't work. Finally they became completely disappointed with her.
One day their next-door neighbor, a woman teacher, gave Mary a beautiful snow-white dress. It caught Mary's eyes right away and made them shine brightly.
Mary put on the dress and became quite another person. She no longer abused (骂人) or hit others. She didn't roll on the floor, either. She knew that running wildly was not suitable for a girl in such a beautiful dress.
Since then, Mary has changed a lot. And now she is gentle, tidy and lovely. Her parents are quite satisfied with her.
Perhaps everyone has a beautiful dress hidden somewhere in his or her heart. However, he or she may not realize it, forget it or give it up.
As we all know, the Internet has become part of teenagers' life. A new report on 3,375 students aged 110 to 18 in seven Chinese cities 2 that 38 percent of them used the Internet very often.
