阅读理解Are you looking forward to watching some great films this summer? Here are four films you won't miss. Wonder Woman Wonder Woman is this summer's most exciting film. Though being a superhero film, it is the most unique: you will see the first female superhero starred by Gal Gadot. On general release from 1 June. The Mummy Tom Cruise awakens an ancient princess who has now become a mummy. Cruise jumps from the sky, runs around a lot and wakes up naked in a sleeping bag — but it's Sofia Boutella as the Mummy who draws the most attention. Director Alex Kurtzman speaks highly of Sofia Boutella as the Mummy: "If you look at her eyes, there's a whole performance going on here. Even not saying anything, she can convey something very emotional to you." On general release from 8 June. Baby Driver Ansel Elgort is a getaway driver, who is forced to work for a crime boss. This is an actionromanticcomedy from British writerdirector Edgar Wright. The sound in the film is as great as the visuals, which makes it much like a musical, but it is quite different from La La Land. Baby Driver isn't just a series of song pieces. Instead, it finds its form in the elegant, rapidfire combination of movement and sound. Released on 28 June in Canada and the US. A Man Called Ove This film has become one of Sweden's most popular comedies. In the film a lonely retiree who has given up on life, was trying to kill himself, but all his attempts failed. Meanwhile, he developed an unlikely friendship with his neighbors. It is really a tearjerker, which is funny, tragic, and heartwarming as well. Released on 25 May in Hong Kong, 30 June in the UK.

阅读理解Reese Witherspoon was born on March 22, 1976 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She is the second child of the family. Reese spent the first four years of her life in Wiesbaden, Germany, where her father John served in the US Army Reserves. Shortly after, John moved the family back to the United States, settling in Nashville, Tennessee. Reese was introduced to the entertainment industry at a very early age. At age 7, she began modeling. This led to appearances on several local television commercials. At age 11,she was placed first in a Ten-State Talent Fair. In 1990, she landed her first major acting role in TheMan in the Moon(1991). Her role as a 14-year-old tomboy earned her good reviews. Roles in bigger films such asJack the Bear(1993) andA Far Off Place(1993) followed shortly after. Following high school graduation in 1994, Reese decided to have a pause in her acting career and attend Stanford University where she would major in English literature. However, her plans were shortly stopped when she accepted roles to star in two major movies. Although neither film was a huge box-office success, they did help to make Reese a rising star in Hollywood and open the door for bigger and better film roles. Her breakthrough role came as Elle Woods in the 2001 comedyLegally Blonde. In box office terms, the movie was a great success and made Reese one of the top female stars in Hollywood. In the year 2014, she produced bothGone GirlandWild, for which she got nominated(提名) for a best actress Oscar again for her role. Reese is actively involved in children's and women's advocacy organization. She is a longtime supporter of Save the Children, an organization that helps provide children around the world with education, health care and emergency aid.

阅读理解The idea that you can use humor, laughter, and play to make you healthier probably seems too simple to be true. However, it is really true and simple. The sense of humor, laughter and play plays an important role in keeping you healthy. Treat the blues with a sense of humor, which is closely tied to laughter. Laughter is infectious. Have you ever heard a big laugh of a young child and been able to keep yourself from smiling? When laughter is shared between people, it makes them closer to each other and increases their happiness. Smiling is the beginning of laughter and a smile is also just as infectious as laughter is. You can experience something by smiling at everyone around you, and you will feel happier just by sharing a smile, even with a stranger. Play is an important part of making sure that we stay healthy. We are often encouraged to make sure our children play, and are told of the benefits of being out playing. However, what we often forget is that it is just as important for old people to make play be part of their life as it's for children. Physical play is important for the old and it certainly helps prevent illness. While the studies are still in the early stages, the studies that have been done have shown that physical play certainly plays a part in preventing cognitive (认知的) falling. Anyway, adding humor, laughter, and play to our life will influence us mentally, physically and socially and bring us many advantages. So we should make full use of humor, laughter and play to make our life more active, more interesting and happier.

阅读理解If you wear glasses, chances are you are smarter. Research published in the famous British journal Nature Communications has found that people who displayed higher levels of intelligence were almost 30 percent more likely to wear glasses. The scientists studied the genes of thousands of people between the ages of 16 and 102.The study showed intelligence can be connected to physical characteristics. One characteristic was eyesight. In out of 10 people who were more intelligent, there was a higher chance they needed glasses. Scientists also said being smarter has other benefits. It is connected to better health. It is important to remember these are connections which are not proven causes. Scientists call this correlation. Just because something is connected to something else does not mean one of those things caused the other. And it's worth noting that what constitutes intelligence is subjective and can be difficult, if not impossible, to measure. Forget genes though. Plenty of proof shows wearing glasses makes people think you are more intelligent, even if you do not need glasses. A number of studies have found people who wear glasses are seen as smarter, hard-working and honest. Many lawyers use this idea to help win their cases. Lawyer Harvey Solves explained this. Glasses soften their appearance. He said Sometimes there has been a huge amount of proof showing that people he was defending broke the law. He had them wear glasses and they weren't found guilty. Glasses are also used to show someone is intelligent in movies and on TV. Ideas about people who wear glasses have begun to shift. People who do not need glasses sometimes wear them for fashion only. They want to look worldly or cool. But not everyone is impressed by this idea, though. GQ magazine said people who wear glasses for fashion are trying too hard to look smart and hip (时髦的). However, that hasn't stopped many celebrities from happily wearing glasses even if they do not need them. Justin Bieber is just one high-profile fan of fashion glasses.

七选五There's a lot of pressure put on the first day at a new school, but there's no need to feel stressed. Instead of worrying about what others think, just try to have fun and relax. Display confident, open body language. If your arms are crossed, you might seem unfriendly. If you toy with your hair, you may look anxious or nervous. To make a great impression, keep your arms uncrossed and make eye contact with people. Stand tall with your shoulders back so you appear confident. The best impression you can make is an authentic one. You shouldn't have to hide your personality or completely change who you are to make friends. People can usually tell if you're being sincere and you'll make better friendships if you act like yourself! Set out your outfit and pack your bag before you go to bed. First, lay out your clothes. Then, pack any notebooks, folders, and writing supplies that you might need in your backpack. Get to school a little early. You'll probably need to find your classroom. If you're running behind, you might feel stressed out. Try to get to school at least 10 minutes early so you can hang out a little before class starts. Be ready to introduce yourself. Most teachers do an icebreaker exercise so everyone learns names. You'll probably have to share something interesting so think about what you'd like to share about yourself.
B. Ask questions and take time to listen. C. Your body language tells a lot about your feelings. D. This is a great chance to say hi to classmates or ask for directions. E. It's really not hard to make a good first impression on your teacher. F. You might talk about your hobbies, what sports you play, or where you've traveled. G. By doing so, you won't be rushing around in the morning which can stress you out. |
