Music and art festivals are fun and exciting events. If you're planning to go to a festival, it's important to plan your trip carefully to ensure that you're safe and have a good time.

■Bring clothes to keep warm or cool

In addition to your fun festival clothing, pack a raincoat, some light tank tops, and a sweater or sweatshirt. Don't forget longer pants for cool evenings or bad weather. In general, it's best to leave your umbrella at home because it can be dangerous in large crowds.

■Get a cheap tent and sleeping bag for multi-day festivals

A majority of people end up throwing their tents away after long festivals, since they normally break from the use. Pick up a less expensive tent with enough room for you and your friends and pack a comfortable sleeping bag for yourself. If you don't want to camp at the festival, remember to book an Airbnb or a hotel room nearby!

■Place a first aid kit in a proper place

Before the festival, buy a small first aid kit with the Band-Aid, and any medication that you need to take, in case you get minor injuries or a headache. Keep it in a proper place that's easily accessible, like your tent or car.

  1. (1) Why should umbrellas be left at home?
A . They take up too much space. B . The weather will be terrible. C . They might hurt someone. D . Travelers prefer raincoats.
  2. (2) What do most people do with tents after festivals?
    A . Sell them. B . Return them. C . Pack them up. D . Throw them away.
  3. (3) What is suggested about the first aid kit?
A . It should be put at hand. B . It ought to be big enough. C . It must contain all medicines. D . It has to be placed in the car.

How does your family celebrate Mother's Day? Do you give her flowers or make her a card? The original mother's days were observed rather differently.

Julia Ward Howe was the first person to propose that the United States observe a national mother's day. She joined the U. S. Sanitary Commission during the American Civil War. Following the war, Howe became a supporter of peace. In 1872, Howe organized Mother's Peace Day to improve working conditions in mines and provide better education for poor children.

But Mother's Peace Day never became a national holiday. Mother's Day owes its origin to the efforts of Anna Jarvis, a daughter who wanted to honor her mother, Ann.

In 1858, Ann began a tradition of Mother's Work Days in Taylor County, the rural community where infection and disease were common. Ann begged doctors to teach her and her neighbors how to improve the family health. On Mother's Work Days, they helped and taught other mothers.

Ann once concluded:"I hope that someone, sometime, will found a memorial mother's day. "When Ann died on May 9, 1905, Anna determined to fulfill her mother's wish.

Anna wrote hundreds of letters to politicians and spoke often to promote the establishment of Mother's Day. On May 10, 1908, Anna addressed a large Mother's Day celebration. She urged children to show love and thanks to their mothers"by words, gifts, acts of affection. . . "

The idea of a day honoring mothers spread quickly throughout the country and became official in 1914, when President Woodrow Wilson signed a resolution establishing the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day.

While few today think of Mother's Day as a day to do charity work in the community, you can still follow Anna to celebrate it.

  1. (1) Why were the original mother's days observed?
A . To satisfy mothers' wishes. B . To assist the people in need. C . To urge children to love their mothers. D . To save the wounded soldiers in the war.
  2. (2) What can we know about the first official Mother's Day?
A . It was founded by Julia Ward Howe. B . It was celebrated in memory of Anna's mother. C . Anna's speech contributed to its establishment. D . Anna's efforts received no response from the public.
  3. (3) In which way does the author advise us to celebrate Mother's Day?
A . By giving celebration speeches. B . By reflecting on its original intention. C . By doing good deeds in the community. D . By showing love and gratitude to mothers.
  4. (4) Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
    A . The Mothers of Mother's Day B . The Best Gift for Mother's Day C . The Traditions of Mother's Day D . The Celebration of Mother's Day

I'm often asked how to study English effectively. I think this means getting the most out of your study time, and that means variety.

Study Every Day

It's important to study English every day. However, don't exaggerate(夸张)!This habit of studying English every day will help keep English in your brain fresh.

A Little Grammar, a Little Listening, a Little Reading, and a Little Writing

Study a little grammar, then do a short listening exercise, and then read an article on the same topic. Don't do too much; twenty minutes on three different types of exercises is plenty!

Give yourself one grammar goal when reading a new article or watching a new video. For example, try to write down each example of a form you are studying such as the present perfect. Use colored pens to highlight forms that you are studying.

Use Different Learning Methods

Don't just use one way to study English. Use many kinds of methods that will make all the parts of your brain help you. All of these methods together help with your learning.

Find Some Friends

You can practice the exercises together, have conversations together (in English), and, as you study English together, help each other with exercises you may not understand.

A. Forget Grammar

B. Review Grammar as You Watch or Read.

C. Here are some simple exercises to help you warm up.

D. Here are some basic ideas to help you as you study English.

E. Study for thirty minutes every day instead of two hours once a week.

F. Make sure that you study a number of areas rather than focusing on just one.

G. For example, if you are learning new vocabulary, create a word map, describe a picture, make a list.

Through various activities, I was able to develop many friendships with Chinese students. It was through these friendships I had the opportunity to better understand what the university life of  average Chinese student was like. Because many Chinese friends  (come) from different areas around the country, I was able to gain a (good) understanding of China than before.

Besides the activities , my absolute      (favorite) were the times when my close friends from school would gather in my dorm to cook and eat. It may sound like nothing special ,  these were some of my cherished(珍爱的)memories at BLCU.

I sincerely hope that more foreigners in China can take advantage of  (they) time to experience the food, the culture, and especially the people.
