You've made friends since childhood, but you still don't know who your true friends are. Here are some signs to tell you if your friend is a true friend. Always honest Honesty is important to keep a relationship alive. A true friend always tells you the truth. It may be hard sometimes but lying can destroy a friendship. It is important that your friend speaks honestly and never makes up stories. _________ There are always periods in your life when you have problems or difficulties. A true friend will always have time to listen to your problems and give advice. He/She may not be able to offer a solution to your problems but the fact that your friend made time to listen is a sign he/she cares for you. Your friend is not a true friend if he/she can never make time for you when you are in trouble. You also need to be reasonable and accept that your friend also has other things to do, so he/ she can't always listen immediately to your problems. Always respectful (尊敬的) A true friend will always respect your opinion no matter whether he/she agrees or not. Your true friend may disagree but never insists that he/she is correct. Always understanding It is possible that some problems will arise between you and your friend. A true friend will always be forgiving(体谅的) and understanding even if it isn't his/her fault. We are all different people and we all make mistakes. A true friend is always forgiving and understanding because he/she doesn't want to take the risk of losing his/her best friend.

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A,B,C,D四个选项中选出最佳选项。Dear Daughter, As we drove off from Columbia University, I wanted to write a letter to you to tell you all that is on my mind. College will be the most important years in your life. It is in college that you will truly discover what learning is about. I encourage you to be inquisitive, but I also want to tell you: "Education is what you have left after all that is taught is forgotten." What I mean by that is the materials taught aren't as important as your gaining the ability to learn a new subject, and the ability to analyse a new problem. That is really what learning in college is about—this will be the period where you go from teacher-taught to master-inspired, after which you must become a self-learner. So do take each subject seriously, and even if what you learn isn't critical for your life, the skills of learning will be something you cherish forever, so do your best in classes and learn. Take care of yourself and follow your passion in college. Take courses you think you will enjoy. Don't be trapped in what others think or say. Most importantly, make friends and be happy. College friends are often the best in life. Pick a few friends and become really close to them—pick the ones who are genuine and sincere to you. People are not perfect, so as long as they are genuine and sincere, trust them and be good to them. They will give back. This is my secret of success—I am genuine with people and trust them (unless they do something to lose my trust). Please treasure your college years—make the best of your free time, become an independent thinker in control of your destiny, be bold to experiment, learn and grow through your successes and challenges. May Columbia University become the happiest four years in your life, and may you blossom into just what you dream to be. Love, Dad

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A,B,C,D四个选项中选出最佳选项。Jeffrey Hall, a teacher of Communications from the University of Kansas(KU), has used his research to define(明确) the exact amount of time necessary to make friends with someone. He's also found how long it will take to deepen a relationship. His new study found that it takes around 50 hours of time together to go from being someone's acquaintance(泛泛之交) to casual(感情不深的) friend. It takes about 90 hours to go from being casual friends to friends, and more than 200 hours before considering someone a close friend or best friend. But it isn't spending just any kind of time together that deepens a friendship—hours spent working together, for example, don't count as much as hours spent getting to know someone by hanging out, joking around, playing video games, and doing more playful activities. The study explains that these kinds of activities help us to form a deeper connection with someone. "We have to put that time in," Hall said. "You can't make a friend without any effort." The results of the study come from analysis of 355 responses to an online survey from adults who said they had moved in the last six months and were looking for new friends in their new homes. Survey participants were asked about new relationships as well as hours spent together and activities they did. They were then asked to rate their resulting relationships according to one of four stages: acquaintance, casual friend, friend and close friend. The main conclusion that Hall came to is that making close friends takes serious effort. So if you want to have some best friends, you have to know that spending time with someone is the most important thing.

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A,B,C,D四个选项中选出最佳选项。I have recently completed my college degree. The last project was called "smile". The class was asked to go out to smile at three people and document their reactions. I am a very friendly person and always smile at everyone and say hello anyway. So, I thought this would be a piece of cake. My husband, the youngest son and I went out to McDonald's. We were standing in line when all of a sudden everyone around us began to back away. As I turned around I smelled a horrible body smell and saw two poor homeless men standing behind me. As I looked at the short blue-eyed gentleman closest to me, he was "smiling". The second man fumbled(摸索) with his hands as he stood behind his friend. The young lady at the counter asked him what they wanted. He said, "Coffee is all, Miss." That was all they could afford. Then I really felt it—I embraced(拥抱) the little man with the blue eyes. That was when I noticed all eyes in the restaurant were set on me, judging my every action. I smiled and asked two more breakfast meals on and gave them to the men. The blue-eyed gentleman looked up at me, with tears in his eyes, and said, "Thank you." I turned in my project. My teacher said, "Can I share this?" I slowly nodded as she got the attention of the class. She began to read and that was when I knew that we as human beings should share this need to heal people and to be healed. In my own way I had touched the people at McDonald's and every soul that heard the story in the classroom. What's more, I graduated with one of the biggest lessons I would ever learn.

阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。It was the middle of the day with bright sun, blue sky, green grass, and a soft breeze(微风). It was a great day to play outside and the best day of my life because I got a new ball and a new bike as my sixth birthday presents, and I was visiting my cousin, Kristy, at her house. "Here I go!" shouted David while kicking my new ball. David lived next door and was older than me. I thought he was a wild child, but he was actually very kind. The ball went flying as if it were going to space. "That is high!" Kristy said in surprise and we went after the ball. We all had a great time. Later we had supper and the food my aunt made was good. While Kristy was helping do the dishes, David and I ran outside to play. We started taking turns to ride my bike. David suggested that we ride it to the forest, and I agreed. David and I got on the bike and David started going fast. As we rode through the forest, I felt the wind brushing my face. It felt so great and free. Suddenly the bike hit a fallen branch and we went flying off the bike. Lying on the ground, I felt dizzy(眩晕的). I checked myself for injuries and saw some but they didn't bother me. "David!" I shouted out loudly and anxiously. "Hey," said a voice. I turned my head and it was David, who was standing behind me, holding my broken bike. At the sight of my damaged bike, I was so sad that I couldn't hold back my tears. It took David some time to calm me down. Paragraph 1: When we realized it was time to walk home, we found ourselves lost. Paragraph 2: It was completely dark when we saw fireworks(烟火) being set off in the distance. |
