It was a cold and snowy morning after the winter vacation. Actually, it was my first day at my new school. I was walking slowly and worrying about lots of things. It was 7:00 in the morning and there weren't many people on the road. A girl on a bike passed me quickly. She was riding on ice when suddenly she fell off her bike a few steps in front of me. She was trying hard to get up but fell once more. Without thinking, I went over and helped her stand up. She said, "Thank you," with a smile and then rode away. The words "Thank you" warmed me and this small event made me feel less nervous about my new school. Finally, I got to school. The teacher led me to the classroom and asked me to sit down beside a girl. I was so nervous. I knew some of the students were looking at me but I didn't dare to look at them. Soon the first class started. It was English. They used a different textbook from my old school and I didn't have a copy. As I was wondering what to do, a book appeared in front of me. "Let's share," the girl next to me said." And hi, I'm Carrie." I looked up. It was the girl I helped that morning. What a surprise! From then on, we became good friends. She was my first and best friend at my new school. Helping her also helped me find a friend.

Yangzhou paper cutting, with a history of 2,000 years, can be dated back to the Sui Dynasty, making Yangzhou one of the places where paper cutting first became popular. In the Sui Dynasty, the people of Yangzhou would cut colourful paper or silk and satin (缎子) to celebrate festivals. It is said that Emperor Yang came to Yangzhou three times. In winter, the flowers and trees in the garden became dry and weak. The emperor ordered the gril servants to cut fine silk and satin into flowers and leaves and use them to decorate the trees and lakes. Since then, "colorful cutting" has become a popular art in Yangzhou. In the Tang Dynasty, the paper cutting industry was highly developed and a large amount of high-quality paper was made as presents to the Court (宫廷). In the Qing Dynasty, because of the economic development, the people of Yangzhou became interested in wearing fine clothing, especially embroidered (刺绣的) clothing. The embroidered designs were based on paper-cuts, the most well-know of them was from Bao Jun, a paper cutting master. He won a high reputation (名声) as Magic Scissors for his wonderful cutting skills. After the People's Republic of China was started, the Chinese government accepted the importance of paper cutting like many other arts and skills. In 2007, China Paper-cuts Museum opened to the public in the back garden of the Wang's Residence (住所), Yangzhou, greatly helping the development of Yangzhou paper cutting.

School uniforms (校服) are traditional in Britain. Pupils at about 90 percent of British secondary schools wear uniforms. When every pupil in the school wears the uniform, nobody has to worry about fashion and they feel that they belong to a group. Some people believe that a school uniform can help students pay attention to schoolwork. But some schools in Britain and other countries are starting to drop the traditional uniforms. An Australian school has decided to drop its traditional school uniform, hoping new sportswear will encourage students to take part in more activities. School headmaster Elisabeth Lenders said the uniform change had been in the works for several years. "We decided that in 2018-2019, " she said. "The importance is clear: to make young people live happy, healthy lives." Ms Lenders said World Health Organization research reported 90 percent of young Australians and New Zealanders were not getting the minimum(最小的)daily levels of activity they needed in order to lead a healthy life. As well as the new uniform, she said the school would change timetables to make sure there would be chances for students to take part in physical activity every day. Ms Lenders said in the past, a uniform was about all looking the same but in the 21st century it was important for students to be able to choose clothes that they liked. And this Australian school had made an online survey about the uniform change and had received great support from parents and students. Tara, mother of Ava in Year 7, said it was a great move from the school. "These are the challenges of our time, and we want young people to think about them," she said. "It is bigger than just throwing out the old uniform. It's about what the role of education is about. And for me it's helping young people to live a happy, healthy and productive life. "
