Do you know Su Bingtian? He is a famous Chinese player. He was born in Zhongshan City, Guangdong1August 20th, 1989. When he was a child, he liked running. His parents encouraged（鼓励）him to practice2and they took him to a running team. It was very hard3every race, but he4gave up. He kept on exercising and tried5best. In November, 2004, he took part in the regular match（常规赛）for the6time. 7that, he got many good grades in all kinds of races. In Singapore, many middle school students spend a lot of their time on their studies. Good education（教育）is often regarded as a ticket to1in their future. So, many of these students try their best to2good marks in their examinations. They have a lot of homework every day and the exam is a3headache. Sometimes, some of them are even made to go to remedial（补习的）classes after school.

Singaporean students study hard, but they have a lot of fun after class. Do you want to know what4they like to do after class?  They can5all kinds of sports and games, music and dance, hiking and rock-climbing. They are also very active in community services（社区服务）.

In their free time, most students like to watch films. Hollywood blockbusters（大片）are very popular among them. They also like movies6in Hong Kong and Singapore, because they can understand them very well.

The first rule of speaking English is to use simple vocabulary. KISS—Keep It Short and Simple. There's a saying in English, "Have you swallowed（吞咽）a dictionary? "It is applicable（适用的）to anyone who uses a long, difficult word when a shorter word will do. And there is another saying, "Practice makes perfect." So here are some tips for speaking English.

Make friends with native（当地的）English speakers. Try to listen to what they say and try to repeat what you hear just as a child does. If you use English all the time as a child, you may learn it quickly. If you are not able to find any friendly native speakers where you live, you can find English speakers on the Internet! Try to talk with them about the movies or the books you like. If you can't find anyone who will actually help you, don't worry. You'll still be able to find out whether they can understand you.

Join an English club. Around the world there are many English-speaking clubs. Those clubs aren't just for experts（专家）, but for people who are interested in English. They can be interesting and fun. Check magazines as well as your phone book and your local newspapers. If there isn't one in your area— establish one!  Then make posters for it.

Visit a British restaurant. You can usually find one in large cities. Often, the waiters and waitresses come from English-speaking countries, and the menu is often in English, too!

Don't worry about not sounding like a native（本地人）. It's more important to speak clearly and pleasantly than to sound like the Queen of England. The most important thing to think about is whether people can understand you.

Dennis is a middle school student. Though he's in Grade 8, he's already 1. 78 meters tall. And he runs much than the others as well, so his PE teacher him to be a member of the school basketball team.

At the beginning, he couldn't play basketball as as the others, but he never gave up. He practised very hard with classmates after school every day.

Last Sunday, there was basketball game between his school and No. 2 Middle School. Dennis didn't think he could play in the game, his PE teacher asked him to prepare（准备） for it. Dennis was very when he heard the good news. That day, he waited quietly until it was his turn to play.

To our surprise, Dennis did very well in the game. He the ball to his team members correctly. Before the game was over, Dennis made a wonderful shot. His won! They cheered themselves loudly.

Dennis was more confident than before in playing basketball. He felt so happy about that.

What do you know about Kunming? Kunming is the capital of Yunnan. It's a city with long history. Kunming has a population of more than 6, 000, 000. The weather in Yunnan changes from place to place, but Kunming is famous for its beautiful weather. It's not too hot in summer or too cold in winter. That's why more and more people like to travel here and even to live here. You can see a lot of tall buildings, cinemas and hospitals. People's lives are becoming better and better

At weekends or on holidays, people like to relax themselves in different places and in different ways. In winter, people, especially old people would like to climb the Western Hills. Far away from the Western Hills, you can feel that it looks like a sleeping beauty. After supper, people take walks along the bank of Dianchi Lake. The Golden Temple and the Expo Garden are two famous places of interest in the north of the city. The Expo Garden is known to people around the world. You can spend a whole day visiting the world-famous garden.

People in Kunming are really friendly. They often invite their friends to try delicious food, for example, rice noodles. If you want to know more about Kunming and taste its food, please visit it yourself.
