At thirteen, I was diagnosed (诊断) with kind of attention disorder. It made school difficult for me. When everyone else in the class was focusing on tasks, I could not.

In my first literature class, Mrs. Smith asked us to read a story and then write on it, all within 45 minutes. I raised my hand right away and said, "Mrs. Smith, you see, the doctor said I have attention problems. I might not be able to do it."

She glanced down at me through her glasses, "You are not different from your classmates, young man." I tried, but I didn't finish the reading when the bell rang. I had to take it home.

In the quietness of my bedroom, the story suddenly all became clear to me. It was about a blind person, Louis Braile. He lived in a time when the blind couldn't get much education. But Louis didn't give up. Instead, he invented a reading system of raised dots (点), which opened up a whole new world of knowledge to the blind.

Wasn't I the "blind" in my class, being made to learn like the "sighted" students? My thoughts spilled out and my pen started to dance. I completed the task within 40 minutes. Indeed, I was not different from others; I just needed a quieter place. If Louis could find his way out of his problem, why should I ever give up?

I didn't expect anything when I handed in my paper to Mrs. Smith, so it was quite a surprise when it came back to me the next day - with an "A" on it. At the bottom of the paper were these words, "See what you can do when you keep trying?"

In recent years, China's second-hand economy has been growing steadily. One second-hand book platform by the name of Duozhuayu, meaning catching more fish, has gained a lot of followers in just a few years. Here at the book store in Beijing, bookworms are filling up the space for books still in good condition and also at reduced prices. The company operates with a model of buying, repairing, sterilizing (消毒) and selling used books.

Their service has caused more young Chinese to cast away old thinking of refusing used things and to explore the value of used things. "For second-hand items, people used to think they are of low quality. But the kind of second-hand items that truly circulates(传播) well is of high-quality. Books belong to that category. Here we believe that truly valuable items are worth buying twice," Chen Tuo, co-founder of the company said.

The company hopes for a win-win situation in the market, where buyers could deal with used books more conveniently and buyers could buy them cheaply. The sharing of books also means more choices for readers than those offered by regular bookstores. According to Chen Tuo, the bookstore also has a feature online that allows customers to put a particular book on demand, and the system will inform you if it becomes available.

The store relies heavily on data that keep records of books being accepted or refused. "From sales data in the past year, we've observed that books about psychology, finance and self management were among the most popular while books related to tourism didn't sell that well. These data really help us make better decisions," Chen said.

In a society where traditional books face competition from e-books, the bookstore hopes to popularize physical books, and to improve customer experience. Now with two offline stores in Beijing and Shanghai, the bookstore is adding more second-hand items to their lists, including kindles and clothing. The company says recycling is not just for economy, but for a lifestyle worth trying.

It is often said that you can't have too many friends. But it seems that there is a natural limit to the number of people we stay in touch with. A study found that when we make new friends, by starting a new job or going to university, we downgrade or even drop old ones. And while the friends may change, the number stays almost the same.

Oxford University researcher Felix Reed-Tsochas asked 24 students in the final months of school to list all their friends and relatives and say how close to them they were. The pupils filled in the questionnaire(问卷) twice more after starting work or going to university. They were also given free mobile phones and agreed that researchers could use their bills to work out who they called, when and for how long.

Putting the two pieces of information together showed, unsurprisingly, that most people have a small circle of close friends, who they spend most of their time talking to. This inner circle is surrounded by group after group of ever more distant friends. As the volunteers' lives changed, this overall pattern, including the number of best friends, remained almost the same, meaning that some close friends from childhood were dropped or downgraded as new friendships were built.

Dr Reed-Tsochas said: "Maybe my best friend is no longer the same person but the amount of time I allocate(分配) to my best friend is still the same." He added that this finding suggests that even with the coming of modem technology we are only capable of forming a limited number of true friendships.

Chester University researcher Dr Sam Roberts said: "Our results are likely to reflect limitations in the ability of humans to keep emotionally close relationships both because of limited time and because the emotional capital(情绪资本) that individuals can allocate between family members and friends is limited. "

 I cannot stress enough how important it is to pay attention to what your teacher is teaching you. Take part in class discussions if you have something worthwhile to add. Pay attention during class, especially during lectures.

Taking notes is important. You don't need to write down every single word your teacher says but write down what he/she writes on the board, or any special fact you think you might need for a test. This way it will help you learn more effectively by actually thinking about what you are writing.

Don't skip school. You will be missing out on stuff.  However, you will have more work and you have missed lectures and in-class movies. Also, try not to be late for class. It's most likely that your teacher won't appreciate it and you will get yourself behind.

Keep a good attitude towards things. If you have an "I don't care about school or this class" attitude, then teachers will be less willing to help you with problems or offer you extra credit. The same goes for a lazy attitude. Have a respectful attitude to teachers and other students.

Always ask questions.  If you don't understand, ask someone. Read your textbook and notes, and then if that fails, seek help. Ask a teacher, friend, classmate, parent, etc. Get a tutor if you need one.
