Typhoon is a very big wind. It usually starts in July, August and September

How does a typhoon come? In summer, when the sun heats down on the sea, the water gets hot. Then the hot water evaporates and goes up into the air. When the air gets very warm, it starts to move high up into the sky, and starts to move quickly, making wind. The wind goes in circles, and it keeps moving higher in the sky. And when the wind moves faster than one hundred and twenty kilometers an hour, a typhoon comes.

Typhoons are of great danger. When a typhoon comes, it usually brings strong winds and lots of rain. We should be careful when it comes. Don't go out or play on the beach.

If you live in Shanghai, Beijing or many other cities, you may see many orange bicycles on the streets these days.

These bikes are owned by a company called Mobike. You can order a bike through an app on your phone. When you find a bike, you just scan a QR code (扫描二维码) on the bike so that you can use it. You don't need to return the bike to a station—you can park it anywhere.

China was known as "the kingdom of bicycles" about 30 years ago. But more people choose to drive cars and take the subway these days. Bike rental (租赁的) services like Mobike are bringing bikes back. "Back then, I got the feeling that Chinese people were trying to be modern and push away the past. So they did not want to be linked with bicycles." said Ines Brunn, a German woman who runs a bike store in Beijing. "I do believe changes in people's tastes will shape new thinking about bikes."

Online rental services are making biking more convenient, but it's still not easy to ride bikes in Chinese cities. Cars often take up bicycle lanes (道路). Bikers have to ride next to cars in car lanes, which can be very dangerous.

Beijing plans to build over 3,200 km of new bike lanes. Drivers who drive in bike lanes will be punished. Traffic signs will be put up to better protect bikers.

Six hours of walking in space! On August 20, 2021, Chinese astronauts (宇航员) Liu Boming and Nie Haisheng did the second spacewalk of the ShenzhouxXII mission.

Spacewalks can be dangerous. There is no air in space, of course. And it's filled with harmful radiation. But the spacesuits can protect astronauts well.

A spacesuit is like a small space station. It has everything that astronauts need when they carry out a spacewalk. For example, China's Feitian spacesuits have six layers. The innermost layer collects astronauts' urine. Then there are four layers that help control the temperature and air pressure inside the suit. Spacesuits are filled with air, so they look like they're puffed up. The sixth layer is made of special fibers that protect astronauts from radiation.

The spacesuit has headphones and speakers for astronauts to communicate with others. There's also a mirror on the wrist. Astronauts can check their suits by looking at it.

The first Feitian suit was made in 2008. Zhai Zhigang wore it to carry out China's first spacewalk for about 19 minutes. The suits Chinese astronauts wear today are the second generation of Feitian. It can support walks as long as eight hours and can be used more often. The first generation could only be used five times within two years, while the second generation can be used 15 times within three years. Each suit costs around 30 million yuan and it takes four months to make just one!

Yu Chenrui, 29, is a maker of automata (机关人偶) in Chengdu, Sichuan. Thanks to him, wood not only comes alive, but also tells wonderful stories.

Yu first learned about automata at a show in 2015 when he studied at the Communication University of China in Beijing. As an art and design student, he began to learn the craft by himself in school.

When he finished school in 2016, Yu got a job at an advertising company in Beijing. At that time, he was not sure that he could make a living out of his hobby. But in 2018, Yu quit his job and returned to Chengdu to open his automata workshop. His hobby has become a career.

Yu has made lots of works in his workshop. At the 2021 World Wood Day, for example, Yu made Three Inputs of Photosynthesis (光合作用). In this woodwork, a naughty dog pees under a tree, while the tree is using the water, carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) in the air and sunshine to produce food and oxygen.

Yu knows that there are many more creative (创造性的) ideas waiting to be shown. "It feels quite good to pay attention to automata and I am still searching for myself. Automata interest people of all ages. Adults see them as art, while children see them as toys to play with." Yu said, smiling.

Once upon a time, there lived a farmer in a small town. He worked hard on his farm. One day, a strange-looking goose came to the farm. The farmer caught it and wanted to cook it for breakfast.

The next day, the farmer was surprised to find the goose had laid a golden egg. He was so happy that he danced cheerfully.

The farmer got a golden egg every morning. In the market, everybody loved to buy the golden egg. And he made a lot of money by selling them. The farmer and his wife thought there was no need to work on the farm, so they stopped farming.

The farmer and his wife were happy for a long time. But one day, the farmer thought to himself, "Why should we take just one egg a day? Why can't we take them all at once and make a lot of money?" The farmer told his wife his idea, and she foolishly agreed.

Then, the next day, as the goose laid its golden egg, the farmer was quick with a sharp knife. He killed the goose and cut its stomach open, in the hope of finding all its golden eggs. But, as he opened the stomach, he found nothing but guts and blood.

The farmer quickly realized his foolish mistake and cries over the dead goose. As the days went on, the farmer and his wife became poorer and poorer. How foolish they were!

Some British and American people like to invite friends for a meal at home. You should not be upset if your English friend don't invite you home. It doesn't mean they don't like you.

Dinner parties usually start between 7 and 8 p.m. and end at about 11 p.m. Ask your hosts what time you should arrive. It's polite(礼貌的)to bring flowers, chocolates or a bottle of wine as a gift. Usually the evening starts with drinks and snacks(零食). If you want to be polite, say how much you like the room, or the pictures on the wall. But remember it's not polite to ask how much things cost.

You'll probably start the meal with soup or something small, then you'll have meat or fish with vegetables and then dessert(甜食), followed by coffee. It's polite to finish everything on your plate and to take more if you want it.

All of these helped Penelope to make her film better. "My favorite First Nations family writer is Kirli Saunders. At the end of the talk, I got to stand up and spoke to her about making such a short film. She also encouraged (鼓励) me." said Penelope.

Her grandpa was the first Nations person to travel down to the Antarctic Circle (南极), studying animals and plants there.
