    One evening Bill doesn't come to the restaurant. Cara calls him, but he doesn't answer the phone. Cara calls the police. "Please go to Bill's house." Cara tells the police. Later the police call Cara at the restaurant. "Bill died in his sleep," the police tell her. Bill was 82 years old.

     A week later, a man with glasses comes to the restaurant. "I have something for Cara," the man says. The man gives Cara a check(支票) for $ 500,000. The money is from Bill.

    "This money is for me? From Bill?" Cara asks the man.

    "Yes," the man answers.

    "But…why?" Cara asks the man.

    "Bill liked you," the man says. "You were kind to him"

    Cold air, snow, shorter days. We are in winter now.

    Winter is the coldest season of the year. It comes between autumn and spring. For us, the winter months are usually November, December and January. But that is only because we live in the northern part of the Earth.

    In China, winter is the time between the beginning of winter, and the beginning of spring. But, this is the time that the southern part of the Earth, has its summer. Imagine when we are playing with snow, Australian kids are enjoying ice cream!

    Winter isn't always gray. It can also be bright. Here's how.

    Put on a holiday play and try acting. Ask your cousins or classmates to come to your house and make beautiful clothes and write a play. Act it out for your family.

    Play around. Go outside and enjoy yourself. Make a snowman with your friends. If you really have to stay indoors, give your room a clean and decorate (装饰) it. You'll find it a lot of fun.

    Something bad happened to Sam this morning. He fell over and broke his nose in the school hallway. When Sam looked up, he saw his friends. "Are you OK?" They asked him. But he didn't say anything to them. He stood up and ran to the classroom quickly. Sam put his schoolbag on his desk and went out to the school hospital. On his way back to the classroom he saw his friends again. They were laughing. Sam thought they were laughing at him, so he didn't talk to them for the rest of the morning.

    At lunchtime, Sam's friends came up to him and asked, "How is your nose?" "Fine!" Sam shouted. "I saw you laughing at me this morning!" "We didn't. We laughed just because Jenny told us a joke," his friends said. "Well, I'm sorry. Can you forgive me?" "Yes, of course. But next time you should ask us before you assume (假定) something." They looked at each other and laughed happily. They were still friends.

    Sports are all around us. We watch and read sports news. There are also sports bars, and even sports-only channels on TV. In many countries, athletes make millions of dollars every year. But why are sports (like soccer and baseball) so important?

    Sports bring people together. In 2006, our team qualified for（闯入……决赛） the 2006 World Cup for the first time. Everyone was in the streets together!

    Sports bring people together, but they divide(分开) them too. Fans of different teams fight all the time—they yell and hit each other. And here's another example: My brother plays high school baseball. Last week, his team played an important game. At the game, two parents fought about a call(判定). Come on ...baseball is only a game! Sports are so competitive these days. It's all about winning. Then the game isn't fun.

    Right now, some of the world's best soccer players are from Africa countries (Cameroon, Senegal, the Ivory Coast), and the 2010 World Cup games will be in South Africa.
