    Sometimes, I doubt (怀疑) if there is any love between my parents, They1say: "I love you." For them, it's really difficult to say. Every day they are2trying to make money. They don't act in the romantic (浪漫的) way that I read in books and I see on TV.

    The next spring, my father suddenly got very sick. My mother had to stay with him in the hospital for a month. After they12, she helped my father walk slowly down the road every day. To my surprise, Father was weak but really very13.

    "Dad, how are you feeling now?" I asked him one day.

    "Susan, don't14me," he said. "I just like walking with your mom."

    Once, I thought love meant flowers and gifts. Now, I know that love is the15that holds a family together.

    We all need friends. Friends bring us happiness and hope in our lives. But the ability to make friends changes (改变) from person t0 Person. To some people, making friends is easy, and to others, it's very difficult.

    Making friends is a skill, and the first thing is to know how to get along with (相处) others.

    If you have problems in making friends, maybe I can tell you how to do it.

    Believe that you are a good person and have something nice to share with others.

    Be humorous (幽默). Learn to laugh at yourself and your weakness (弱点). Remember to smile to others.

    Respect(尊重) the others. Everyone has his own idea. Learn to listen to others' ideas. Don't always try to make them accept yours.

    Be kind. If you are kind to others, they will usually be kind to you. There are hundreds of little things you can do to show kindness such as opening the door for someone.

    Don't complain (埋怨). Lear to accept what you can't change, and work hard to change what you can. No one wants to hear your complaining all the time.

    A girl went to her father to ask for his advice. She was having a hard time in life. It seemed that when one problem disappeared, another one appeared. It was terrible!

    Her father, a cook, took her into the kitchen. He poured water into three pans (平底锅) and put them on to boil (煮). After the water boiled, he put some carrots into the first pan, some eggs into the second pan and coffee into the last one.

    After 20 minutes, her father turned off the stove (炉子), took out the carrots and eggs and put them in a bowl. He poured the coffee into a cup.

    "Dear, what do you see?" he asked his daughter.

    "Carrots, eggs, and coffee", she said.

    "Touch the carrots," he told her. She did and felt that the carrots were soft (软的) . After that he asked her to take an egg and break it. She found that the egg was hard (硬的). At last, her father asked her to taste the coffee.

    "What's the meaning, Father?" she asked.

    "The strong and hard carrots became soft and weak after boiling. The fragile (脆弱) eggs became hard in the boiling water. The coffee beans were very special, but they changed the water around them." her father said, "As you can see, each thing reacted differently to the boiling water"

    "Who are you?" asked her father. "When you have problems, what will you do? Are you carrots, eggs, or coffee?"

Riverview School is a great school. There are many reasons why Riverview is great.

Riverview is a "green" school. That means it is good to the environment. First, the school shows a devotion (投入) to recycling (循环). Recycling is very important to them. All the kids learn about recycling in class. They have different bins for different things. One bin is for glass. One bin is for plastic(塑料). One bin is for paper. Second, they also have special lights. The lights can sense (感觉到) if people are in the room. When there is no one in the room, the lights tum off. That saves energy (节能) ! Saving energy is also good for the environment.

Riverview loves music. Music helps the kids learn! They use music in all of the classes. And they have a beautiful auditorium (礼堂). And the music teacher teaches there. She has many musical instruments (乐器). She has a piano. She has many drums. She has a guitar. And she has many other instruments. The students enjoy playing concerts! Their parents enjoy it too!

Riverview even started a farm. The farm is right next to the school. The farm has many cool things to study. It has chickens and cows. It has lots of trees. It has gardens for growing things. Classes sometimes go to the farm. They go to study the environment. Or they go to study different kinds of trees. Sometimes in PE classes, they go to have a walk there. These are just a few of the cool things classes do on the farm.

All of these things make Riverview a wonderful school. But there is one more reason why Riverview School is a great school. It has great kids!

Thursday, April 24th

    We arrived in the clean, lovely city of Yangzhou early in the morning. This is our first trip to China. We hear that the food in Yangzhou is really delicious. So we plan to try something special for dinner tonight. The hotel we are staying in is not expensive but very clean. We plan to stay here for a few days, visit some places in the city, and then travel to the Great Wall in the north.

Sunday, April 27th

    In Yangzhou, we visited the famous Slender West Lake which was crowded with visitors from all over the world, and bought a lot of toys for our friends outside the gate of the park. Everything is so colorful, and we took hundreds of photos there! Later today we will do the famous foot massage (按摩) and then leave for the Great Wall. We will take the night train to Beijing and stay in Beijing for two days, and then catch a bus to the Great Wall.

Wednesday, April 30th

    Our trip to the Great Wall was long and boring. We visited a small village in the mountains. The village people here love the quiet life. They are really kind. They always smile and say "Hello". Ralph and I can only speak a few words of Chinese, so smiling is the best way to show our kindness.

    A lot of people are crazy (疯狂) doing shopping through the Internet now. Why is it so popular? First, more and more people have their own computers and their computers can be joined with the Internet. Second, shopping through the Internet can save them some money and a lot of time. Third, they don't need to go to the shop themselves.

    They are worried about the safety of shopping online. Customers (顾客) can only see the pictures of products (商品) on the Internet. And they can't enjoy the fun of buying things in large supermarkets or some wonderful stores.

    But I think more and more people will like this new kind of shopping in the future.
