    Tomiko has a good time in New York. She is studying English in Columbia University. She will finish her classes in June. Then she will work in New York.

    Tomiko likes the beautiful buildings in New York. She wants to become an architect. Then she can build great buildings, too.

    Tomiko also likes the people in New York. They come from different countries and speak different languages. Tomiko has many friends from other countries.

    Best of all, Tomiko loves the museums in New York. She visits them almost every week. And she has visited many museums in the city.

    New Yorkis far from her home in Tokyo, but Tomiko is happy. She goes to classes every day.

    She visits her friends. She goes to see new places. And she watches many movies. She is very busy and happy in New York

    Eight-year-old Maya and her parents were on vacation. They were walking in the Appalachian Mountains. The Appalachians are a group of mountains in North America.

    Maya's family were walking on a long, long road. Its name is the Appalachian Trail. It starts in the US state (州) of Maine and ends in the state of Georgia. Maya and her family started near their home in Maryland. This was Maya's first time to leave her state. After walking for some days, the family decided to take rest (休息) in West Virginia.

    Every evening, Maya and her family would make a campfire. She loved to dance around it. She also enjoyed sleeping in a tent each night. Maya wanted to remember everything interesting on her vacation and she had her special way to do that-drawing. For example, when she came across new animal, she would take out her pencil quickly.

    Maya learned that she had to be quiet if she wanted the animals to stay. She also drew lot of flowers. Maya thought that flowers were much easier to draw, because they didn't run away!

    It is Sunday morning. I get up early, because today is a special day. It is my sister Joyce's 16th birthday. My father and brothers went to Paris to visit my grandparents last week.  Now Joyce is still sleeping on her bed. She stayed up late last night. My mother and I decide to do some things for her today.

    First, we are going to prepare a special breakfast for her.  She is going to cook bacon (培根) for Joyce. It's Joyce's favorite food. I think she will like it.

     I'm sure Joyce will be surprised and happy when she sees the cake with the words "Happy Birthday to Joyce" on it.

    Next, we are going to the supermarket to buy a present and some flowers for her.  So we will buy her a beautiful skirt.

    Finally, we will have a party for her tonight.  It's a pity that my father and brothers are not at home, but I believe we will enjoy ourselves today.
