What do I learn?

You'll learn the basics of film and sound recording, performing, and script­writing; and how to use sound effects, visual effects and music.

You'll also learn about the work of a director, before editing your own film.

No, our fantastic trained instructors and film industry experts will guide you through the whole process, and give you tips from the professionals.

Do I need any specialist equipment?

No, we'll provide all the equipment, from top digital video cameras and editing equipment, to costumes and make­up. Just bring your imagination!

Another man­made wonder of the US was built long before the nation was established. About 900 years ago, the Ancestral Puebloan people built villages high in the walls of canyons (大峡谷) in Colorado, where 600 cliff dwellings are now part of the Mesa Verde National Park.

Visitors can stand at the top and look into the dwellings almost hidden in openings of the rock walls. The Puebloan people cut small steps into the rock, which connected buildings containing hundreds of rooms.

The rock walls have protected the buildings from severe weather in the area; therefore, they remain mostly unchanged in the hundreds of years since they were built.

Our final man­made wonder is in the northwestern city of Seattle, Washington. The Space Needle was built as the central structure for the 1962 World's Fair.

The 184­meter­tall structure was designed by Edward Carlson, which has a wide base on the ground, with its middle narrow and a large ring­like structure on top. The structure was meant to look like a "flying saucer", a vehicle that was popular in science fiction space travel stories. The saucer includes an observation area and eating place. The restaurant slowly turns to provide visitors with a 360 degree view of Seattle.

The Space Needle was not very costly, and was designed and completed in about a year and opened on the first day of the World's Fair.

Today, the Space Needle is the most popular place for visitors to Seattle. And it remains the internationally known symbol of the city.

I have been very lucky to have won the Nobel Prize twice. It is, of course, very exciting to have such an important recognition of my work, but the real pleasure was in the work itself. Scientific research is like an exploration of a voyage of discovery. You are continually trying out new things that have not been done before. Many of them will lead nowhere and you have to try something different, but sometimes an experiment does work and tells you something new and that is really exciting. However small the new finding may be, it is great to think" I am the only person who knows this" and then you will have the fun of thinking what this finding will lead to and deciding what will be the next experiment. One of the best things about scientific research is that you are always doing something different and it is never boring. There are good times when things go well and bad times when they don't. Some people get discouraged at the difficult times but when I have a failure, my policy has always been not to worry but to start planning the next experiment, which is always fun.

It is very exciting to make a new discovery. Some people will do the strangest things for this excitement, such as going round the world in a balloon or walking to the North Pole. There are not many new places to explore but there is a lot of new information to be discovered in science and a journey into this unknown area can be much more worthwhile and just as exciting.

I am sometimes asked, "What do you have to do to win a Nobel Prize? "My answer is: "I don't know. I have never tried. "But I know of one way not to win one. There are some people whose main reason for doing science is to win prizes and they are always thinking about how to do it. Such people don't succeed. To do good science you must be interested in it and enjoy doing experiments and thinking out problems. And, of course, you must be prepared to work hard and not to be too discouraged by failure.

The Internet has opened a new world of opportunity for even the smallest home­based business owner. There are a great number of self­made millionaires (百万富翁) that have achieved their success on the Internet. Do you want to know their secrets of being successful?

If a company doesn't care enough about its own domain name (域名), customers may not feel comfortable when doing business. A company with its own domain name and a professional­looking website will have a much higher rate of success.

A website can present both you and your business directly. Creating a professional website takes a lot of time and efforts, as there are many more things to think about than the website's design. You must give your visitors a reason to visit and continue to visit your website in the future; just provide your visitors with fresh contents.

Your words are the foundation (基础) of your business. Your product, website and marketing strategies all depend on your words. You must learn how to write persuasive (有说服力的) words especially for your customers. You must feel your customers' needs and write with passion, excitement and consideration.

As an Internet business owner, it is your personal responsibility to make sure that your visitors feel very comfortable with you and your website. In order to gain confidence and your visitor's trust, you first have to build your credibility (信誉).

Your attitude is the most important factor in determining your success. You must think positively and be willing to deal with any difficulties that come along. All you must do is to believe that you can do whatever you put your mind to.

Last week, we talked about how to start and organize your English Club. This week, we share ideas for effective and fun activities to do with your English Club.

Warm­up activities are good ways to start any club meeting.  Here are a few warm­up activities that can be used with any age or skill level.

The first is called Two Truths and a Lie. This activity can be done in pairs, small groups, or the whole English club.  Two of the facts are true, and one is a lie. They tell the group the three facts, and the group must decide which one is the lie. Each participant takes a turn with this activity.

 For this activity, tell everyone to think of a person, place or thing and write it down on a piece of paper. Collect the pieces of paper and mix them around in a big bowl. Then, divide the club into two teams. Each team then takes turns having one person go to the front of the room to take a piece of paper.  As soon as a team member correctly guesses the word, the person then selects another word from the bowl. Each team has 30 seconds to guess as many words as possible.

Finally, for groups that do not like activities, you can simply start a club meeting with a warm­up discussion question, or by sharing a word or quote of the day.

There are hundreds of possibilities for English club activities.  The important thing to remember is to keep things fun and keep your club members motivated.

Afraid to have a start, I was walking slowly into my first school in America. I had 1 a long way from India in order to join parents. They had been here for three years, and hoped America would help my future. My father decided that I would go to school here, so I found a local high school in my new town.

With 2 on one hand and fear on the other, I arrived at the classroom. Everyone's eyes were on me as I entered the classroom. Without paying attention to them, I went straight to the 3 and asked if it was the right class. With a 4 voice, he answered. "Yes." His voice comforted me a little. He gave me a piece of 5 called" course requirements", which I would never get in India. Then he asked me to choose where I would sit. I chose the 6 closest to the door instead of the corner where all of the boys were sitting. I didn't 7 want to pick a seat. In India, the teacher 8 seats, so I never needed to worry about that. I spent the rest of the class taking notes from the picture produced by the overhead projector(投影仪).

9 it was my first day, I was confused about which hallway(走廊) to use, but I 10 to get to my classes without asking anyone. I was very confused about when I would have 11. It was noon when I went to my next class and the bell rang as I entered. I went through the normal process of asking the teacher if I was in the right class. Feeling 12, she said, "That is the lunch bell." I felt a little awkward. Without another word, I headed for the cafeteria(食堂).

At the end of the day, I was on my way to the bus stop. I realized that all the 13 was like the difficulty I had to 14 to reach my goal. I 15 my bus and sat down inside happily. I said to myself: Today isn't so bad.

As a child, I made the most important decision of my life. I decided there was no reason that my  (disable) would prevent me from realizing my dreams or stop me from being  (true) happy with my life. I  (place) in a special school, together with children  suffered from different diseases. However, I studied hard and finally entered an ordinary school with ordinary kids,  (try) to enjoy my life like any other kids  my age.

 wasn't easy, but I finally succeeded and proved that there was no goal that I couldn't achieve. Over and over again, I overcame difficulties and  (understand) that there was no limit to the human spirit.

Today, I am the owner of a  (success) business. I have a lot of true friends. I travel around the world and teach people  (realize) their own dreams. My belief in my life is where there is a will, there is a way.

That first afternoon, when I came downstairs from my classroom and put my hand in my mailbox, I got a sinking feeling in my stomach. The check I expected and badly needed wasn't there.

When I asked the school secretary what happened, she informed me that the teachers weren't paid until the end of the month. This was a problem. I had only four dollars left, and the end of the month was a whole month away.

My first teaching experience had been in a small school in Missouri, where the teachers always received the first month's check the first day of school. Now, here in the big St. Louis Public School System, I found things worked differently.

What to do? I had come into St. Louis two weeks before as required for all new teachers to prepare their lessons and had spent my little reserve. Now with the four dollars I couldn't even pay for my cheap motel room that night, much less buy dinner and gasoline.

I had my trumpet(小号) in the car, as I played the trumpet and a little piano. So I did something most musicians have done at one time or another. I decided to pawn(典当) my trumpet.

I drove downtown to an unpleasant area where the pawn shops and cheap bars were. I pawned my trumpet for fifteen dollars, and now I had enough money to get through the night and the next day of school, but then what?

There was a little bar nearby. I walked in and ordered a thirty­cent beer. I was the only customer. I sat there sipping my beer and trying to think my way out of this problem.

"You look like you lost your last friend, Son, "said the owner of the bar. "What's the matter？"

His name was Charlie, and he was a pleasant man about 60, which seemed quite old to me at the time. I was about 24. I told him what had happened and about pawning my trumpet. Then I stared at the old piano I had seen as I came in the door.
