    Maupassant(莫泊桑) was one of the well-known writers of short in the nineteenth century in France. His novels made readers excited and enjoyable.

    During his school days, he decided to become a writer. Then he began to write something. Because of the Franco-Prussian War(普法战争), he had to stop .After the war, he went to Paris to look for a job, where he met some great writers and learned a lot from them.

    Working as a clerk(职员), Maupassant was too busy and he had no time to more material(素材) for his story. And he found it to finish his dream. So he left his office to spend all his time on his interest. At the age of thirty－four, he became quite famous.

    Last month, I went to London with my mum and dad. Firstly, I had a picture in my head of Big Ben, cute taxis, the River Thames and so on.

    London is as good as I know it! As soon as I got off the train into St. Pancras Station, I found I was in heaven. You can see lots of people from every culture. The taxi drivers spoke in this city's English, which was almost like another language. And there were many "old" London taxis, just like the ones you see in the films.

    I found the people to be really friendly, for the most part. And the city was clean and exciting. I saw a show and it was popular in the country. I took many pictures of the interesting places. Big Ben sat tall over the River Thames, just as I saw in all the pictures and films. London is truly one of the most magical(神奇的)cities in the world.

    The students' life today is very busy. They are under pressure(压力)every day. They need a break from it .Parents ask children to do something else.let them relax in front of the TV. A hobby is the (good)answer.

    There are many different kinds of hobbies. Chess is a good example. It is a very(enjoy)game and it also helps children develop their thinking skills.

    (collect)something is also a good hobby for children. A child can collect almost anything. Collecting can be interesting and fun. They teach children a lot. For example，gardening is a useful hobby it is a physical activity and it also (teach)children about nature. Children may become experts in something if they (real)love their hobbies.

    Children will also learn to become organized. Hobbies will also teach children a lot about responsibility(责任).

    Kelly's favourite subject is PE But she had a hard time in PE classes. She was not good at jumping very far, she had trouble throwing a ball, and she couldn't run really fast. Sometimes, some kids laughed at her .So why does Kelly love PE class?

    The reason is that her teacher Mr Burns always tells her to do her best. Though she only ran for a few minutes, Mr Burns said, "Good job! Next time you will be able to go a little longer."Mr Burns even put a small box on the floor, so Kelly would be able to practise jumping over it.

    That night when Kelly finished dinner, she put three boxes and began practising jumping over them. She made it! Kelly thought to herself, "Tomorrow I will be able to jump over those boxes in the PE class."

    There was a relay race(接力赛)on Tuesday. Kelly was afraid that she would not be able to go very far. When Kelly ran, she heard the kids shouting, "Go Kelly! You can do it!" That was all she needed to hear. Kelly ran fast. She finished first! The kids cheered for her. Kelly felt so good. "Thank you, Mr Burns, "said Kelly." Kelly, you ran in the race, not me." "Yes, but you always said I could do it."

How do students get to school?

    How do the students in our school get to school every day? Here is the result.

    Jimmy is a very kind young man. He works in a big supermarket. His workmates like him very much. Last month Jimmy caught a bad cold, and he stayed in bed for about two weeks. But after he got well, something happened-he couldn't stop winking(眨眼) . When he stayed at home, he was all right as usual. But if he went out, he couldn't stop his eyes from winking.

    Jimmy went to work the next morning. On the way he met a policeman and winked at him. The policeman felt surprised but said nothing. Then he met an old man and winked at him. The old man thought he must be mad. But still he didn't say a word.

    Real trouble started when he met women. First he met a young lady. He winked at her. The woman's face turned red, and ran away as fast as she could. And then he met an old woman who carried a walking stick. Jimmy winked at her. She looked closely at him. Jimmy winked again.

    Without saying a word, she hit Jimmy on the head with her walking stick. "Take that!" she cried out. "This is a lesson(教训) for you."

Poor Jimmy! How could he explain it? He ran away quickly. From then on, he always wears a pair of dark glasses when he goes out.
